Chapter 19: SP5: Gary VS Misty

After a long journey Gary finally reached Cerulean City. Garry was tired but he had a smirk full of arrogance and satisfaction on his face. From the 4 trainers that started together from Pallet Town, he was by far, the fastest to reach this City. One more reason for his arrogance was the growth of his Pokemon.

His Wartortle was the star of his team. After he exited Mt. Moon, Garry met two Karate masters training with their Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. This two fighters were training there every day and if a trainer exited Mt. Moon and payed a visit at them, the Karate master with the Hitmonchan was willing to teach the Mega Punch Move to one single Pokemon of that trainer. While the other one with the Hitmonlee was willing to teach the Mega Kick Move also to one single Pokemon. This two Moves were essential for his Water Type Wartortle to be able to defeat Misty's Water Types.

On that note his Abra was growing fast as well. The probability of Abra evolving soon was actually quite high. In Mt. Moon he also met a crazy researcher. They had a betting battle and Garry managed to defeat him and get a one use Thunder Punch TM from that researcher. He immediately taught this Move to his Abra. This improvements made him sure of himself, even though he was moving quite fast through Kanto. That he was totally ready for this Gym.

In his view from the hill he was standing a huge city could be seen. A huge river passed through this City and was leading towards the sea.

From a garden near the north west shore of Cerulean City was the opening of a huge cave. This cave was blocked by some huge metallic doors and near the huge door were sighs that had warnings like forbidden area, extreme danger, Death, Fatal danger, ech. In the North part of the City a huge wooden bridge was connecting Cerulean City with Route 24 and 25. This path led towards the most famous area of Cerulean City. The Cerulean Cape. The most famous dating spot in all of the Kanto region. This bridge even though it was made of wood it looked like an exquisite pice of art. in the eastern part of the City the Cerulean Gym was located and next to it was a path towards Route 9 that lead towards Rock Tunnel and the Abandoned Power Plant. If someone went south he would reach Route 5 that lead towards Vermilion City.

Garry went straight to the Pokemon Center to heal his Pokemon and rest for a bit. At noon he left the Pokemon Center and went straight to the Gym of Cerulean City to challenge Misty. The Gym looked like a huge football stadium with different Water Type Pokemon and mermaids painted on the walls of it. Inside the first thing Garry saw was the reception room.

Garry gave his info to the receptionist and since there was no challenger, show or a Swimming competition the receptionist took Garry to the waiting room and after she communicated with the Gym Leader Misty, she informed Garry to prepare for a 3vs3 single battle match. Garry waited for 10 minutes for the Gym Leader to get ready and afterwards, he was lead towards the arena. Inside there were many pools for different activities and on the center was a huge pool with some metallic platforms on top of it. This platforms were for Pokémon that can't fight in the Water.

Garry stood on his corner and on the opposite corner stood a huge azure podium with a huge white number 1 painted on in. On top of the No.1 podium stood a young woman with short honey orange hair, wearing white slippers and a white with some blue lines woman's one-piece swimsuit.

MISTY: Hi! You're a new face! What's your policy on Pokémon? What's your approach? My policy for battle is... an all-out offensive with Water-type Pokémon! Misty, the world-famous beauty, is your host! My sweet Pokémon are ready! Are you?

Misty spoke in so mach excitement. She was 19 years old this year and she was interested in cool looking guys. Her challenger even though a bit young fit her criteria perfectly. So if she called dibs right now in a few years. he would be perfectly fine. After all she was searching for a boyfriend for quite some time now. Her favourite spot in Cerulean City was the Cerulean Cape. She always spend time there searching for a boyfriend but with no luck.

Garry was a bit shocked at the torrent of words she said in one breath. Because of that, he was a bit late at responding to her.

GARRY: I am Garry Oak from Pallet Town and i am always ready for battle.

MISTY: Ok then since you are ready, let's begin.

Then both trainers realised their Pokemon. Garry first Pokemon was a Spearow, while Misty started with a Poliwag. Then the battle immediately began.

GARRY: Spearow use Focus Energy.

MISTY: Poliwag use Rain Dance.

Then inside the arena huge black clouds appeared and a huge rain graced this battle. Spearow instead was enveloped by a strange aura.

GARRY: Spearow use Aerial Ace.

MISTY: Poliwag use Water Pulse.

Then Spearow before Spearow could move Poliwag disappeared from its spot and appeared behind Spearow. Then the stab boosted by the rain Water Pulse hit the Spearow for a lot of damage. While Spearow was free falling from the air it suddenly restored it's ballance and used it's Aerial Ace to hit with a critical hit Misty's Poliwag.

