Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Pleas

In the darkness, it feels like hours. I’m eventually able to stand up, searching the small room with my hands. I feel metal devices that I can’t picture in my mind, wooden shelves, and cloth bags filled with something heavy.

I try my hand at opening the door, but it’s shut tight. When I try to ram into it with my shoulder, there’s a loud knocking from outside and shouting from one of the guards to stop. I decide to preserve my life and sit on the cool ground instead.

Before long, the door opens, shining blinding light across me. I squint against it, trying to cover my face with my arm, but am unceremoniously yanked to my feet. Two guards drag me out of the shed and into the setting daylight, holding me up before the Commander.

The cruel man sneers at me, lifting my chin up. “So, you truly are just a human?” he asks.

I jerk my head away from his grasp and glare, keeping my mouth shut tight. He glowers and folds his arms across his chest.
