Isabelle Baudelaire's point of view

➵➵➵

HOW DID WE WENT FROM kissing like horny cats, to almost, literally, killing each other and using our traumas against us? I don't know. It all happened so damn fast, I'm still shocked.

Dimitri went from 100 to 0 in a second. I just voiced my worries because they were real, and could have happened. What would have happened if his parents had come in just some minutes earlier?

We would be fucking screwed!

The worse is that, this time, he really hurt me. And I'm not just talking about the fact that he truly dared to hurt me with my dagger, but I mean the emotional damage. Mentioning my mother and how I wasn't able to grow up with her after she died was a low and dirty move from him. He did it intending to harm me exactly where he knows it hurts the most.

All the fire and attraction I was feeling minutes ago, died the moment those words came from his mouth. I felt terrible. I felt sick. Dirty for having kissed him like that.

It was my first kiss, as you must have realized, and it was with him of all people. How dumb could I have been? Letting my enemy get this close to me and even get intimate with him… I can't even complain about him because I also did something I shouldn't have. It was stupid from me to let myself be controlled by my hormones and impulsively kiss him back.

When I should have pushed him and slapped his face. That jerk… after kissing me for what seemed like an hour, he really dared to say all of that shit to me! Spitting in the plate he ate, what a shit move even for him.

But what was I expecting? We had both stated very loudly how we hate each other and wanted to kill one another! And although I never thought he would actually do anything that could harm me or threaten my life, I have to confess that this was my mistake.

It was wrong of me to have underestimated him. Just because I would never actually kill or attempt to do so, besides all of my threats, it doesn't mean he was the same. After all, if he had just deepened a little bit the cut in my neck, I would be a corpse by now.

Gulping, I put my wounded hand on my neck, drying the line of blood with the bandages I had put on my hand, under the gloves I was wearing. Then my eyes turned to Jade, "Thank you for startling us, babe. If it wasn't for you, we would probably have kissed for longer, his parents would show up, and put me in a big trouble," sigh. "Mommy was dumb," I fell on the ground, resting my back on one of the mango trees in the outdoor garden. "How could he actually try to kill me after we kissed?" I covered my face with my hands, feeling the tears fall down again. "He must have lost it. Insane bastard!"

Jade came closer, rubbing her back on my legs, and laying down in front of me. I took a deep breath and passed my hands on her fur, caressing her.

"Forgive mommy's stupidity, babe. I swear I won't interact with any members of Houses Delacroix and Carpentier anymore. Not after today," sigh. "I should be angry, shouldn't I? But I can't even help myself with feeling disappointed. What was I expecting?" I asked myself again. "I won't go easy on him ever again if he tries to get any closer to me. And I'll never forgive him for this… Never!" I exclaimed, looking at nothing, allowing the tears to fall down just for now.

When I woke up the next morning, I was laying on my bed, which was strange once I'm sure I fell asleep in the outdoor garden with Jade. Blinking, I tried to adjust my eyesight and when I looked at the chair on the right side of my bed, I saw Cédric there. Concern all over his face.

"Conscious already?"

"Unfortunately, yes," I muttered.

"I told you not to drink too much, yesterday," there he goes, scolding me right when I wake up.

I arched my eyebrows, not remembering drinking more than four glasses of champagne, which, with my high tolerance to it didn't seem much. "I don't think I drank enough alcohol yesterday to blackout!"

He scoffed, "I won't discuss that with you. You are lucky I was the one who found you unconscious in the garden with Jade, or people might have badmouthed you more than they already do," not like I care. "At least you got drunk outside the ballroom, and didn't cause a fuss with anyone!"

"I wouldn't say that," I mumbled and he gave me a stern look.

"Except the Delacroix Duke, of course," he threw the Desmoulins' newspaper at my lap. "You two are the talk of the capital!"

Sighing, I looked down and saw a portrait of me and him glaring at each other while dancing in the cover of the newspaper, "What a headache!"

Duke Dimitri Carpentier Delacroix & Countess Isabelle Delannoy Baudelaire, hatred or bottled up love?

According to the nobles present in the masquerade ball held by Duke Florentin Baudelaire and the retired diamond Duchess Genevieve Delacroix at the Baudelaire manor here in Desmoulins, the youngest daughter of Duke Florentin and the only son of the retired Duchess were seen together for the majority of the ball.

While most claim that they seemed attracted to each other and could probably be courting one another in a not-that-well-kept secret; other nobles, who were around the two while they danced four songs together, claimed to have heard the two bickering and threatening each other's lives, while pretending to be in good waters.

However, all of them claim to have seen a very amusing scene in the hottest ball of the winter season until now; While Princess Isabelle was dancing with Lord Gilles Reverdin, and Prince Dimitri was dancing with Lady Raphaëlle Delafose, they kept staring at each other's faces intensely. Later on the same dance, since it was the famous switching ball dance, they had purposely danced across each other, just so they could dance together at the switch time. And when they did, the witnesses claimed to have heard Prince Dimitri being rude to Lord Reverdin as he told him to release the Princess.

And it gets more exciting, dear citizens, as before the dance even ended, a pissed off Duke Dimitri held the Countess by her hand abruptly and took her away from the crowded ballroom. No one saw them again for about an entire hour, and when the Prince's parents went after him, they got back shaken, and the Duke himself seemed out of it, with a messy appearance, and a pair of daggers in his hands, that had been previously seen with Countess Isabelle Baudelaire, in other balls.

