Chapter 20: "The Pilot -2"

*MC POV*
After that fiasco, Grandpa came to get me and we went toward my office's location. We spent some time there and I talked with my design team about some new designs. Grandpa talked with the manager and kept asking about the numbers because he did not like the manager for some reason.
After that, it was Manny's soccer game time. Gloria was going to take him and asked me to come as well on the call. So, I decided to tag along with Grandpa.
When we reached the location, the game was about to start and Grandpa took out a foldable lawn chair from the car's trunk.
I met Gloria and she hugged me. She always has a strong relationship with me than anyone in the family except Grandpa and Manny.
Partly it is because I speak in her mother tongue when I am talking to her and also I was the one who was there when she met Grandpa. Despite my going out of the restaurant, she still saw me and told me that when we later met.
As we were talking about what happened in the company. She asked about my mom and dad, in between the game started, and like in the canon by halftime Manny's team was down 0-6 and then the iconic Colombian woman started her cheering.

*3rd POV*
Gloria: "Bravo, Manny! Kick it, kick it! Don't let him- kick it! Manito! (says something in Spanish) No! No, no! He tripped him, Jay. Where is the penalty?"
Jay: "Gloria, they're 0-6. Let's take it down a notch."
Nate: "What is their coach even doing, I didn't even see him asking for a substitute or raising an objection on the referee calls."
(Commentary - Jay & Gloria)
Gloria: "We're very different. Jay's from the city, and he has big business. I come from a small village – very poor, but very, very beautiful. It's the number one village in all of Colombia for all the… (looks at Jay) what's the word?"
Jay: "Murders."
Gloria: "(looking at the camera) Yes, the murders."
(Cut back to the scene)
Gloria: "Manny, stop him! (says something in Spanish)"
Manny waves at a girl on bicycle; the other team scores.
Teammate: "Dammit, Manny."
Soccer Mom: "Come on, coach. You've gotta take that kid out!"
Gloria: "You wanna take him out? How about I take you out?"
Jay: "Honey, honey…"
Nate: "(to the Soccer Mom)Mind your business lady."
Gloria: "Yeah, Why don't you worry about your son? He spent the first half with his hand in his pants!"
Nate: "(laughs)"
Soccer Mom: "(mouths) Wow… (walks off)"
Random Guy: "I've wanted to tell her off for the last six weeks. I'm Josh, Ryan's dad."
Gloria: "Hi, I'm Gloria Pritchett, Manny's mother."
Josh: "Oh, and this must be your dad."
Jay: Her dad? No. No, that's funny. Actually, no, I'm her husband. Don't be fooled by the, uh… (tries getting up from the chair) Gimme a second here.
Nate:"(helps Jay out of the chair) Yeah, back off buddy, she does not have any interest in you, not now or ever(guy walks off)."
Gloria: "He was not hitting on me, was he?(confusingly)"
Jay: "(sighs) Oh Gloria."

*MC POV"
So the match ended pretty much after that and what was clear from the start, Manny's team lost. After that Grandpa was dropping me off at my house and in the car, a new argument started taking place.

*3rd POV*
Manny: "(outside the car)I'm quitting soccer. It is a game for children."
Nate: "You are a kid, despite you sometimes not acting like it, you are still a little boy."
Gloria: "No, you're not quitting. You would've stopped the goal if you weren't staring at the little girl."
Manny: "She's not a girl. She is a woman. (both enter car with Jay in the driver's seat and Nate on the passenger side)"
Jay: "You know, Gloria, that little blow-up with that other mom– why do you have to do things like that?"
Gloria: "If somebody says something about my family, I'm going to-"
Jay: "You don't have to… I'm just saying you could take it down here a little bit, that's all."
Gloria: "Oh, yeah, 'cause that's where you live – down here. But I live up here.(while gesturing with her hand)"
Jay: "B-but you don't have to be so emotional all the time. That's all I'm saying. Manny, Nate you're with me on this one, right?"
Nate: "I'm going to take the fifth on this one(surrendering with his hands)"
Manny: "I wanna tell Brenda Feldman I love her."
Jay: "Oh, for god's sake."
Nate: "Who is Brenda Feldman?"
Gloria: "Manny, she's sixteen."
Manny: "Oh, it's okay for you to take an older lover?"
Jay & Nate: "Hey, watch it."
Manny: "I wanna go to the mall where she works. But first I need to get my white shirt. The silk one."
Gloria: "Okay. If that's what you really want to do…"
Jay: "Seriously, not to be the evil stepdad, but if you put on a puffy white shirt and declare your love for a sixteen-year-old, you're gonna be swinging from the flag pole in your puffy white underpants. Isn't it right Nate?"
Nate: "I'll have to agree with you on this one Grandpa. Manny, you don't love that girl, you just have a crush on her."
Manny: "Stop the car!"
Gloria: "Where are you going? (Manny gets out) Do you two see? You hurt his feelings."
Jay: "Oh, well, if it toughens him up a little bit, then… geez, he's picking flowers."
Nate: "(rubs his head in frustration)"
(Commentary - Jay & Gloria)
Gloria: "Manny's very passionate. Just like his father. My first husband, he's very handsome but too crazy. It seemed like all we did was fight and make love, fight and make love, fight and make love. One time – I'm not kidding you – we fell out the window together."
Jay: "Which one were you doing? (looking at the camera) I'm hearing this for the first time."

