Chapter 61: Old Friend, New Friend

Varya knew she was being irrational, but her entire being was screaming at her that the guard was her old friend.

As she made her way down the halls and up an elevator to get back to her room, she protectively crossed her arms over her chest and kept her head down.

There were so many reasons the guard couldn't be Kallo.

When she was finally at her front door, she shakily raised her arm so that the panel could verify her identity. She felt there was something deeply wrong with her to act this way over something so impossible.

The door slid shut behind her once she was finally in the room, and she walked forward, unbuttoning her lab coat so she could discard it on the floor.

Her breathing was erratic, and her heart was racing. She felt like she was going to have a panic attack if she didn't calm down.

She removed her boots and climbed into her neatly made bed where she pulled Basileus's blanket up to her chin and took a deep breath. This was her only safe place anymore.
