Chapter 29: The Grinder of Friendship

For a good period of time, I hold Boo in my embrace. With this gesture, I wanted to show her my sincere feelings and desire to help her.

When we let each other go, I took a step back, looking at Boo's black crystal eyes.

"Lead the way. I will make sure your home is saved from those monsters." I put on a confident smile, showing Boo that her problem will be resolved with no difficulties.

"Again. Thank you...What's your name?" Boo seemed pretty embarrassed about not asking for my name before.

I laughed and answered "Alexander."

"Thank you, Alexander." Boo still kept her embarrassed state, even after learning my name. Something so simple as not asking for it, made her behave like this.

(She's too nice for her own good.)

"You don't have anything to thank me for, yet. I still need to recover your home." To bring Boo out of this state, I decided to change out conversation to its previous topic.

"Of course. Come this way." Without further a do, Boo started heading in the direction she pointed at when I asked about her home.

This is when I wanted to followe her, but one thing prevented me from doing so. I recieved a notification from my system, one about a new Quest. It surprised me, as the last time I got a Quest was quite a while ago.

[Quest: Home full of dangers

I stood still, reading the whole quest. Informations in it didn't provide me with more details about the potential dangers I could encounter there, but the reward for completing it was a nice bonus.

"Alexander. Are you okay?"Just when I finished reading my new quest, I hear Boo's concerned voice coming from the front of me.

For her, I suddenly stood still and stared on the ground. She probably thought I was reconsidering helping her, because what else could I possibly be doing standing still.

"I thought I heard a sound, but it seems like it's not the case. Let's continue traveling to your home." I quickly caught up to her, showing my determination to fulfil her request.

"O-Ok." Boo wasn't convinced by my explanation, but decided to lead the way regardless.

We moved up the stream, with sound of running water in the background. This sound as well, as nauture around us, let me appriciate its beauty. I spent so much time in this world, but I amlost never explored it for its scinery. I was too focused on other things, like fighting and surviving.

The forest I appeared in when I entered this world, was unaffected by humans. All the trees, grass and plants that were unique to this forest, showed no sign of human activity.

It was simply nature, in its purrest form. Deprived of any problems, or bothersome thoughs that I had to deal with my whole life. It even made me reccal my home country, before I got trasmigtated to Alexander's body.

The place I lived in had a lot of forest around it, and as a kid I liked to explore every inch of them. It was a way to escape from reality.

Reminiscing about my past brought a lot of feelings, which made me walk in complete silence. Boo never said anything to me and when I looked at her, I saw her in a similar state to mine. (After all, this forest is her home.)

"It's near." When Boo said it, I realized that the stream next to us flew faster. I suspected we were near it source.

I turned in the direction of her gaze and noticed a hole in a mountainside. It was the entrance to Boo's home and I marched towards it, not caring about being silent.

"What are you doing? It's dangerous." Boo yelled at me with distressed tone. It sounded like she wanted me to cautios, but I knew that no matter how many zombies were inside, I will be able to deal with them.

I took couple of steps, when I heard something crack under my foot. Not knowing what it was, I looked down and saw animal bones.

(Rabbit skeleton?)

"Mr. Fluffy?" I don't know how Boo did it, but she recognized the owner of this pile of bones. And her voice, her sad voice lingered in my ears.

"Your friend?" I think I knew the answer when I heard her tone, but I didn't want to believe it. I hopped my guess was incorrect and maybe Boo hated Mr. Fluffy. (As impossible, as it's for her.)

I moved my foot from this pile of bones, making sure I won't break them anymore. And when I expected an answer from Boo, in response I got her falling down to her knees. She slowly reached her tremblins arms forward and picked up Mr. Fluffy's reamins.

They were so little in her big rock hands, but the care she used to examine them was comparable to a mother looking after her child.

"Mr. Fluffy? Why aren't you moving? You always loved to hop around me, especially when I first discovered this place." Boo moved her left hand and gently pocked at Mr. Fluffy's bones."Other animals didn't want to approach me, they thought I would hurt them. But you were different, you just hopped up to my body and placed yourself against my leg, not carring about my size."

"Boo..." It was like my words never reached her, she just continued her monolog.

"I always wanted be like you. You know? Brave, ready to face your fears when others don't..B...But I disappointed you. You died because of me...It should have been me."

While looking at this scene, I learned a new thing about rock golems. They can't cry, because if they did, Boo would have drowned in her tears. I was sure that each of her words contained more tears, then I shed in my entire life.

(What a heartbreaking scene.) With this thought in mind, my blood started boiling. I was so angry at those undeads for hurting Boo, and even more angry at the Necromancer that summoned them.

I turned to the entrance again and this time I didn't stop, until I reached it.

"Come out. You will pay for the sins of your master." I yelled straight into the cave, letting my words echo throughout its interior. They became a symbol of my wrath.

Soon, like my yell, enemies footsteps started eoching inside the cave. All the undeads that hid there, awaken and had on goal while moving to the entrance. They wanted to taste my warm blood and flesh.

"Faster, you rotted monsters! Judgment came." I hopped at least some of them had enough intelligence to understand what I just said. I wanted them to hear, how much I despise them.

(There they're.) Some of the footsteps became faster and soon enough, I saw couple of zombies emerging from the darkness, they disgusting figures rushing at me with their full speed.

Distance between us shorten with each second, but I just stood in place, motionless.

My next and only move happened when they reached the entrance. I clenched my fist with huge amount of force.

"This battlefield is my domain."

Suddenly spikes made out of stone appeared on every surface inside the cave and penetrated the zombies infront, killing them instantly. They stood no chance against my earth magic.

I continued this process, making spikes move back and forth, creating a meet grinder that turned their bodies into a bloody mess. None of their body parts survived my wrath, be it heads, or torsos.

River of zombie blood started flowing, just like the stream we followed to get here. It painted each wall in a deep red color and all the grass around the entrance.

But, their lives still declined slower than my mana, which worked as a fuel for this meat grinder.

"Finally." Even if my mana pool was big enough to sustain this slaughter, it doesn't mean it had no effect on me. Witch each percentage of it missing, I felt more exhausted.

I used the same amount of my mana in the past, but not in this way, I felt like I overused it. My body being the best proof, draining of my mana took a toll on it, making my every muscle sore.

"Well, at least the reward will cheer me up." I smiled thinking about my next purchases in the store.

I opened my Quest tab and saw a unexpected result. Next to [Home full of dangers] a tag (Incomplete) was present.

With my happy state, ruined. I again yelled into the cave. "Which fucker didn't answer to my previous call?"

This time only one pair of footsteps rang out from inisde the cave. They were huge and made as much sound, as a whole horde of zombies did. And to accompany them, a soud of metal being dragged along the stone floor let me know the distance that seperated this monster from the entrance.

I stared deep into the darkness mixed with the bloody red, when the sound of metal, turned into sparks near the cave floor. They slightly lit cave's interior, letting me see a huge metal axe.