*MC POV*
After dropping me off at our house, Grandpa has to take Manny to the mall, where his crush works. Despite not being happy about this, Gloria said so and I teased Grandpa about this when Manny and Gloria were buying the white silk shirt for Manny. And his answer was, "Get married and then come after me". which silenced me. I went inside my house and there was a sound of a car stopping outside, which I ignored, almost forgot that Dylan was coming. Then, the doorbell rang.

*3rd POV*
(Doorbell rings)
Haley: "Don't answer it; I'll get it! (runs to the door; Claire almost gets there first)"
Nate: "(before Claire could open the door, opens it) Yes, who are you? Who do you want to meet?"
Claire: "Hi! Hey, you must be Dylan. (walking past Nate, shakes Dylan's hand)"
Dylan: "Hey. Dylan, yeah."
Nate: "Oh, Dylan. Haley's Dylan, I presume."
Claire: I'm Haley's mother. And this is my son and Haley's twin brother Nate."
Dylan: "(shakes Nate's hand and winces) Hey, aah! I'm Dylan. (taking back his hand and shaking it up and down.) It's nice to meet you."
Nate: "(in a serious manner)It's nice to meet you too."
Haley: "Hey. okay, Now let's go. (leads Dylan upstairs)"
Claire: "Okay, um… hang on one second. Um… Woah. Dylan, you're still in high school?"
Dylan: "Yeah, I'm a senior."
Claire: A senior. Okay. Cool. Phil, sweety, honey… he is Dylan and he is a senior… (whispers) and you need to scare him.
Phil: Let me meet this playa. Phil Dunphy, yo.
(Commentary- Phil)
Phil: It's like that. You just- you just stare down on them and let the eyes do the work. Your mouth might be saying, "Hey, we cool," but your eyes are like, "No, we not." (points to mouth) "Nice to meet you." (points to eyes) "No, it's not." (points to mouth) "S'all good." (points to eyes) "S'all (mumbles) is isn't."
(Cut back to the scene)
Phil: "Yo."
Dylan: "Yo."
Haley: "Okay, I see you guys have-"
Phil: "Wait, wait, wait! You two… you two keep it real, know what I mean, son?"
Dylan: "Not really."
Haley: "Please stop."
Nate: "Dad, let me talk to him."
Phil: That's cool. (hand slips off stair rail) Ow! Oh god, that's my back!
Claire: "Sweetheart…"
Nate: "Dad! what happened?"
Phil: "Ow! Oh, I slipped on the baby oil."
(Commentary- Phil)
Phil: "(points to mouth) "Oh, where're you from originally?" (points to the eye) "I could defeat you if it came to a physical confrontation."
(Cut back to the scene)
Nate: "Here let me help you(picks Phil up)."
Phil: (being carried by Nate) Ow, ow, ow, ow.
Claire: "I don't know about this. Should I call a doctor?"
Phil: "No, no, no, no, no. You're very strong, Nate."
Nate: "Thanks, Dad. But, are you alright? (places Phil on the couch)"
Phil: "Okay, nice. Nice soft landing."
Nate: "There you go."
Haley: "Okay, let's go. (she and Dylan are about to leave)"
Nate: "Haley, where are you going? Dad is in pain and you didn't even ask him once. If he is alright or he needs something? and you goofy haircut(points at Dylan), how old are you?"
Dylan: "Seventeen, sir!"
Nate: "I'm watching you and don't think of the monkey business upstairs, do you get it?"
Dylan: "Yes, Sir!"
Nate: "Okay, now go and don't call me "Sir", call me "Nate"."
Haley: "Stop embarrassing me(whispers to Nate). Let's go, Dylan."
Phil: "I am on my side, though, can you just flip me right back? I'll be good. I just need to get flipped right on my back, and we should be fine, so…"
Nate: "Oh, sorry Dad! (flips Phil onto his back) Here, is this fine? Do you need anything else?"
Phil: "Water, get me a cup of water."
Nate: "Okay. (move towards the kitchen, Claire tag along)."
Claire: "What was that with Dylan? You don't usually talk like this."
Nate: "I don't like that guy. I don't know, why but it's just a gut feeling."
Claire: "Yeah, I don't like it either, but you have to respect the choice your sister made despite you not liking that guy."
Nate: "Yeah, mom. You don't like him either and he is about to be a senior and Haley is only going to be a sophomore."
Claire: "We'll cross that bridge when it will come to that."
Nate get Phil water and Phil after some time went to his showing. Then Nate helps Claire with the cake she is baking for the party tonight at Mitch and Cam's.
