Chapter 59: When the forest attacks

As the others continued to quickly get prepared for the coming conflict Valentina had already rushed out of the carriage door. What they were dealing with was still a total unknown but based on how fast scouts were dying, it couldn't be good.

The moment she began to look around, some things were clear. The sun was already beginning to set and the army only had about ten more minutes of marching to go until they would reach the predetermined campsite. Coincidentally, that directly overlapped with where the first scout died which wasn't a great sign.

The other thing to take note of was the local terrain. About two thirds of the grand duchy consisted of forest of some kind and here was no exception. The road they were taking was one of the main passages to the west and so it was a wide and well worn dirt road, but the signs of civilization quickly faded once you got to the edge.
