I keep a straight face, but he says, "It's okay to be afraid when you hear about demons. Even if they have somehow made their way back, I will destroy them all so there's nothing to fear." No longer was I afraid of him connecting me to any of this. The guy was truly dense. An idiot!
I look away, trying to think of an exit strategy when he suddenly leans over with a frown. "Are you hurt?" You know what... I lean back against the trees and softly say, "Do whatever you need to. I'm just going to rest for a bit."
His frown deepens as he reaches out to touch me but suddenly, the air around us freezes. A deep, smooth voice says, "Is this a new hobby of yours? Going around and harassing women now?" My eyes snap open as I turn and see Bolin casually walking over.
My entire body freezes when I see the man in solid black walk over like he doesn't have a care in the world. I may have even bought the 'I don't care about anything look' if I hadn't seen his eyes. He looks... angry. Weimin turns with a look of shock before stepping in front of me and glaring at Bolin.
Was Weimin trying to protect me from Bolin? Hah... that's almost cute.
Weimin glares at Bolin and sarcastically says, "What is the great Bolin doing out in these parts?" Bolin ignores him and asks me, "Why are you hanging out with this... thing?" I snort, trying to keep from laughing, and quickly clear my voice as I say, "He says that he's in the area investigating. We happened to cross paths. What brings you all the way out here?"
He narrows his dark eyes at me before pushing past a stunned Weimin and saying, "You." He doesn't hesitate to bend down and scoop me up. Shocked, I quickly wrap my arms around his neck and look at him with wide eyes.
Weimin sputters beside us as he says, "You two know each other??" Bolin answers, "Yes, but it doesn't concern you." Weimin looks taken back by his words and looks to me for confirmation. I open my mouth to speak but Bolin says, "Enough playing, let us go."
Go where!?!
Weimin suddenly opens his arms, trying to block Bolin as he says, "I can't let you take her. You'll taint her!" If Bolin hadn't been holding me, I would have fallen over. Why does this guy think I'm so pure and good!? And who said I'd like this guy taint me!?
Bolin's dark chuckle sends a shiver down my spine. I look up to find him giving Weimin and dark smirk as he says, "I plan on doing more than just tainting her but what does that even have to do with you? Run along Weimin and play hero with your friends." I'm sorry, you're gonna do what now??
Weimin's face contorts in anger but before he can say anything, darkness surrounds us. I panic as everything disappears but Bolin chuckles as his hold on me tightens. He leans in and whispers, "I've got you."
Suddenly, the darkness is gone, and what appears to be a large building stands before us. The man I threw against the wall at our first meeting, bows at us but remains silent. Bolin pays no attention to the man as he walks me in.
I try to get down, but he holds me tight and says, "Let's save us both some time and effort. You and I both know you can't walk. Just bear with me for a moment." I awkwardly remain in his arms as he carries me over to a beautiful table outside.
A large tree hangs over the table, covering the whole thing in shade. Bolin gently places me down and then asks, "What did you do to become so weak?" Ah, he seems angry again. Should I tell him the truth? It's not like it'll hurt anything, right?
"Well?" He probs, reaching out for my chin. I lean back, lightly pushing his hand away as I say, "I was trying to go back home but... I'm not strong enough. Not yet." When I look up and meet his dark eyes, I pause.
Whatever emotion was there, was quickly hidden the next moment. He places a teacup in front of me and says, "Drink, your hands are cold." I mumble thanks as I sip the tea. It was really good tea, the best I've ever had if I were to be honest.
The tea feels as if it's warming my very soul! I wrap my hands around the small cup as Bolin sits across from me and asks, "How did you pick up that leech?" I cough, nearly choking on the tea as I look up at him and say, "Why do I get the feeling you two have a past?"
Bolin remains unreadable as he pours himself tea and says, "He and I go back some time, but we've never seen... eye to eye on things." I take another sip and silently nod. I somehow completely understand without even knowing what really happened.
If I could put it into words, the guy gave off "self-appointed hero" vibes. I've only interacted with him a handful of times, but he managed to rub me the wrong way each time.
Bolin suddenly speaks up and says, "I never knew that even I could feel like this." Confused, I frown and look at him as I ask, "What? What are you talking about?"
Bolin gives me a dark smile over the rim of his teacup, taking a sip before saying, "Having the woman I like thinking of another man while sitting in front of me." My eyes grow large before I quickly look away.
Even I can feel my cheeks burning. Why would he say that!?
His voice holds an evil laugh as he says, "You didn't seem to mind my embrace this time." I nearly drop the cup, hissing in pain as I spill the hot tea. I slam the cup down and glare at him with a mixture of emotions surging through me.
I speak through my teeth as I say, "This and that are different."
He leans back with a dark knowing smile and says, "Not really, this time we both got to feel a lot more, wouldn't you agree?"
