Chapter 1: A Violent Crash!

‘Ahh, so he is at home! But why wasn't he picking up my calls? I bet he will be so surprised to see me.’ Amelia smiled softly to herself. ‘How did I become so lucky to find someone like him by my side to celebrate another birthday of my lonely life?’

Amelia had an umbrella clutched tightly in one hand, a bag of groceries in the other. In the heavy rain, she had journeyed from her dorms to the new house she had bought together with her fiancé, Felix, just so they could spend some time together. They were to be wed after she graduated from her veterinary course, which was soon.

They both had the same aspirations and Amelia had never met someone as wonderful as Felix, so when he proposed, she was more than eager to fork out all her life savings to build a home with him.

Tomorrow would be her 23rd birthday. All throughout today, she was unable to reach his phone, which caused Amelia to worry if something bad had happened to him.

‘Maybe he was just preparing a surprise for me?’ she wondered.

She glanced at the lit windows of the apartment, a blush on her cheeks. That place was supposed to be their new love nest in less than a week.

Folding her umbrella, she started climbing the stairs in a rush as she was too impatient to wait for the elevator.

As soon as she reached the floor, from her purse she took out the spare key which he had given to her since the day he had moved in here. She eagerly unlocked the doorknob and quickly barged inside with a wide delighted smile.

“Surprise!”

She squealed in joy, stepping inside the hallway of the room. But never did she imagine, her innocent happiness was about to turn into the biggest nightmare she could ever dream of.

Her grip loosened and her bag dropped, scattering the vegetables down on the ground, creating a mess. She stood like a rock, her eyes widening in disbelief. Unable to utter a single word out, she forgot to breathe for a moment.

Right in front of her eyes, on the giant red velvet couch of the living room they had bought together, Felix was laid down with a young, good-looking blonde-haired woman wrapped in his arms.

When they realized the unexpected drenched guest suddenly barging inside the room, both of them were jaw-dropped in shock as if they had witnessed a ghost!

Almost naked, wearing nothing but only their undergarments, the wine glasses plopped down from their hands and immediately shattered into pieces. As they both jolted up from the couch in that shocked state, the woman screamed aloud in panic and ran inside the bedroom, probably to grab her clothes.

The room was supposed to be Amelia and Felix's room!

Quickly grabbing a towel lying nearby, Felix wrapped it around his waist as his last attempt to save himself from the blow of shock and unexpected embarrassment at that late hour.

Amelia stood like a lifeless statue, her face deathly pale. Unknowingly, tears started streaming down her soft cheeks with her dreary gaze wholly focused on his bashful face.

“H-Hey, wh…why did you come here at such a late hour? I…I mean…isn’t it raining outside? W-Why are you here?” Quickly Felix walked a few steps closer and pathetically tried to counter-question in a stuttering, heavy voice.

Amelia felt that she was going through a horrible nightmare.

Slowly, she pinched her own arm, and feeling the painful sensation, she realized that it was a horrific reality she was confronting the night before her 23rd birthday. A severe ache rose inside her heart as she stood still gawking at him.

But watching her growing completely silent, the palpitations were increasing severely inside him. Impatiently, he walked a step forward and tried to grab one of her soft arms.

“Hey, why aren’t you responding to me? Why are you standing like a statue? At least answer me–”

SWOOSH!

Like a jolt of flash, she shoved his arm away the moment he tried to hold her. With immense bitterness and pain in her teary ocean eyes, she grumbled at him, “Do-Don’t touch me!”

“Wh-What? Amelia, listen to me first–”

“Don’t call my name from your filthy mouth, you BASTARD!!” Immediately, her patience crossed every limit of endurance as she screamed fiercely at him, causing a strong echo inside the room.

Watching her furious state, Felix couldn’t stop approaching her and gulped, looking very anxious. After a small pause, he continued, “l-look Amelia, I know you are angry–”

“Angry!?” A small painful smile carved on her face as she countered at him. “This was supposed to be our home, wasn’t it? I gave up my entire savings to help you buy our new home so that you can fool around here with another woman? How can you defend yourself after this? Aren’t you even ashamed?”

“Amelia—”

“Ha-Have you been cheating on me for a long time? Was that why we never had a fight in our two years of relationship? You were also taking advantage of my kindness too, weren’t you? Did you ever love me, Felix!?”

“No, listen to me at least–”

“ENOUGH!!” she screamed, interrupting his sentence in the middle. “I…I have had enough already… I…disgust…Hic…” Unable to complete her sentence while sobbing in pain and angst, Amelia opened the door and dashed out like a stormy blaze slamming the door hard.

“AMELIA! WAIT! SHIT…What am I gonna do? I can’t let her go!” Felix stroked his hair bangs above his forehead, looking extremely apprehensive from his expression.

Thunder and lightning crackled above her head in the skies as the rain continued to pour.

Amidst the intense downpour and grumbling noises of dark clouds, Amelia was running aimlessly after rushing out of his home, straight towards the giant highway.

She had turned into a complete mess of pain and anguish, facing such a bitter consequence of her innocent kindness. Getting completely soaked in the rain, her agonizing tears were mixed up with rainwater.

Amelia cursed at her bitter fate. “Why? I did everything for him…and…he…ugh…It hurts! What did I ever do wrong to deserve all this? Hic…Why?”

Too lost in hurt, she hadn’t even noticed the sound of beeping car horns coming from a distance.

While running aimlessly, Amelia didn’t realize that she had already reached the highway where two gleaming yellowish car-head light was approaching her speedily until it was too late.

Amidst the rain, her feet unknowingly froze in horror as she held her breath with a gasp, watching the sleek black car honking aggressively with a gap of less than a meter between them.

Time seemed to slow down but Amelia couldn’t move. All she could do was watch.

“Felix cheated on me…and now…this car…” Her quivering voice broke before she could utter the sentence completely.

The headlights of the car approaching her became glaring as it reached her. She closed her tear-soaked eyes holding a throbbing petrified heart before facing the horrific destiny.

“Why was I even born with such a futile life—”

Before she murmured her words, the clash of the hard metal car front hitting her soft flesh resounded a terrible screeching echo in the air, indicating a violent crash.
