Chapter 04
I guess they don't really believe my words... Well, it's not like I'm going to explain them about it, so let's just change the subject.
"What have you three come here to do? I'm kind of aimless at the moment and would like to explore this place a bit." - Hiro
'He's changing the subject...' - Konan, Nagato and Yahiko
"Ah, I would also like to know if there is any room left in the orphanage where they live, since I have no money with me and I don't know anything about this place."

Their faces show total confusion, did I say something wrong? I don't think it is normal for someone to come to an unknown city without having any goals or at the very least something that connects them to this place....

"We don't live in an orphanage." - Nagato
"huh? Then where do you live?" - Hiro
"Damn! How uninformed are you? You've certainly never lived in Amegakure, so what have you come to do in this dismal village?!" - Yahiko
"I don't know either... I just showed up here." - Hiro

"Eer... We don't live in an orphanage, there's not something like one around here." - Konan
"We are war orphans, that means we have to survive on our own. We can't rely on adults or ninjas... Only ourselves! Anyway!" - Yahiko.

The reality around here is much harsher than I imagined. It really will be quite difficult for a child to survive alone in a place like this... That explains why Yahiko was so angry with me when we saw each other, I would also find it suspicious if I were in the same situation...

I followed them through the city, we walked for a few minutes until we stopped near a deserted alley. I already suspected what they were going to do, but I decided to keep quiet and just let things happen. I'm not in the luxury of worrying about the means people use to stay alive, especially when it comes to orphans...
"You and Konan will distract that salesgirl while Nagato and I go behind and steal the apples, got it?" - Yahiko
We just nodded our heads in agreement and followed the plan. It wasn't something elaborate, but good enough for four kids to manage to steal food from a fat adult's shelf... She doesn't seem to have any security around either, so I don't think we'll have any difficulties.
"Hey lady, could you give us some food?" - Hiro
"Just a little is fine... please!" - Konan
"Get out of here! I don't have any leftover fruit to waste on you guys, go look somewhere else!"
Before she even noticed, Yahiko and Nagato had already filled half the bag with apples and ran to a nearby alley.
"All right ma'am, have a nice day!" - Hiro
Konan left there without looking back, probably annoyed at how slutty this lady was. After all, trash who let children starve in front of them deserve to suffer in hell.
"Hehehehe, we got a good amount this time! Let's go back to our base!" - Yahiko
"So that's how you guys have survived until now?" - Hiro
"Yes, something against?" - Yahiko
"No... I have nothing to talk about." - Hiro.
"We have to resort to any means possible to survive, even if it means stealing from others!" - Yahiko
"I understand you, and I would certainly do the same. Abandoned children can't afford to depend on luck, can they?" - Hiro
"It's good to see that you share the same ideals as I do. Let's go back to our base." - Yahiko
I followed them to the place they referred to as their secret base. It was really discreet, so discreet that I could hardly find it even if I spent hours trying.
To my surprise, there were several food crates full of fruit and a lot of long shelf-life canned food. There were also some water bottles, three camping backpacks and a variety of other things. I am amazed that only three children and a dog managed to accumulate so much.
"(Whistling) You guys really worked hard to put all this together here." - Hiro
"Yes! and if you're going to stick around you'll need to help too!" - Yahiko
"Of course! I don't like the idea of just being a parasite." - Hiro
"Welcome Tsuna-kun!" - Konan
"Welcome Tsuna-san!" - Nagato
"Aul Aul" - Chibi
"You don't need that formality, you can call me Hiro. It will be a pleasure to socialize with you. " - Hiro
Even if it's only temporarily...
Soon after, the four children and the small mutt gathered for the last meal of the day. For young Hiro, this could be considered his first decent meal since he came to this world, so he spared no effort to enjoy his meal to the fullest.
After he was fully satisfied, Hiro walked away from the others and lay down on top of one of the crates. His body is still that of a child, so it was expected that he would be completely worn out after hours of walking and not sleeping for almost a day.
However, another one occupied space in his thoughts since he arrived at the Nawakira trade.

That penalty shit is just too absurd.... But at least the rewards seem great enough. I doubt I would have such a good increment in my physical attributes if I performed this training for only 10 days.
"Hey Yahiko, is he really reliable? That katana of his scares me a little, it came out of nowhere!" - Nagato
"You're right, but you still can't judge him based on that alone... As much as he seems to be someone rather careless and slow, it doesn't seem like he'll do us any harm." - Yahiko
"I found him to be someone gentle and kind.... He didn't judge us for stealing and still helped us without asking too much... I felt I can trust him..." - Konan said, with a slightly shy manner.
"Let's follow Konan's intuition. She is the best within us to judge someone's character." - Yahiko
Soon after everyone agreed to keep Hiro in the group, they fell asleep quietly to the sound of Amegakure's heavy rains.
"You're all silly children, aren't you? Saying you can trust a total stranger... I predict I'll end up becoming a babysitter in this group..." - Hiro, who overheard the whole conversation without the children noticing.
