Chapter 36: Spider-Man

Rose knocked on the metal door to Jason's workshop. The young lady waited patiently but even after 2 minutes, there was no response. Sighing to herself, Rose put her right up to the scanner which caused the door to open.

Rose walked into the room and saw that it was a mess. The floor was covered in countless parts to which Rose couldn't even tell what they belonged. The only clean parts of the workshop were the shelves with all the finished products on them.

Jason was in the middle of the room with earplugs in, with something small in his hands. Rose walked up behind him to get a closer view of what he was working on.

'Ah. The new generator he was working on. The Arc Reactor or whatever he called it.'

Jason wanted to create smaller generators that could survive longer and provide more energy than the ones he currently had.

Rose was caught off guard when Jason looked up and grabbed the back of her head with a hand. He then pulled her face closer to his until their lips met.

'Spider-Man kiss!' Jason thought in his mind

Jason held her there for several seconds before he released the beauty. Rose stood up like nothing unexpected happened. She had learned that Jason was very affectionate when they officially started going out a couple months prior.

"How's it coming along?" Rose asked about the Arc Reactor

"Frustrating. I wanted to use this to power my first generation of androids but I will have to put it on hold for now."

"Hmm. Too bad. Have you been keeping up with the Goufs' progress?"

"Yep. The rest of the borgs seem stable for now. I'm having them run through a series of tests so they can get used to their new bodies."

Jason had designed his own borgs instead of directly using the ones from the system. Jason was planning to give out system items from then on while letting the Edgerunners keep his custom products. The Gouf would be the first generation of his borgs.

Designed after their namesake, the Gouf Custom, Jason created durable borg bodies that could withstand heavy punishment and dish it back out.

"That's great. Cause we just got a new job."

Rose then explained to Jason what happened at both meetings. When she finished, Jason didn't really have anything to say about the first. It was free money and he didn't have to put out any other cyberware or get his ripperdocs to put them into others.

As for the second meeting... Jason couldn't keep the smile from spreading across his face.

"Finally. I've been looking forward to some action," Jason complained after being trapped in the Kujira and meetings for so long. "Who are we sending in?"

Rose rolled her eyes. She already knew that Jason would want to be a part of this.

"We plan on sending in two groups. Our main group will be led by Myself, you, and Harley and will consist of the Goufs. We will be the ones that work closely with Queen Bee's forces. We will focus on taking out the main army of The Reach.

The Special Operations team is going to focus on taking out the Beetles alongside whoever the Legion of Doom sends. I'm going to send Ivy with them since she and Knockout are our two most powerful members and we need to send a message.

The entire conflict will be live-streamed on our private site. We have already set it so that only those with implants can view the uncensored version if they want to. The rest will only be able to see the censored stuff."

Rose had already planned out how the entire operation would proceed. She wanted to use the war to build up even more hype around their group by getting others interested in the Goufs and their special operations teams. These would be the stars and Rose wanted to make sure that they got their spotlight.

They had already shown the benefits of cybernetics in civilian life but now they needed to show off the greatest military potential of them. And the war with the Reach would be the best time to do that.

"Sounds good with me," Jason accepted her plans without complaint. She was in charge of military operations so this was all her domain anyway. As long as she wasn't doing something that would bring Edgerunners to ruin, Jason would allow her to command as she pleased.

Rose nodded and began to walk away to go and finalize the plans as well as oversee the Goufs and make sure that all the necessary equipment was prepared for them.

"Wait," Jason stopped Rose before she left. "Did any of the other Light members say anything about the scarabs?"

"Nope. Most likely going to end up being the one who kills the owner gets them."

"Hmm. So we are in competition with Lex and Queen Bee then. This is definitely going to be fun."

Jason was always up for a challenge. Especially against those with minds like Lex or Queen Bee. Both of them were strategic and political geniuses that knew the value of the scarabs and would definitely put up a good fight to claim them for themselves, even if they knew that Jason would gain the most benefits from them.

Rose left Jason alone who immediately tossed the arc reactor he was working on away to dig into another pile of parts in order to start on his next project. If he was going to take down the Beetle Brothers, Jason needed to make sure he carried the right weapons with him.