Regarding the Princess, some nobles said to have seen her in the back of the manor, alone, with some blood in her hand and neck, and later seen her being carried inside of the arms of her aide, Lord Cédric Desormeaux. Others also told me to have noticed that both the Prince had swollen lips when he entered the ballroom, as the Princess also had when she was being carried inside. But we can't be sure of anything, we can only discuss the possibilities.

What could have happened to the two nobles of the two biggest noble Houses in the Kingdom?

Could they have been fighting and attempting to actually kill each other? Could they have been given each other to their passionate secret love? Could it be both? None?

We can't deny the fact that the Delacroix Duke has a fame of being ruthless towards his enemies, right? As we can't also ignore the savagery and aggressiveness that the Baudelaire Countess has shown previously. It wouldn't be a surprise if both had actually being trying to kill each other inside the manor.

After all, as previously said in this trustworthy newspaper, we have witnesses that have seen the daughter of Duke Baudelaire and the son of Marquis Carpentier bickering and threatening each other lives every time they crossed paths during Duke Dimitri's stead in the Baudelaire's manor.

Again, we aren't sure of it.

Perhaps, in the near future, could we see a marriage unfolding between Houses Baudelaire and Delacroix? It's not a secret to anyone that the retired Duchess Genevieve Delacroix and diseased late Duchess Adelaide Baudelaire were best friends since childhood. Maybe the masquerade ball the two houses threw together was even an event to show nobility that they would join each other in the future.

But conflicts aside, one thing is for sure! Besides her famous bad temper, Princess Isabelle Delannoy Baudelaire was undoubtedly the most beautiful Lady in the masquerade ball. Causing lots of Ladies to be envious and enchanting lots of gentlemen with her intoxicating beauty.

At the same time as, not surprisingly, Prince Dimitri Carpentier Delacroix was also the gentleman with the most dazzling beauty in the event. Making the Lords interested in Countess Baudelaire's beauty envious, and the Ladies swoon while dreaming of marrying him one day.

After yesterday's ball, I'm sure you all must agree with me that the hottest and most precious diamond of the winter season will be Countess Isabelle Baudelaire.

Oh, and important news!

I received first hand the news that both the Countess and the Duke are officially looking for a partner to get married. Let the hunt begin. After all, at the end of the season, House Baudelaire and House Delacroix both might have a new member, and who is their right mind wouldn't dream of such a thing?

Personally, I confess I'm surprised that Countess Isabelle Baudelaire is finally letting her terrible personality and temper aside and deciding to take a husband. Who could have thought? But it's a present for the single Lords, isn't it? Her aggressiveness aside, she is indeed a clever Lady, owner of great beauty, isn't she? And she's still 22, and young, in a great age to marry and have children.

Now, coming from Duke Dimitri Delacroix, I'm also surprise, I won't lie! He's 26 years old, and the most wanted noble in the Kingdom, with outstanding beauty, intelligence, status, connections, strength, and money. But it's not a secret that he refused to get marry before and let down lots of proposals until now.

However, I can't help but wonder if the fact that both these unwilling diamonds deciding to get married at the same time might be connected! Could they be giving our single citizens hope just to take it from them and marry each other?

Could they become the new Marquis Olivier Carpentier and Duchess Genevieve Delacroix?

Let's just hope the same scandal won't happen again and the Princess isn't secretly pregnant with the Duke's child, while he intends to marry a total different person, right? Would it be surprising if he committed the same mistake as his parents? How funny would that be?

Regardless, let's pray that it doesn't happen. After all, that would mean he eternally tainted the Princess already-fragile image, just for a one night thing. Just like his dad did to his mother!

How shameless would that be?

But let's not get impulsive in our predictions and assumptions, alright? We still have one more news.

Marquis Mathis Baudelaire is also after marriage. And it seems like the Prince already has a mysterious noble Lady in his heart. Yes, I'm also surprised, dear citizens.

Who could have thought that Marquis Mathis Delannoy Baudelaire would fall in love and want to get married? It seems like something really interesting is going on with the Baudelaire's youngest children, don't you agree? First Princess Isabelle, and now Prince Mathis!

I think you all are like me, waiting anxiously for the day the precious Heir Apparent, Prince Adrien Baudelaire will finally announce that he's after a wife. Because if there's a gentleman who's almost as wanted as Duke Delacroix, that someone is Prince Adrien Baudelaire, don't you agree?

I gasped in shock. In a moment of anger, growled, and teared the damn newspaper apart. Breathing with difficulty in pure anger, I glared at Cédric, "I want the head of the person who wrote this shit!" I exclaimed through clenched teeth. "Can we avoid this shitty thing from spreading?"

He seemed apologetic, almost pitiful, "It took you too long to wake up, it's already 3 pm, it's already been read by the entire Capital!"

"Has everyone read this? My dad? My brothers? All of them?" I felt suddenly anxious.

"Yes…"

"What did they said?"

"Nothing!" What?

"They said nothing?"

He nodded. "After reading they screamed in anger and left the manor, probably to go after the people who wrote the newspaper!"

I grinned, "That won't do. Having them deal with the assholes who wrote this piece of garbage isn't enough! I want to go there and show him how he shouldn't have messed with me," I jumped from my bed.

"But you don't…" I raised my hand, stopping him.

"I may be against killing, but I don't mind torture," with a mischievous grin, I glared at the tired pieces of paper on the ground. "He can't go unscathed after humiliating me publicly like this! Thanks to his own mistake of messing with House Baudelaire, not even the King or his offspring will be able to stop us from retaliating!"
