Chapter 119: Bad situation

A/N: this is before the chapter as I saw several comments about him being too weak/not living up to the hype and the beggining of this chapter might not help your opinions. "Why did he flee" was a major question, being surrounded at all sides by vampires who are more physically advanced than morpheus with golems also attacking him at the same time is a bad situation to be in especially since he couldn't apparate to create space. Vlad already got a hit in literally stabbing him which would kill every other wizard in this situation. With it being on vampire territory he had nothing set up for wide scale death. Yes he could have killed a LOT of them but he would be injured a lot more severely.

Might be author bias but I honestly can not see how strategically retreating made him weak. I'm trying to make his strength look realistic, if this was on his territory or a neautral third party ground were he could have visited beforehand the battle would have gone a lot differantly. Several chapters down the line you will see him do something before another meeting which was a result of this one. Growth people growth. Also want to say thank you for reading this ff, trying to make it as best I can!

*Morpheus pov*

I gasped in pain and exhaustion as I stumbled into my manor, my vision was blurring and my heart beating faster than lightning.

They will regret this.

Oh, Vladimir will regret his choice.

I tore off my robe the puncture of Vladimir's sword still burning in pain, that damn blade sucks the blood of anyone stabbed.

The pill's effect was running out, my brain felt as if it was pressed into a vice. My whole body was beginning to feel sore, my magic utterly depleted. That ritual took far too much out of me, it is usually performed in a safer manner with better materials.

I didn't have the luxury of that.

"Argh!" I grunted in pain as I knocked into a cabinet

Looking inside my cabinet I took a simple pepper-up potion and pain resistance potion, no potion would suffice for now, and my Phoenix tear supply was dreadfully low and not reachable at the moment.

But, there is something in this manor that can help. The pain was barely reduced by the potions, I grunted walking toward my supply cabinet.

Flipping open the lid of a preservation box I kept to handle precious materials I winced as I took out the unicorn heart contained within, I had it here because I was going to perform a divination spell with it. Alas, this dreadful wound won't disappear without this or Phoenix's tears and I would rather waste a unicorn heart.

Easier to procure.

Taking the heart in my right hand I began to softly chant, the chant start slow and soft and began to slightly become harsher. My throat burned in pain as the words left my lips, a soft ethereal glow rose from the pure unicorn heart and drifted to my lips.

As the essence of the pure creature of nature entered my body the sword wound began to heal, and my body began to feel warm. My body healed at a rapid pace, but my lips never stopped moving. The heart began to dry and shrivel becoming harder than stone.

As my chanting stopped and the unicorn heart was used in full I leaned against the wall exhausted. The magical exhaustion and strain were still present but, it was much more manageable.

Closing my eyes I cursed softly under my breath. I knew things were progressing too smoothly. Sighing I pushed off of the wall and dragged my body to the fireplace, "Flamel home, France" I said softly throwing the floo powder into the smoldering flames

Appearing in the Flamel's home I stumbled softly feeling the wards tighten and then release me, "Morpheus great magic what happened to you?" Nicolas asked coming to my side and helping me to a chair

"Vladimir laid a trap," I grunted

He cursed, "Crafty bastard," he brought me a glass of magically curated water

"What now?" he asked softly in contemplation

I laughed, "Now I get to work,"

I saw his eyes darken, "Morpheus, you cannot do what I think you are planning! How are you going to fare against the whole vampire race?" he asked

I laughed, "My specialty was never brute force Nicolas, I will deal with the vampires. Now have you thought about going into business with me? It is a legal one I assure you," I said with a small smile

He wanted to know more about my retaliation but I knew he wouldn't press, "My wife wouldn't be very happy," he said with a chuckle

"Perenelle would be ecstatic I assure you," I shot back playfulness dancing on my lips

"Well, why don't you tell her the business hmm?" A soft voice sounded from the stairs

I looked over and smiled at her figure, "Perenelle! A pleasure as always I was beginning to think Nicolas was hiding you from me," I joked taking a sip of my water

He glared, "I was, you two get into the worst of situations!" he complained leaning back into his chair in annoyance

"Well what is this business then?" she asked taking a seat beside me

She avoided mentioning my sorry state, it was appreciative.

"Well, you see it would be as simple as this…"

After returning to my manor I went to the research room and began to pour over my old journals and write a list of materials I will need in the near future.

Although I would like to say the loss of vampires as allies wasn't that big of a loss I would be wrong. Unlike the centaurs, mermen, and goblins; the vampires are a race of predators, hunters of the night. They would have been a large bolster in my military might.

Vladimir choosing them over me was enraging, I have known him and his family for years. I aided them in many ways, but they decided to end the alliance during the most important moment!

Where Vladimir made a mistake is when he didn't kill me in the first attack. That would have delayed or ended this whole thing. But, I'm alive and I know the vampiric race better than anyone.

I have studied them, their blood, bones, organs, and mind. I have dissected everything about the curse or blessing of vampirism. I will now use that knowledge to destroy their race, Vladimir will plead with me, begging for me to allow them to live.

And I will deny him!

Finishing my list I began to mark off what I already had in stock, eventually, I realized I only needed to find a few materials. Though they are quite rare.

I think another traveling market will be held soon, and there I can gather my materials.

Laying out my plan I decided to force myself to rest some before having to return to Hogwarts.

Ah, I also need to meet with the Black family soon.

***

Walking through the halls of Hogwarts I made my way to Dumbledore's office. I passed by several students on my way. My magic was still strained but less so now, tomorrow I should be in my normal state and finally, I could get rid of the taint that surrounded me since using the unicorn heart.

The taint wasn't horrible, but it could be harmful to my body in the long run best to erase it now before it festers. Otherwise, what happened to those past defense instructors would look like Child's play.

Finally, I made my way to Dumbledore's office, and entering I saw him writing on a parchment humming a small tune.

He looked up at me with a pleased smile, "Come sit tell me all of the good news," he said with a bright smile

Oh, he is going to be disappointed.

"Negotiations fell short my friend, it seems the vampires will not be swayed," I replied with a sad sigh

His face fell.
