As she left them downstairs to talk about their own matters, she entered a room on the second floor that had her name on it— like a nameplate one would have to indicate room ownership.
The room was plain— like the definition of average.
If it wasn't for the misplaced furniture and clear attempts to make the room seem like a young girl's room she would've suspected it to be something that came with the house.
The size was pretty good— the house was rather big after all— with white walls that lacked any decoration to it. To the right side of the room was a large bed with grey sheets over it, both sides of the bed having a small desk.
There was a desk on the other side of the room right next to a bookshelf that had decorative objects and even a few common books.
Again— it was normal in every way.
So she ignored the room and instead sat on the bed, focusing on the conversation they were having downstairs.
"We are leaving her in your care, we have to report back. I am not sure what they plan to do with her but we can assume they are going to train her as a mutant to help them."
Spoke Miguel to the two that were acting as her parents for this case.
"Is that why they made her age 15 even though she looked much longer than that— when I saw her even I could tell she's around 10 or 12 years old at the most."
The one that replied was Roxy, the one that would be playing her mother in this act. Clearly understanding why the girl's false papers now had her at such an older age.
"It makes it easier for her to fit some of our programs without raising any eyebrows, and because she will come of age faster on papers it'll make turning her into an agent easier."
Replied the male, Stephan with a nod of understanding.
"Anyways, we are going to head out now. Remember to keep an eye on her and to make sure nothing unexpected happens, with the recent mutant activities taking place all around, especially this group kidnapping mutants, we don't want anything happening."
"Understood."
Both the agents replied at the same time as they nodded— they have been trained for this and knew better than to go against an order or to speak back.
With that conversation over, Miguel and Fea left, leaving the two of them alone to sort things out.
Hearing this entire conversation the girl came to an understanding— it seems mutant activity has been on a raise lately which made sense.
If she remembered currently, this was around the time when a lot of mutants were born or growing into power— even the XMen came into being around this time.
There were also the Morlocks, or whatever they were called that lived under New York, with a large part of their group also living under Manhatten.
They would be the perfect target for her because they are primarily made up of people that are weak— without any very useful individually.
If she could find them and pick them off one by one she could gain herself some mutant abilities that she was sure she could fuse and make useful to herself.
For that she didn't mind using some mass to produce new worker units here that would do the searching for her— after all, she couldn't roam around as easily as before.
With that idea in mind, she left her room and made her way downstairs, along the way she bumped into her new caregivers and they had a short conversation.
"Hi, we know this is going to be a bit complicated for you to get used to, but we would like to make you feel as safe here as we can, this is your new home after all. So do not hesitate to ask for anything."
Spoke Roxy with a warm smile on her face that might've fooled a normal child in her situation— but she knew there were other intentions behind such a smile.
She didn't mind though and just smiled back, nodding her head as she spoke.
"Ok— can I go look around the area?"
She asked with a curious gaze, playing along with this act they wished to put on.
"Of course, but don't go too far from the house, ok?"
Naturally, they weren't going to keep her locked in the house the entire time— that would make her start to hate them or draw a distance from them which they didn't want.
But they also couldn't allow her to move around too freely right now with the group that was supposedly after her. As such, just around the house wasn't too bad.
They had cameras around after all.
She nodded her head and walked passed Roxy as she headed out the back door into their backyard— a place covered with well-kept grass and even a tall tree casting a vast shade.
As she walked out she glanced around, and thanks to her enhanced eyesight she could instantly spot the camera in a few semi-hidden corners around the house— she had even spotted a few well-placed ones inside.
The cameras were annoying, but they didn't matter since she could make the workers even with them there.
Walking over to the tall tree she sat down behind it, hiding from the camera slightly by pretending she was enjoying the shade.
Placing her hand against the ground she used the mass in her body— willing it to her command— and turning it into worker units.
She used some of the new information she had gotten from eating so many animals to make them better than the ones from the past.
Borrowing skills, sharp teeth, hard skin, and many more traits that would make digging around easier. It would cost her a lot of mass to do everything she wanted but she had a lot so it wasn't a problem.
The form she decided to make this time was similar to a worm, being around the size of a human body in thickness and around 4 feet in length.
