Mona Lisa

Half drunk Lisa sat by the bar that curved at the edge of the club. She blocked out the deafening background music. The spots of different colored lights casting off the disco ball didn't distort her sight. She had her gaze fixed at the VIP section while nursing her glass of wine with black painted nails.

It was 1:47 am and she has sat there since 10 pm waiting for him. She knew he would surely turn up.

"Hello pretty lady," a mustached man slid beside her. Lisa didn't spare the man a second glance. She had had to ward off men like this since her arrival.

"Let me buy you a drink," he was fiddling with his mustache.

Lisa gulped the wine in her glass.

"I already had seven." With her back hand, she wiped her mouth and stood erect and straightened her loosely fitted gown. she had spotted him

The shunned mustached man kept twisting his mustache as he admired Lisa walk off.

She meandered her way through the dance floor; ducking when necessary until the bathroom door shut behind her, partially fading out the deafening music. But the walls still vibrated due to the threatening base.

She strode to the mirror. She was tired and it was evident in the bags that sagged under her eyes. She took a deep breath then packed her hair up. She turned to enter the stall but stopped in her tracks at the sight of vomit plastered around the sitter.

"Shit!" She stretched and closed the lid then mounted atop.

Yesterday, she came with a bag containing a black elastic dress and a few make-ups and left it in the hatch above.

The day before, she brought and left an empty black purse there.

Some weeks ago, she nurtured a relationship with Pedro, the head staff of the kitchen. One afternoon, after a wild sex with this low esteemed man, Lisa trailed her index finger on Pedro's hairy chest. "Walk me into the club today, I want people to know that I have you."

It was something he wanted to ask but always had a bloated tongue.

"Sure...sure."

Lisa drew in and pecked his cheek then slid off the bed. This low esteemed man watched her nakedness till the bathroom door was shut behind her.

Later that evening, Lisa walked next to Pedro and through the back door-in absence of the metal detector-Lisa smuggled in a 2.2 and added it to her collection in the ceiling.

Just for this day.

She retrieved the bag and skipped over the vomit then entered the next stall. She tore out her loosely fitted gown and slid on the black one. It revealed her back to inches above her butt.

She sat on the toilet and began to make up, making sure she contoured the sagging bags below her eyes. She slid on an office glasses that anchored a serious expression to her face.

She set two alarms on her phone before tucking the 2.2 into her purse. She gathered her things and threw them back into the ceiling.

Her protean mind transformed; developing a new personality. She cracked her neck then her lips tore slightly. Totally what one would breakneck for.

She tilted the knob and the loud music rushed into her ears.

Those who had eyes broke their necks. Even the bouncer became insecure when Lisa came closer. She flashed her VIP pass locked around her wrist. The bouncer didn't glance twice. He stepped aside and unhooked the stopper.

Lisa ascended the stairs, biting into her character with each step.

He sat on a white sofa craning his head like a periscope. The soft red light reflected off his diamond laced watch and pinky.

She took a deep breath, then her hills clicked inaudibly as she stepped through the aisle of white sofas.

"Lisa!" A sharp voice, barely audible over the deafening music called. A smirk tore on Lisa's face but it disappeared when she whirled around.

"Lisa right?" his eyebrows are raised. "Tell me I am not crazy. You are Liza right?"

"Yea?" she looked confused and barely shook his hand.

"Good to see you again."

"I am sorry..."

"Paul...paul."

She gave it a thoughtful crane, "Doesn't ring a bell."

"Let me buy you a drink."

She craned thoughtfully again then smiled. "Sure," Lisa tuck a lock of hair behind her ear. "At least until my friend arrives."

"Your friend?"

"Yea..."

"I guess she can adjust to me being around." Paul said emphasizing gender.

His perfume waft into her nostrils.

"Golden sand?" Lisa guessed wrongly.

"Ah, close enough," Paul smiled. "golden dust. Please sit." Lisa slid onto the leather sofa.

"Have you been to Dubai?" Paul asked.

"No... But there was this one time my office sponsored a fully covered trip to Dubai, but I caught this terrible cold." she adjusted her office glasses.

"It's an amazing place with amazing people, that's where I got the perfume. Amazing!" Paul was smiling broadly.

A busboy arrived with a tray over his shoulder. He dropped a glass of distilled water for Lisa.

"What can I get you?" the bow-tie boy asked.

"Lisa you can have anything you want."

Her stomach grumbled and she would love to have a barbequed sauced fish but she said. "Four shots of Bumbu," she turned to Paul, "I hope you would be joining me."

"Of course...of course," he assured.

"Ah," Lisa smiled innocently. "Because I hate drinking alone."

Moments later, they both laughed over a fictional story Lisa was narrating about an office that didn't exist. Formulating characters from the sea of people dancing below.

Lisa clenched her face as the last shot of Bumbu went down her throat.

"Have you tried it with a slice of mango?"

"Really?"

"Trust me it's amazing." Paul kissed the tip of his five fingers.

Lisa's phone rang. It was an alarm set within this time. She reached for it and faked a call.

"hello." "..my dog!" She jolted "ok I am coming." she killed the screen and tucked it into her bag. "I need to leave." she stood up.

"Leave?" Paul followed up. "I was about to order the mangoes.

"My neighbor said my dogs keeps barking."

"Your dog?" Paul chuckled "Stay...tell me what happened to that woman at your firm."

Lisa glanced at her watch. "truthfully, it's already 3 am...I am beginning to get aroused by sleep and if it doesn't have my consent soon it might rape me."

"That's...that's is a weird way to put it...but I like...you see? stay-"

"I am sorry paul. I have to go." she stalled for a while awaiting his theoretical response.

"Let me drive you home." Paul offered.

