Aláine's Point of View
There was a screeching of brakes and looking up, I could see another van had arrived. Michel and the two soldiers got out of the vehicle.
"Sorry, Alpha, We've been following the wrong van," Michel said. "They played us at our own game."
"Damn!" growled Kristof.
My heart dropped into my stomach as I grew more and more disheartened. Every word they spoke confirmed that their lives had been in danger because of me. Viktor, now I knew his name, was after me. He wanted to kill Kristof to get to me and was willing to kill anyone who got in his way. What the hell had I done to incur his attention and apparent anger?
"Arrange for a tow truck to clear up this mess. The rest of us will need to go back to the packhouse and debrief," said Kristof.
His voice dragged me back into reality. I looked up at him when he took my hand.
"Let's go back to the packhouse," he said, "I'll explain it then."
