Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Throwing Hands (2)
'Sigh... In the couple of days we spent with the kid I can tell he's special, but today was really just alarming. It's high time I find out how special he is.' Marshall thought to himself, while going the opposite of Marco, as they were now setting a distance for their battle.
Marco quietly walked a distance before facing Marshall, in a basic fighting stance.
"So... no weapons?"
"Sure, kid! Let's see how you move."
Taking a deep breath, using his mana breathing technique circulating mana in his blood, he felt invigorated. He felt his senses sharpen, he could feel the movement of air more clearly, his eyes could now see more details in the vicinity. His hearing was also greatly boosted, as he could hear his own, and Marshall's heartbeat, he could even hear the sound of a diaphragm contracting.
"*Whistle*... Damn kid you really are made for fighting!" Marshall looked at Marco and felt the subtle change in him. He could feel the Marco was a wild animal that can accurately perceive all his attacks. He then recalled his time hunting alone, the animals would always know where he would attack, making the hunts take more time and energy. That's why Marshall relies on teamwork, his teammates would divert the animal's attention, then strike with an attack, making hunting extremely efficient.
While Marshall was assessing Marco, he was also assessing Marshall. He was looking at Marshall's physical qualities, such as his estimated height and weight, his physique. He then thought about his skills, he was an experienced hunter, he has also played around with his grimoire for a long time, making him quite a tough opponent. But Marco was immensely excited as he really curious if he can kick ass with the body of kid.
He rushed at Marshall, utilizing his heightened senses, he telegraphed a sweeping kick, which he immediately dodged by jumping upwards and did a flying kick. Marshall was wide eyed as he saw how Marco read his movement, but calmed down soon after, as he blocked the kick by crossing his arms. This made him step back a few times.
"Not bad." Marshall then stepped it up a notch by attacking more faster, and to his surprise Marco kept up with his pace. Marshall was amazed, he could tell Marco was not experienced as he frequently went along his feints, but could counter by sheer reaction speed. Not only his reaction speed, his actions and decision-making are superb. Marco hitting him at a certain angle, at a certain timing, his feints were now ineffective as they were often shot down by Marco. This showed his extremely adaptability, and skill.
Soon Marshall got enough of striking, he used his advantage of an adult body. He used grappling attacks, which made Marco stay away from him, not even nearing Marshall's breath. They looked at each other in the eye. Soon, Marshall suddenly grinned, and lunged at Marco, attempting to tackle him. He was surprised, by the sudden attack, but immediately thought of a counter move, as soon as Marshall was in his strike zone, he struck with his knee hitting Marshall at his nose bridge, but Marshall succeeded in grabbing Marco, as he lifted him up.
When the opponent is superior in either power, or speed, the only way to get a good decisive hit, is by exchanging damage with damage. Marco was very agile, showing his superiority in speed. Marshall succeeded, but then Marco clinged on his arm, attempting to do a flying armbar. But with his small physique it was not effective on Marshall's fit, adult body. Marshall was also the most fit among the hunters, as he always used tools when fighting.
"Haha! Give it up kid! It was a good battle though." He said while lifting Marco up, holding his whole head in his arm. Marco sighed, as he gave up, releasing his grip on Marshall's arm.
"Heh! I was tired from hunting that big ass bear, so I was not in top shape in this fight, besides you really that proud winning against a kid?" Marco immediately said shooting down Marshall's cockiness.
"Ugh... shut it kid. Turns out you're not really good... but you're not bad." Marshall said back, doing a tsundere move. He then returned back at the group.
"Woah! Holy Shit Marco! that was amazing!" Chris said in excitement as he recalled how Marco kept up with Marshall's pace.
"Fuck... that was.... yeah just as Chris said, amazing." Ali muttered as he was speechless at the events.
While Hans just gave a thumbs up. They discussed the battle, praising Marco, and teasing Marshall, as the say, You can make friends after a fight. This event made them closer than before. They ate breakfast, before Ali reminded them of the magic knight matter.
They all looked at Ali before Hans looked at Marshall and asked , "We can go right after we finish up here right?" He then nodded and finished up his food. After that, they prepared to go to Kelly's and meet with the magic knight assigned at their village.