MISTY: Poliwag Hypnosis.

GARRY: Spearow Quick Attack.

Then Spearow thanks to Quick Attack managed to hit the Poliwag first for a critical hit again knocking out the Poliwag.

MISTY: Return Poliwag. Come on out Gyarados.

Then a huge Gyarados appeared shocking Garry by how cool and awesome this Pokemon looked like. Gyarados Intimidate Ability then lowered Spearow's Atk by 1 stage

GARRY: Spearow use Quick Attack.

MISTY: Gyarados use Water Pulse.

Then Spearow hit Gyarados with its Quick Attack Move while dodging the Water Pulse

MISTY: Tackle Gyarados.

GARRY: Spearow use Aerial Ace.

Then Spearow hit Gyarados with it's Aerial Ace Move but Gyarados Tackle hit the Spearow knocking it back. Then Spearow smashed into one of the Platforms and fainted. Garry returned it to its Pokeball.

GARRY: Ok then. Face my ACE.

Then Garry called his Wartortle.

GARRY: Wartortle use Withdraw.

MISTY: Gyarados use Tackle.

Wartortle endeared its shell increasing its Def by one stage while Gyarados hit it with its Tackle Move knocking the Shell back.

GARRY: Wartortle Withdraw again.

MISTY: Tackle Gyarados again.

Then the same exchange as before happened again. After that exchange the rain stoped completely and the black clouds dissipated.

" Now that i doubled Wartortle's Def stat i can go full offence."

GARRY: Wartortle use Mega Punch.

MISTY: Use Bite Gyarados.

Wartortle fist glowed with white light. Gyarados bit Wartortle and Wartortle counter attacked with its Mega Punch Move hiting the head of Gyarados.

GARRY: Wartortle use Mega Kick.

MISTY: Gyarados dodge and use Water Pulse.

Gyarados managed to avoid Wartortle Mega Kick and knocked back Wartortle with its Water Pulse Move. luckily for Wartortle Water Pulse's 20% chance of inflicting the confuse status to the target didn't trigger.

GARRY: Wartortle Mega Kick.

Wartortle immediately swam fast towards Gyarados and Kicked it hard sending it backwards.

GARRY: Ok. Wartortle use Mega Punch.

Wartortle's fist was enveloped by a white aura and it moved fast towards Gyarados. But Misty had other plans. She waited for a bit and then ordered her Gyarados.

MISTY: Gyarados Dragon Pulse.

GARRY: WHAAAAAT?

Garry was shocked. After the +2 Def, she still used physical Moves and the resisted Water Type Water Pulse. So from were did this Dragon Pulse appeared.

Before Wartortle could reach Gyarados It was hit by an azure energy ball full of draconic energy. Wartortle was knocked backwards and smashed on the wall of the pool. This Dragon Pulse also hit for critical damage knocking out the Wartortle immediately.

" Impossible. How did this happen. Me the future champion am in a really bad situation in my second Gym challenge????"

Garry couldn't believe what had just happened. His Ace in the hole was defeated and he was in a 1vs2 situation.

MISTY: Did you like my trick?.

Misty teased Garry with a playful and alluring look on her face. Misty didn't wait for her opponent to answer.

MISTY: I only dealt enough damage so i could take you by suprise with this move i hidden.

GARRY: Tch. Return Wartortle. Go Abra

Garry returned Wartortle into its Pokeball and called his Abra out.

MISTY: Gyarados use Rain Dance.

Garry smirked at that order.

GARRY: Abra Teleport then Thunder Punch.

Then Gyarados started moving and black clouds appeared in the arena but out of the blue Abra appeared infront of Gyarados out of nowhere with its right fist enveloped in electricity. Then Abra punched Gyarados hard sending it down with a huge splash, as the upper body of Gyarados landed on the water. This quadruple effective Move, plus the previous hits Gyarados received were more than enough to defeat it. Luckily for Misty, Gyarados had succeeded using its Rain Dance. Before it fainted.

MISTY: Amazing job Gyarados. You deserve a well earned rest. Go Sta...

But before Misty realised her next and final Pokemon. Garry's Abra was enveloped by a blinding white light. Then it's shape started changing very fast and when the light dissipated in the place of Abra stood a Kadabra.

MISTY: Quite impressive it evolved during the battle.

GARRY: Great job Abra. No. Kadabra.

Garry was really relived now. He managed to make the battle turn into a 1vs1 and his Abra not only it didn't take any damage but it also evolved into a Kadabra.

Misty then called her Ace Starmie on the field and the battle resumed.

MISTY: Starmie use Signal Beam.

GARRY: Teleport Kadabra then Psywave.

