I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 77. Let's See Who Will Die Tonight?

---

Why are you always at the scene whenever a murder happens?

Why have all traces of longing been erased? Necromancer, always present at the scene?

If you firmly believe you're not the culprit, why did you sneak back here?

I bet you're the culprit!

This triple attack from a commoner's perspective, with an extra blow, is often the kind of logic that leads to wrongful convictions. However, in most cases, it's also how the case gets closed.

Standing with arms crossed, Cyd silently observed Waletta Codrington, the person sent by the Codrington family, furiously accusing Wills as if he were the murderer of her father. Meanwhile, poor Wills, incapable of anything but pleading "believe me," failed to explain himself.

Their logic wasn't flawed, but the problem lay with Waletta, who was single-handedly convicting Wills, and the woman smiling softly beside her, whom El-Melloi II referred to as Hishiri Adashino.

One person wanted to take over the workshop for the Codrington family, and the other was from the Department of Policies. Judging by their demeanor, they seemed intent on convicting Wills and confiscating the workshop.

They couldn't be considered impartial judges.

"Detective, please help me!" Unable to convince Waletta, Wills started crawling towards Cyd.

As for why he was crawling…

Because he had just been bound by Hishiri Adashino.

"Don't worry, I believe you," Cyd bent down to help Wills up, and with a quick swipe of his slender fingers, the white cloth binding Wills, like shackles, slid off his body.

Hishiri Adashino's calm expression faltered.

El-Melloi II sighed while holding his head, and though Reines was weak from her Mystic Eyes, she managed to curl her lips into a mischievous smile. Sisigou looked indifferent, while Gray, confused by their varied reactions, glanced around.

"Detective!"

"And this is…?" Hishiri Adashino looked towards El-Melloi II.

"My hired detective," El-Melloi rubbed his nose. "He deduced that you would come to this mansion to arrest Wills, which is why we came through the tomb—to find evidence to clear his name."

"This is common sense, my friend," Cyd said with a slight smile, crossing his fingers in front of his face. "But this is the world of Magecraft. Please think outside of logic while also using it."

"Interesting. I'll just wait a little longer then," Hishiri Adashino chuckled softly before leaving the room, with Waletta reluctantly glaring at Wills before following her out.

"That's a relief…" Wills exhaled in relief.

"Your name isn't cleared yet," El-Melloi II rubbed his shoulder. "But as long as we have time, we can clear it."

"We'll have to wait until tomorrow. Young master, is the bathhouse here available?" Sisigou brushed off the dust on his pants. "There's been so much going on lately."

"Yes, it is," Wills scratched the back of his head. "But before that, Your Lordship, I have one more request for you."

"Hmm? The one you mentioned earlier?" El-Melloi II raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't you focus on clearing your name first?"

"No, this is equally important," Wills shook his head, his determined gaze causing El-Melloi II to fall silent.

"It's fine. Since she's willing to wait, let's make her wait a little longer," Cyd stretched. "If possible, I'd like to take a bath too."

El-Melloi II: ...

"Care to join me?" Cyd winked.

"Oh my, brother, this is a chance to strengthen your friendship~ Don't be shy about your physique~" Reines teased with a wicked smile.

"Let's leave it at that," El-Melloi II sighed.

"Then we'll be on our way," Sisigou grinned, slapping Cyd's shoulder. "I'll lead the way."

"Haa… can't help but feel a little pressed," El-Melloi II scratched his head.

"Master?" Gray tilted her head.

"Ah… it's nothing. Gray, you should rest too," El-Melloi II shook his head.

"I'm not tired, Master!"

"You…" El-Melloi II hesitated, glancing at Wills.

"It's alright, nothing shady going on," Wills shook his head. "Please, follow me."

"Then let's go together," El-Melloi II sighed.

"Alright!" Gray's eyes lit up.

Bathhouse.

"Ah, this is the life…" Cyd closed his eyes instinctively as he relaxed in the hot water. "I finally understand why they're so clingy about staying in places like these."

"Do you really need to bring that box with you even when bathing? And… that black thing?" Sisigou, sitting beside Cyd, curiously glanced at the black box on Cyd's other side, as well as his menacing dragon hand with black scales opening and closing like they had a life of their own in the water.

"You should be glad she can't hear you right now," Cyd shrugged. "Or the water in this pool would turn red."

"Then I'll have to count on you to save me," Sisigou said nonchalantly.

"No can do, I'm relaxing right now," Cyd slid further into the hot water, leaving only half his face above the surface, bubbles rising.

"That… could be bad, then…" Sisigou closed his eyes, the comfortably warm water easing the tension in his body.

So much so that neither noticed when others entered the bathhouse.

"Oh my, what a coincidence," Hishiri Adashino, wrapped in a towel, adjusted her glasses.

"Not really, we should have put up a sign outside," Cyd said, eyes closed, enjoying the hot water.

"No, we didn't," Sisigou slowly sank down, leaving only his head above the water like Cyd.

"Alright, it really is a coincidence," Cyd said, shaking his head.

"Don't worry, we're here for the sauna," Hishiri Adashino glanced at the conspicuous black box beside Cyd before heading towards the sauna room not far away. Waletta shot Cyd and Sisigou a look before following her.

"How about exchanging some information?" Cyd opened his eyes after Hishiri Adashino and Waletta entered the sauna.

"Aren't detectives supposed to solve cases on their own?" Hishiri Adashino, who had just sat down, paused before smiling.

"If the clues are already organized, why waste time searching for them again?" Cyd stretched. "Solving the case quickly benefits you too, right?"

"Indeed. Aside from our disagreement on the suspect, we should be on the same side," Hishiri Adashino chuckled softly, shaking her head at the anxious Waletta. "As for the necromancy, you've got an expert right next to you. I won't say more. Lord Codrington wanted to achieve something with this workshop. We're still investigating his goal, but right now, the most crucial thing is how to stop the workshop from going out of control."

"So, you haven't uncovered anything?" Cyd raised an eyebrow.

"How blunt," Hishiri Adashino narrowed her eyes. "But yes, all signs point to Wills. Every time he returns to the workshop, someone dies."

"Then let's verify that, shall we?" Cyd chuckled, lifting his left wrist. "So… who will be the next person to die tonight?"
