Chapter 29: Chapter 28: Being Harmless Can Lead To Great Suffering

"Are they gone?" Unexpectedly, a deep and scared voice rang out next to my location. It came from the stream, not far away from this clearing.

I gazed in that direction and noticed what looked like....

(A rock golem?)

Those were the first words that come to mind, when I saw the owner of this fearful voice. He was crounched down behind a tree, semingly wanting to hide behind it, but his big size prevented him from achieving it in the sligtest. His body consisted of accumulated different shaped rocks, which were covered in gren moss. His eyes made of what looks like black crystal, showed fear.

They didn't go in pair with his big figure that could scare off any potential enemies. Anatomy of this race greately variated from human and this born a question, 'How did they come in to existance?'. I suspected that mana took a huge part in creation of rock golems, but it seemed obvious.

While looking at this golem, I didn't feel like he posted any threat to me. His body language screamed 'Please don't hurt me'. I found it weird and decided to spoke to him.

"They're gone, I killed them."

"You killed them? Really? Can you help me then?" It wasn't reaction I expected. I thought that when I said I killed them, he will see me as a danger, but it didn't happen.

His eyes changed from fear, to hope. A hope of me accepting his request.

I narrowed my eyes, not sure of his demeanor. "Help in what?"

"Those creatures occupied Boo's home. And after seeing you deal with them, I would like to ask you for help." His tone sounded like a innocent child, with no bad intentions. He just wanted to regain his home.

"Looking at your size, I don't think you need my help." I stopped for a moment, correcting my statement. "I even think you can do a better job, than me."

"Boo don't like vo-violence." He hesitated to say the last word.

"Why?" I guessed it had something to do with his race, but his answer surprised me.

"I don't want to hurt anybody!... Boo isn't like that!" He sounded like he wanted to prove his not violent character to me. Like he was frightened that I could think otherwise.

(Is he lying?) I didn't know if I can believe him, but I knew something I could, a skill that almost never disappoints me.

(Only my interaction with Merchant showed me that, I can't depend on it each time.)

Like before with Merchant, a window appeared in front of me. Full this time, not lacking any details.

- Rock Golems are descendants of mother earth Gaia. She blessed them with pure souls and natural affinity to nature. They can communicate with any animal, or plants themselves. They are often protectors of forests and beings iniside them.

Description:

Boo is an unsual rock golem. She is friendly to everyone, no matter who she encounters. From a young age Boo was different from her peers, usually rock golems are calm race minding their own business, but when provoked they are ruthless. Boo on the other hand don't like conflicts, she's shy and can easily get scared even when she faces enemies weaker than her. She doesn't like violence and just wants to have friends. This approach unfortunately made Boo interactions with others rock golems, difficult. They couldn't get along, as one othe the ways for rock golems to get along is grapple between each other. Boo with her only desire to have friends and an inability to do so, was left alone, all by herself. ]

"You're a female?" Boo's gender shocked me, but my mistake in recognizing her gender didn't. There was simply no indicators of her gender being anything else, than male.

Her voice had plain feeling to it. Usually you can hear someone's gender in their voice, but with Boo, I wouldn't be able to do even after speeking to her for hours. And like previously I noticed that our anatomy diffirantes, which means that Boo has no body parts showing she's a female.

"Yes. That's my gender. I know it's easy to misjudge it, I don't blame you for it." And as if reccaling a funny memorie, Boo laughed. "Sometimes our own race can't tell which gender others are."

Boo laughed and looked happy, but after reading her description and at the same time a part of her past, I was surpriesed she had any good memories accosiated with her race. (I guess her past wasn't as bad, as it looks...At least I hope so.)

Not wanting to dwelf on the past, especially not mine, I I moved on to her original request.

"Can you explain to me more about what happened? Why do you need my help to recover your home?" I wated to gain more imformations about her home and circumstances of its being take over by undead. Boo herself is harmless she won't hurt a fly, but it doesn't mean recovering her home will follow this example.

(For all I know, her home can be a new residence for a Titan Bear. And I won't bet on my odds against this matter.)

When she heard my words, Boo's eyes shone brigtly. She didn't even hesitate before explaining everything to me.

"After becoming an outcast in my race, I found a nice little cave, just next to this stream. You can't see it from here, but it lays more upsteam." Boo pointed, in what I assumed was direction of her house. "I spend my time there, rarely metting some animals I could talk to. It wasn't that bad, honestly."

Those words were possitive, her voice without a hint of saddnes, but I felt like I will cry because of them. I never was in a situation like this and didn't know how to behave. Her positivnes felt like a mask she put on, something to hide all the pain she gone through.

"I live there for...I don't even know how long. When you're alone, sometimes passage of time, disappeared." She kept her smile the whole time.

"And one day, those creatures came. They're so scary, with their lifeless eyes..They aren't creatures of nature. Gaia didn't create them. I don't know who did, but they destroied Boo's peace." It looked like this part was too hard even for Boo, as her smile dimished.

"They killed all of Boo's friends. Those innocent animals lost their lives, for no reason. They wanted to to the same to me, but mt rock body prevented them from doing so." I thought it couldn't get worse, that Boo losing her only friends, will be the worst. I couldn't be more wrong.

"I-I could have saved them. I know it...My strength is enough to kill those monsters. My friends didn't need to die, but instead of saving them, I was petrified. I watched as they got eaten alive, because of my inability to fight. It's the same as I was young." Boo's voice cracked. "I lost everything I have, because I'm weak and worthless. Others were right, I'm a mistake."

"Boo. Stop." Boo looked at me, not understanding why I interrupted her.

With her confusion clear on her face, I took a couple steps forward and wrapped my hands around her neck. I wanted to hug her closser, but my arms couldn't reach behind her back. Her big rock body, didn't let me.

"Boo, it's not your fault. Sometimes we have weaknesses that aren't easy to overcome. It can take years to work on them and to eliminate them. I know it can be hard to lose all you had, but what matters is what is in front of us. And, hey. You still have a friend." I smiled.

"Who? Monsters killed them all."

"Me, Boo. I will be your friend." I always had a limited amount of friends. It's not like I didn't get along with people, or that I was an introvert, quite the opposite actualy. But for me to call someone a friend, a real friend isn't so simple.

Boo is a type of person I can trust, even if I know her for a short period of time. Her past and her character so far, were enough to convince me to be her friend. (She's a innocent and hurt person that never had a real friend.)

"Now, Boo. Let's get rid off those monsters. They will pay a hefty price for hurting you."

"Really? You not only want to be my friend, but you will also help me?" Happiness returned to Boo's voice.

"That's what friends are for." I decided to help Boo regain her home and to make the mask of positivity she created, became a reality.