They had a large mouth at the front of their body with layers of sharp teeth in it. Being their main means of digging the teeth were sharp enough to grind up stone with ease.
Thankfully she made them take this form directly underground so they weren't seen by the camera.
She made a total of 5 and just making them cost her around 3000 mass— after all, she had to give each the same capabilities.
But it was worth it because the second she ordered them to start moving their digging capabilities were revealed— instantly digging deep into the ground in a matter of seconds.
Their digging speed was so fast that it even surprised her somewhat— and she made them. But it was a pleasant surprise as it meant finding the mutants she was looking for much faster.
With that out of the way, she sat there for a few more minutes, trying to avoid looking suspicious to the camera before she eventually grew bored and stood up, walking back inside.
Inside her caregivers were doing their own things but when they saw her they stopped and called her over.
"Lily, please come for a second we need to talk to you."
Well, it seemed they had something to speak to her about— she didn't pay any mind to it and walked over to the living room where they were sitting.
Her eyes gazed across the two of them as they sat beside each other, looking over at her. At times like these you would think they were just a normal couple of parents that wished to speak to their child.
But they weren't.
"Lily please have a seat."
Roxy said with a soft smile as she motioned towards the other couch.
She did as they asked and took a seat, very curious as to where this was going as she had just arrived there. They couldn't already be making their move, could they?
No that would be foolish— unless they were desperate.
"Lily we know you have been through a lot, and while we would like you to experience the same things normal kids your age would, we can't do that right now due to the situation."
A situation that didn't actually exist and that she made up— with this thought in her mind she listened to what Roxy was saying.
"As such, we think it would be best for you to be homeschooled."
'So that's how they were going to do it.'
She thought in her mind with an inner chuckle. She obviously knew what they were planning— they were going to use this chance to indoctrinate their own ideas into her mind.
After all, they wanted a useful mutant soldier and starting to train her from a young age would be the best thing they could do.
She decided to play along since getting some knowledge about this world wouldn't be too bad— and if she rejected the idea they might find other means to push it.
So, with a fake look of reluctance on her face, she agreed.
"Ok."
Was all she said— which made them quite pleased.
"Good, don't worry we will give you this week to settle down and lessons will start next week. Also, I'm sure you want some things of your own to decorate your room and clothing, so why don't we go shopping tomorrow?"
That would be convenient as it would allow her to get a layout of the areas above ground since her worms couldn't do so. As such, she nodded her head once more.
"Ok."
The caregivers didn't do much about her anti-social behavior as it was expected from a girl in her situation— in reality, she just didn't feel the need to speak too much.
With that out of the way they allowed her to return to her room.
As she returned to her room she focused on the actions of her workers so far— having already dug very far in all directions. They had split up because that would cast the widest net to find what she was looking for.
And it seems she had came upon just that— with one of her worms having found what seemed like a large underground tunnel system.
Not some small tunnel system made by animals or a subway of the sort— no it was a large system of tunnels that seemed to be from a long time ago.
Maybe it had been here for ages— but it showed little sign of being old, in fact, it seemed to be kept well.
This was just what she was looking for.
She knew the Morlocks lived under the city and would often move around using the tunnel systems under the city— so how could such a big system go unfound by her workers if they just dig around a lot?
The speed at which she found it was unexpected— but it made things so much easier.
She just had one problem now— finding and eating Morlocks.
If she wasn't worried that the information in their bodies would go to waste and she wouldn't gain the mutant ability she would've just had her workers deal with it— but the Morlocks were already weak mutants.
If she didn't eat them herself she wouldn't gain anything useful— aside from mass and a little bit of their information.
But she wanted much more than just a little, she wanted everything they had to offer.
Their deaths and body would be her growth— so she needed to find a way to get out of there.
'What if I make a worker that looks like me?'
It wasn't impossible, but it would take quite a bit of mass to do so— and she didn't have that much mass right now.
She was quite disappointed that she no longer gained mass from just eating dirt and stone but it seemed that the stronger her body become the less mass certain things would give her.
That was understandable— after all once you became dense, less dense things affected you less.
She had two options right now before her.
Spend a large portion of her mass she currently had to make a unit that looked like her.
Or use the mass to improve herself and wait for a chance to come in the future where she could slip out undetected.
