Chapter 580: Contemporary Collection of Alchemy (1)

Editor: Atlas Studios

"This is used to organize and search books. All you have to do is place your wand on the table and read out the name or type of book, and the spell will be activated to select the book you want," Nick Flamel explained, pointing to the platform.

'That convenient?'

Yvonne was surprised, thinking that this magical platform resembled a Muggle search engine.

When he was at the Black family home, he was troubled that there were too many books to find, but Nick Flamel solved the problem.

By now, Nick Flamel had pulled out his wand, placed it against the table of the dais, and was demonstrating to Ivan.

"Type: Advanced Alchemy…"

At the sound of Nick Flamel's voice, one of the shelves to the right of the front shook.

Shortly after, Ivan saw over a hundred books being pulled out of the shelves and flying towards him. The books then split into five neat groups and landed on the platform with loud thuds.

Contemporary Collection of Alchemy, Advanced Enchantment, Studies and Use of Runes…

Ivan scanned the pages and realised that he had never seen most of the books before. Curiously, he picked up the copy of The Contemporary Collection of Alchemy and flipped through it. The pages were new, and the title of the book was "Nick Flamel".

"Are these books your work, sir?" Yvonne asked, looking at Nick Flamel. No wonder he couldn't find them anywhere else. They must have been written by him over the years.

"Most of them are!" Nick Flamel nodded, confirming Ivan's suspicions, then waved his wand and chanted, "Return!"

With the exception of Ivan's copy of the Contemporary Alchemical Attachment, the rest of the book slowly floated back into place.

"Choose the book you want and put the rest back! But remember, the spell only works if you place the book on the dais." Nick Lemec turned to Ivan and explained the uses and drawbacks of the dais.

Ivan listened attentively, occasionally asking about the meaning of the runes inscribed on the magical dais. He was planning to install one of these "search engines" at home.

After teaching Ivan how to use the High Platform Search feature, Nick Flamel left without further ado.

Left alone, Ivan didn't mind too much, as he was well aware that Nick Flamel was presumably off researching the Resurrection Stone.

It goes without saying how much a Deathly Hallows appealed to a Master Alchemist, and it was good of Nick Flamel to take some time each day to answer his own questions.

Ivan knew his place. He and Nick Flamel were not officially master and apprentice, and the other man had no obligation to teach him.

With that thought in mind, Ivan pulled up a chair and sat down next to a bookshelf. Slowly, he flipped through the pages of The Contemporary Record of Alchemy.

Ivan spent the next few days eating, reading, interacting, and sleeping in the Alchemy Hut.

Although there was little room for activity on a daily basis, Ivan found it very fulfilling and pleasant.

There was no need to put on an act in front of a group of imaginative freaks, much less scheme against the Dark Wizards. Compared to before, life was perfect!

After becoming familiar with the new environment, Ivan's previous restraint was gone, and his reading room gradually moved from the library to the living room.

Eventually she was able to sit comfortably by the fire, sipping iced lemon juice and turning the pages slowly, feeling the slight chill from the blue fire.

Ivan didn't think there were many wizards in the wizarding world on a hot summer's day like him…

However, there were some things that bothered Ivan. The books in the library were extremely difficult to understand, and even with Ivan's current level of alchemy, it was difficult for him to study them.

If it weren't for the fact that he had deliberately left behind a large number of school points and could use the Experience Card to increase his learning speed at critical moments, he probably wouldn't have been able to study a book thoroughly in a few days.

It wasn't until a week later, in the afternoon, that Ivan finally reached the last page of the book, where the Alchemy Manuscript lay on the table, filling in the blanks.

Ivan put down the book and instinctively tried to take a sip from the glass next to him, only to find that it was empty.

Ivan set the glass aside and said, "Wakaka… pour me another cold drink!"

Upon hearing this, a group of smaller alchemical creatures immediately gathered around and, like ants moving a house, laboriously moved a jar full of lemon juice over and then combined their efforts to dump the jar and slowly fill the cup.

"Well done!" Yvonne complimented him with a smile, taking a sip from her cup.

The ice-cold lemon juice flowed down her throat and into her stomach, and then it spread, sending a chill through her mind and lifting her spirits.

When you're tired of reading, you'll feel so good after a cold drink…

The smaller alchemical creatures were delighted at Ivan's praise, and shouted "Ulla!" as they tried to get the jar back on the ghostly blue stove.

Apparently, this cold drink was baked over a fire!

During his first few days at the school, Ivan was baffled by the strange magical furnace, but after reading many books on alchemy, he was able to understand how it worked.

To put it bluntly, Nick Flamel had used some sort of alchemical charm to reverse the temperature of the flames, resulting in this.

However, the efficiency of the conversion was obviously not ideal. He had once tried to approach it, but the temperature of the flames was only a few degrees below zero.

Even so, the alchemical formation's function was enough to surprise Ivan, who had studied physics in high school and found it difficult to understand how it was done.

Most magic, however, is difficult to analyse using existing theories.

For example, Peter Pettigrew, who weighed over two hundred pounds, could transform into a mouse that weighed a few pounds using the Animagus Transfiguration. There were dozens of times the weight difference between the two, and the excess mass would mysteriously disappear, or the mouse would simply shrink back into its body by magic.

"Well… idealistic… idealistic! I think it's cold because it's cold, and I think it's hot because it's hot!" Ivan tried to explain this in a different way. He tapped his wand on his cup to see if he could turn a cold drink into a hot drink.

The cup, however, did not give Ivan any face and exploded, sending cold lemonade flying everywhere and splattering Ivan's face…