"Paul you don't have to stress your-"

"My driver is resting in the car" Paul interjected. "He could drive you where ever."

Because this was a pickup and unfortunately I'm the girl you met.

"Okay fine."

They descended the stairs holding hands. The bouncer pillared at the foot of the stairs couldn't still hold Lisa's gaze.

Paul always avoided public eyes or tabloid. They would write: the famous producer Paul starwright spotted at club. What is he been up to? Is he back to drugs?

The manager of the club concord and allowed Paul the luxury of using the emergency exit. They both absconded the club through the elevator with Lisa leading the way; walking through the blind spots of the club.

Inside the elevator, their fingers brushed slightly and Paul entwined their fingers with Lisa's full consent. They looked at each other and smiled.

"So tell me," Lisa looked at Paul. "what are your hobbies."

"Well... I like literature and I liked the way you described sleep a while ago." Paul said nonchalantly, his mind on the package next to him. His thumb caressing hers.

"Is that all? That's really boring and-"

"Not really, I like tennis, creating movies, golfing...

Lisa knew all these things. She knew the time and days he puts on his sprinklers. She knew about his obsession for women and also knew the brothel he frequents. And that some times, he comes to the club to look for a nightstand.

Lisa knew all these before she made her first appearance.

That enthusiastic night, Paul hopped into his disguise Camry and Lisa followed two cars behind. She recognized the bright lights and glowing billboards, knowing the one place it led to, she overtook his car and hurried into the club and awaited his arrival.

She watched him from a corner as he scaled the stairs. Always in white shoes. she smiled. She adjusted her office glasses, and with muttered Confidence, she approached the bouncer and flashed her fake VIP pass. The bouncer didn't glance twice, he stepped aside and unhooked the stopper.

Like the perfect bait served of a golden platter, she caught Paul's gaze. The first girl he spared a second glance. She was smallish...and a solid ten. Interestingly, she looked confused; Like she was stood up. Paul approached her like magnet.

"Hello," Paul slid off his hood and Lisa's gaze momentarily locked with the huge diamond ring around his pinky. "I am Paul." he stretched his hand.

"Lisa."

"Like Mona Lisa?" Paul asked suddenly pumped.

"No, just Lisa." She smiled.

"Two legends would be performing a song named 'Mona Lisa' here tonight."

"Really?" Lisa knew. "So bad I won't get to see them." She kept craning like a periscope.

"Why? Come on Lisa... I would get a good view."

"See," Lisa flashed her phone to view an incoming call. "this is my exit. My uber is here."

Paul clenched his teeth. "I wish..." he craned to the stage and back to Lisa. "I wish I could drive you home but...this," he pointed to the stage. "is very important."

"It's fine...you don't even know me." Lisa whirled and walked away. A smirk tore on her face.

Men like what they can't have. In the case of a woman, all it took was one turn down and they become an unconscious mission one's brain secretly processes. Lisa just imprinted her face in his brain without him knowing.

Lisa continued to study and follow Paul after that night up-to this moment they both hopped into a black Camry. Johnson the driver sat up at once. "Welcome sir." he said but got no reply.

"Nice disguise car," Lisa said feeling the leather sit.

Paul froze. "How did you know about my disguise car?"

"Hello, look at your chain and pinky reflecting in my eyes...a rich man in a Camry.." Lisa furrowed her brows

"I have an apartment close by," Paul held Lisa's hand. "I want to show you my paintings."

"I have to get home to get ready for work."

"Tomorrow is Sunday."

"Oh!" Lisa shook her head and massaged her temple.

"Your office must be draining."

"You can say that again."

"How about a relaxing massage." Paul wriggled his fingers in her face.

Lisa craned thoughtfully. In reality, stalling for a while before saying yes.

"But I have to see my babies."

"Babies?"

"Oh...My dogs." Lisa chuckled. "I can't leave them barking." she smiled innocently.

"That's fine. Just tell Johnson where we are going."

Lisa slightly leaned forward "1 anele close,"

Johnson typed in the address. Then stalled for a while before saying "Its a four minutes ride."

Paul smiled. "What do we do for three minutes fifty-nine seconds?"

Lisa drew in and began to kiss him. Maybe Paul was thinking too easy, but his brain had registered the mission complete.

They switched their lips for about two minutes and Paul's hand was just creeping up Lisa's chest when her phone rang. It was another alarm set in the space of this time.

Lisa tore out. "Wait I need to get this." Clingy Paul still kissed for a few seconds before Lisa shook free.

She pressed her phone to her ear and she yelled immediately.

"What?! When?!"

Paul looked perplexed and Johnson gazed through the rearview.

"What hospital?...ok... I would be there. thank you." Lisa killed her phone. "Shit!" she cursed. Fake tears clouded her eyes. "Please stop the car?"

"What's the prob-"

"Stop the car!" she wiped the tears that rolled down her cheek.

"Johnson stop the car." Paul ordered.

The tires didn't roll to a stop before Lisa shot Johnson. The 2.2 so noiseless that it sounded like one slapped the wall with a slipper.

"Mona Lisa!" Paul exclaimed.

"No, just Lisa!" she shot Paul twice, the latter to the head.

She retrieved his watch, pinky, and necklace. Then searched every pocket, even that of Johnson. She pushed Johnson and he heaped by the sidewalk. She turned around to where Paul's lifeless body laid. She pecked his hand before dragging him out.

She slid under the steering, then craned to the passenger seat where she dropped the valuables she retrieved. She picked Paul's wallet and sliced out his credit card. She captured the front and back and sent it to her contact.

Lisa took a deep breath before turning the keys. She sped off and minutes later her contact replied. She smiled broadly then hurled her phone into the night and watched from the side mirror as it cartwheeled and smacked on a pavement.
