Chapter 16: Chapter 16 - Acting 101

She had to look around for a while because of how weird this small town was shaped, but eventually, she found a rather small and run-down police station and began her plan.

Stumbling to the door of the police station she pushed open the door and collapsed to the floor with a loud thud— or rather pretended to collapse to the floor.

Drawing the attention of the lazy and tired receptionist that had nothing to do— after all, who would commit a crime in such a small town?

Unfortunately for her that would be changing very soon due to one single girl.

Nonetheless, when she saw the girl covered in blood, dirt, and wounds suddenly fall in front of the door her tired appearance instantly disappeared and she stood up— dashing to the door.

"Hey hey, can you hear me?"

She said as she knelt next to the girl and called out to her, using her fingers she checked for a pulse.

Sighing a breath of relief when she felt that the girl still had one— meaning she wasn't dead.

But the girl was badly injured and seemed to be losing a lot of blood, she had to get help. So she temporarily left the girl on the ground and ran over to the counter, pressing the alert button to call the sheriff.

She also called the local doctor since their small town didn't have a very big hospital— only having a few doctors that worked in it due to their low population.

It took a while— around 20 minutes due to how late at night it was— but they were able to reach on time and get the girl to a more stable environment, with the doctor patching up her wounds.

The sheriff, a man that seemed to be in his early or late 30s spoke to the receptionist, trying to figure out how this random girl could just stumble into their station.

"So you're saying she was alone? No one with her or anyone around?"

He questioned in a tired tone— having woken up in the middle of the night for this case.

"Yes Sir, after calling for backup I made sure to check the area around the station and found no one nearby— she just stumbled in on her own."

Hearing the reply from the girl he couldn't help but sigh— this was a tricky case given how young the girl looked, and their location.

A small town like this meant he knew almost everyone in it— and he didn't know her— meaning she wasn't from this town.

So how did she get here was the question? One that he hoped she would be able to help him answer when she woke up.

The very subject of this thought wasn't even asleep, to begin with— she had simply been pretending to be in an unconscious state.

She was just waiting for the right time to wake up— one she waited a few hours for.

Finally deciding to open her eyes after a few hours of pretending to be asleep, she was met with a white ceiling and room around her.

She slowly rose her body up on the bed drawing the attention of one of the nurses that were meant to monitor her— they had the time to spare since they didn't have many patients in such a small place.

Once they noticed she was awake they went to alert the doctor and the Sherif, leaving the room after checking on her.

'It seems that I was able to fool them with the information I gained from consuming the man.'

She thought to herself as she sat on the bed waiting for the Sherif to reach. Her body wasn't even injured in the slightest— to her at least— she just made it look so on the outside.

So she felt no bother by it.

The Sherif reached rather quickly since he had to be on call for this messy situation. If word was to spread that a young girl was found inside the station of such a small town it would cause a lot of unnecessary drama and mess.

Especially with the way the world was currently going with all the mutants and such popping up out of nowhere.

Entering the room the girl was in, his eyes met with hers, and for a split second, he swore he saw something different.

The eyes of a creature waiting to devour him whole— not something a small child could have.

Cold sweat built up on his back instantly at the sight— but soon he snapped out of it and realized it was just a normal child. Perhaps he was seeing things?

"Hello, I am the sheriff of this town, can you understand me?"

He spoke easy to the girl trying not to scare her since he didn't know the situation she had been in— the girl simply listened along without paying much attention in her mind.

She nodded her head in response to him, choosing not to seem too open or friendly just yet since it would aid her plans to play as a victim of things.

Good, she could understand him— the man thought to himself as he played into the palm of her hands and questioned further.

"Can you tell me your name? Or where you're from?"

His questions were simple but they would help him find her identity hopefully.

He had run her prints and looks through the system while she was out, but he found no matches in the database, making it quite hard to figure out who she was.

Chapter 17: Chapter 17 - Acting 101 2

"I don't remember."

She finally decided to speak, her dry and rough voice working perfectly well to match her appearance of someone that had been through a terrible situation.

Answering his question she decided to go the amnesia route. It was the best route to go with since it helped avoid giving away the fact that she didn't have a past— while still having her act however she wanted.

Her reply left the man stumped, he was really hoping she would be able to give her a name at least because then they could find some relatives or something faster— but she couldn't.

He didn't want to draw out this complicated case because he would cause his little town— and himself— to be involved in a mess.

"What can you remember?"

He asked trying to get any sort of information from her— he hoped to at least understand how she stumbled into the station, let alone the town since she wasn't from here.

She had already come up with an idea of how she would get by his line of questions while she was pretending to be asleep— she would just be as vague as she could be while still giving some roundabout hints.

"I don't remember much. Just, a dark room, some men."

She said as she gazed down, playing the part of a traumatized girl that was trying her best to remember the cause of her trauma, to begin with.

"They spoke differently but I can't remember what they said. I ran away when they were taking me somewhere— I ran fast."

She muttered as tears began to roll down her eyes— she was such a good actor she even amazed herself.

"I remember just running, and running until I couldn't run anymore."

She said as tears ran down her face like a broken waterfall— her words stopping as she was too focused on crying.

It seemed her acting was so good it made even the man believe her— who wouldn't after all? He couldn't help but pity her, stopping his line of questioning in order to let her rest.

"Get some rest, you don't have to force yourself."

He said as he sighed and stood up— patting her on the head as he headed towards the door.

He planned to try and sort out the information he had gained from her so far than figure out how to deal with the girl tomorrow.

She couldn't stay in the hospital forever after all.

Once the man she couldn't help but hide a smile under her hand as she laid back down and thought about what has happened so far.

Things have been going smooth— oddly so— and she just hoped it would keep going this way otherwise she would have to take drastic measures.

Her plan wasn't to stay in this small town which was why she made it sound like she was being trafficked— such a matter would be outside of the hands of a small town like this and they would need to get a bigger station involved.

Maybe even a bigger organization.

When that happens they would have to move her from this town to a place where she could be kept safe and be monitored in case anyone tried to find and silence her.

Granted no one was going to do that— but they didn't know that.

Her only concern would be if a mutant with some sort of ability to reveal the truth were to be among the people that come— as they would possibly reveal the words she says as false or even the way she looked as false.

Yes— looked.

Before stumbling into the station she had obviously altered her looks a little, shortening her long hair and changing it to a dark color— while also changing her eyes to a brownish hue.

Doing this was easy with her ability to alter and even replicated atomic structure— she just slightest made some changes to her own.

It was temporary though— as it wasn't her true form— but it would last much longer than she needed it to so there wasn't anything to worry about.

She just hoped no mutant showed up.

But the likelihood of that wasn't very high, to begin with so she didn't worry.

Instead— she drifted off to sleep peacefully as she finally had a bed to lie down on.

Unknown to her— after the man had left the hospital he went and made a report on his work computer, a report which was picked up by the FBI as it sounded very similar to a case they were currently working on.

And they decided to send some ground units to check out the situation and see if it was related or not— if it was they would properly get involved and take action to secure the girl.
