Chapter 757: Loyalty to Rosier

Editor: Atlas Studios

Ivan spoke as he read the memories that came to mind.

"I have been told that you fell on your knees at Voldemort's feet of your own accord, in exchange for information from Knockturn Alley, so that he would not punish you. Is that correct, Avery?"

"Unfortunately, Voldemort will not spare a former traitor so easily, so he orders you to return to me, gather information, recruit more wizards from Knockturn Alley, and make them Death Eaters…"

"But since you miss the Cruciatus Curse so much and brought it up, I will naturally grant your request!"

Ivan's words were sharp, each one like a hammer blow to Avery's heart.

Avery, who was lying on the ground, trembled uncontrollably. He looked at the young wizard in front of him in horror, wondering where he had heard this news from.

However, there were only a few Death Eaters present that day, and each of them was someone the Dark Lord approved of and trusted…

"You think this is secret enough to fool me? Avery, you may not know this, but once a third person knows something, it is no longer a secret…" Ivan scoffed.

Avery's face fell, and when it was confirmed that one of the Death Eaters must have sold him out…

That's right, if those people were really that loyal to the Dark Lord, they would be locked up in Azkaban, not out on the loose…

Yvonne knew exactly what Avery was thinking and did not try to correct him.

This was because he had deliberately created this misunderstanding, creating a spy that did not even exist today to hide his Legilimency.

After all, no wizard would want to be read.

If anyone were to discover that they were using psychic magic to probe everyone's thoughts, they would undoubtedly harbor ill-intentions, though they would not express it.

Most importantly, his Legilimency could only read the surface of a person's mind without casting the spell.

Therefore, it was more important to hide your identity as a Legilimency Master.

Of course, there were disadvantages to saying so.

If one of the wizards present were caught by the Death Eaters and interrogated for information, Snape, as a member of the Order of the Phoenix spy, would be even more upset.

Ivan silently mourned for Snape for a second, then looked away from Avery to the other wizards.

"Does anyone else have anything to say besides Avery? Do you want to come forward, or do you want me to say your names one by one?" Yvonne asked.

After a short silence, three wizards stepped forward, trembling, and to everyone's surprise, one of them was a werewolf.

"Carter, I can't believe you betrayed us as well!" Flan scolded the werewolf wizard who had stepped forward.

He couldn't understand why a fellow werewolf would choose to betray them. Ivan had never mistreated them. Not only did he trust them and give them stable, high-paying jobs, but he also developed and improved the Wolfsbane Potion so that they could live a normal life.

Carter's betrayal was akin to biting the hand that fed him. If Ivan hadn't spoken, Flan would have killed him.

Walker and the others also stared at the werewolf wizard with disdain and resentment, worried that Ivan would be suspicious of them over this incident.

Under the knife-sharp gaze of the werewolf wizards, Carter stumbled to his knees and crawled like Avery to Ivan, begging for his forgiveness.

The other two wizards pointed angrily at Avery, stating that they had been bewitched and had made the wrong choice.

Ivan sat back in his seat, not bothering to listen to their excuses. He had already given them a chance, but they didn't appreciate it. It was too late for regrets.

While Ivan remained silent, the wizards continued to search for the last betrayer. They all agreed that since Lord Hales had removed five chairs, there could be no mistake!

In the crowd, Rosier was visibly agitated, as he could not be certain that the chair that had been taken from him was the one that had been taken from him.

Because Avery had come to him last night, and while he had hesitated to agree to it at the time, it was not technically an act of betrayal … who knew if Ivan would think so?

At this thought, Rosier kept looking around, hoping that someone would step forward so that he could be completely at ease.

However, after waiting for half a minute, Rosier did not see the scene he had hoped for.

As time passed, the pressure on Rozier grew. Eventually, he gritted his teeth and spoke.

"Sir Harls, Avery asked me to join the Dark Lord as a Death Eater last night, and he told me that they would help me regain control of the Wizarding Market if I would join the Dark Lord…"

As soon as he opened his mouth, Rosier regurgitated everything that had happened, not daring to hold anything back. He knew very well that if Ivan sent someone to interrogate Avery, none of this would be hidden.

"So you're just going to go along with it?" said Alicia fiercely, glaring at Rosier.

Rosier shook his head frantically and explained, "No, it did not, and I firmly refused Avery's offer, advising him to think very carefully about the consequences of betraying Lord Harls…"

"Don't think you can wash yourself out of this, Rosier!" Avery managed to get to his feet. He glared at Rosier, interrupting him. "You told me the other day that you were going to carefully consider my opinion and give me an answer the next day…"

"What a joke. I said that on purpose to confuse you so that I could gather evidence and inform Sir Harls at today's meeting!" Rozelle said righteously, then turned to Yvonne, trying to please her.

"It's just that I didn't think Sir Harls would have known and seen through you before I did…"