Starmie lunched a ray of neon red and green colours. Kadabra avoided this attack by using Teleport and appearing 25 meters behind Starmie. Then a wave of psychic energy hit the back of Starmie for 83% of its LV as damage.

GARRY: Kadabra use Disable.

MISTY: Starmie use Signal Beam again.

Kadabra was able to move faster because its Psywave knocked back for a bit the Starmie disabling Starmie's Signal Beam.

Garry breathed heavily in relaxation realising that he managed to negate one of the most fatal Moves in his challenge.

MISTY: Starmie Swift

GARRY: Teleport then Psywave.

Kadabra teleported the last moment avoiding Swift. and appearing 11 meters to the left of Starmie and used Psywave again but for 149% of its LV as damage this time. Then as the Starmie was pushed back the energy stars of its Swift move turned back and hit Kadabra.

MISTY: Recover Starmie.

GARRY: Kadabra Psywave.

Then white particles of energy entered Starmie's body healing it by 50% of its max HP while Kadabra's Psywave hit for 72% this time.

"Damnit she is buying time for Signal Beam."

Garry started to grow a bit anxious for this battle.

GARRY: Kadabra Teleport then Psywave.

MISTY: Starmie Water Gun.

Kadabra avoided Starmie's Rain boosted Water Gun by an inch and it reappeared 12 meters to the right of Starmie. This time its Psywave dealt 137% damage.

MISTY: Starmie use Recover.

GARRY: Kadabra use Thunder Punch.

Then Starmie started recovering its health again while Kadabra gone close to it and hit it for super effective damage with its Thunder Punch. Luckily for Starmie it wasn't paralysed. Then after that the rain stoped again and the Black clouds dissipated.

GARRY: Kadabra Psywave.

MISTY: Starmie Water Gun.

Both Kadabra and Starmie traded hits. Psywave dealt 143% damage this time. Then afterwards some weird aura left Starmie's body leading to a huge smirk from Misty. Kadabra was panting.

MISTY: Starmie Signal Beam.

GARRY: KADABRA TELEPORT THEN THUNDER PUNCH.

Garry screamed full of worry. His hart felt that at any moment it would fly out of his body at the speed of a Ninjask.

Starmie lunched Its Signal Beam Kadabra got hit a little bit in its left leg before it teleported away. Then it reappeared infront of Starmie and hit it with its Thunder Punch defeating the Starmie.

[AUTHORS NOTE: For those of you wondering i literally wrote this Psywave slugfest of a battle using the Damage Calculator on Smogon. Before the final confrontation Kadabra had 7/47 HP (15%) while Starmie had 15/67 HP (22%). A LV 18 Kadabra with neutral Atk Thunder Punch deals

17,9%-23,8% damage to a LV 23 Starmie].

MISTY: You fought well Starmie you deserve some rest.

Then misty returned Starmie into its Pokeball. Garry's Kadabra was barely able to stand ,so he also returned his Kadabra back as well. Misty then took Garry to the treatment room of the Gym To heal their Pokemon. As they were waiting.

MISTY: Congratulations on your win. Here's the Cascade Badge of Cerulean City. Also you can receive a total of 18000 Pokedolars. And one final thing You can ether receive 1 unbreakable Water Pulse TM or 1 Carbos Vitamin. Witch one do you choose?

GARRY: I choose .....

MISTY: I am kidding. I liked our battle quite a bit, i will give you both of them.

GARRY: Thanks.

Garry was down psychologically.

MISTY: If you like and are free. Pay me a visit at 20:00 o'clock today at my Gym. I will take you to a very special place and have my Blastoise teach something special to your Wartortle. he he.

GARRY: Thank you very much. But i will go to the Pokemon Center to call my family about my journey.

MISTY: Sure. See you soon.

Misty said goodbye to Garry with a little blush on her face.

Garry left the Gym and as he was a bit away he punched a wall with the side of his right fist.

" Shit. How pathetic. This was only my second Gym battle and i almost blew it."

Garry touched his forehead with his right arm.

" Wake up you idiot. How can you become the Best trainer, if for a simple second Gym challenge you almost fail."

Garry was actually ridiculing himself in third person.

" Ooof. Ok. I should better slow down my traveling pace a bit to be sure my Pokemon are stronger. Then i should use this chance with Misty to get even stronger. Also, after i finish i will go towards Route 9 and visit the Power Plant to get my next team member."

Garry thought of his future plans and went into the Pokemon Center. After he spoke with his Parents and grandfather he went into one of the trainers rooms to have a bath, Taught Water Pulse to his Wartortle and he prepared to meet Misty.
