Chapter 3: ROIWA'S DEATH
Roderick continued to walk through the sea of corpses, if asked to be counted he could not count the number. Starting from babies, toddlers, teenagers, adults, to the elderly, all of them were lying there. Made his heart called to finish and find out what was going on.
"Ziv!" called Roderick when someone he knew came into his sight.
Ziv is Roderick's best friend. When the whales first started, it was Ziv who asked Roderick what they were dealing with. At the same time he became the first follower to run behind Roderick. Meanwhile, his other friends were far apart because they were too busy playing his guitar.
"What are you doing here, Ziv?! Where are the others, I thought you were a part of them. But apparently… thank goodness, I'm glad you survived."
Ziv still managed to hit Roderick in the stomach even though he was powerless. He felt Roderick's joke wasn't right, and he had to teach him a lesson.
"I'm still alive, Roderick. But my body feels broken, I just realized it a while ago. As for our friends… I haven't met them yet. And now I'm looking for the post, who knows they might be there." Ziv replied with his hands still clutching his stomach.
From there Roderick had an idea. He would take Ziv to the post, and he would invite him to cooperate. He was not going to stay at the post, and he asked Ziv to send him food according to what he ate while Ziv was at the post.
A question arose in Ziv's mind about Roderik's intention to leave. Because what he knows is that no survivors can go anywhere.
"Ziv, I beg you to keep this a secret. I will go and stay in a safe place. We will meet here whenever the food aid comes. I beg you once again to keep my departure a secret, okay. I have something to attend to." asked Roderick desperately. Even so, he still maintains the secrecy of his ancestors.
Because Roderick had always looked strange as long as they had known him, Ziv nodded in agreement. He will always support this friend wherever he goes. Roderick also helped Ziv to walk. He slightly put the green mark on Ziv's arm in the hope that Ziv could feel better and get well soon from the pain.
On the way, Ziv asks why Roderick knows where his post is. He casually answered according to what happened earlier.
Once the command post's tent came into view, he began to let go of Ziv's body and said goodbye to find a safe place before the strange big whales came again. If the whales came, he wouldn't be able to live in peace because surely one of them would attack him again.
Roderick's feet continued to walk towards the coast. He would find a hiding place there, and when he found him, he would stay there for a few days.
"Again I met a dead whale that was washed ashore." Roderick grumbled when he saw the big whale under the tree.
Slowly he approached her and confirmed it again. Did this whale die from an ordinary bullet? Or was there another gun that hit his body?
Roderick's lips slightly lifted when the bullet that was like earlier was near his fin. Then he pulled it back and put it back together with the original. Not only that, he opened the whale's eyes with his hands and investigated further.
"The beads are still as usual, there is no gold color like what grandfather said. That means this is neither the queen nor the king of the popes." he said.
Suddenly the green mark on his wrist reacted, causing Roderick to panic and back away from the pope he was executing.
This time the green signal that reacted was not because there was a warning of danger, but something had happened to the whale. Slowly the dead whale's skin peeled off, its flesh melted, its bones crumbled, leaving only a man lying with his eyes closed.
"Hahhh…" Roderick was surprised when he saw the change. He squinted his eyes more and more to make sure who was inside the whale's body.
The result was nothing, he did not know who the man was. Roderick also tried to bring his finger to the man's nose. He checked whether this man was still alive? Or did he die like the pope?
It turned out that this man was dead. He let out a long breath because it was very regretful of his discovery. If only this man was still alive, of course he would ask where he was from. Not only that, he will also ask why this man can exist in the body of a whale. Is this just a coincidence? Or are all the dead whales actually human?
"But how can this whale change? Have the green markings I have touched its body?!" surprised Roderick again.
Can not be denied. To prove it, he must look for a similar whale to solve his curiosity. His steps were lifted again looking for whales that were still stranded. But he immediately went into hiding when there were several policemen who were controlling the situation on the coast. Roderick must improve his accuracy, he must not be caught because it will make him locked up in the post as long as the conditions in the city are not safe.
When he was hiding, he unknowingly stepped on the back of the hand of someone who had become a corpse. He was a man with long hair. Suspicion had begun to take hold of his soul, and it turned out to be true. What he suspected, that was the person.
"Roiwa! Gosh, Roiwa!!" Roderick patted this man's cheek several times.
He name is Roiwa, He is a friend of Roderick. Roderick's friend who also became Ziv's friend. Before the incident happened, Roderick was singing and hanging out with four of his friends including Roiwa and Ziv. He eyes filled with tears until she finally cried remembering the beautiful memories he had with Roiwa.
Roiwa is Roderick's cheerful and loving friend. When he was sad about something, Roiwa always comforted him. But not only him, his other friends were often entertained by Roiwa.
"I'm sorry, Roiwa. I promise to find the root of this incident. May you rest in peace there." said Roderick delivering his parting words. Then he loosened the bracelet strap that was on Roiwa's wrist, and held it as additional strength from his friend who had left earlier.
His eyes did not stay still, Roderick went back to looking for another friend. He hopes they are still alive and can still be together even though he doesn't know what will happen in the future. But Roderick did not recognize the faces of the corpses that were there. His heart was convinced that his other two friends were safe.
"I have to quickly find the dead whales, and I have to prove that the stranded whales are humans."
Roderick continued his search for dead whales. His eyes continued to focus on the sea of corpses that had not yet been transported.
"Hey, you!" suddenly stopped in his steps when someone shouted at him.
Roderick didn't turn around, but his hand slipped into his trouser pocket to keep Roiwa's bracelet which he had secured.
"Are you deaf?! Who are you, actually you can still wander around here, it looks like your body looks fit unlike other people who just stumble." he asked again. Roderick remained silent, he took a deep breath and let it out long.
"I'm sorry sir, I can't find where the post is. I've been looking for nothing. And I just happened to drink coconuts, so my body feels a little better." Roderick lie.
He did that to protect his ancestors. If he told the truth, his grandfather might be angry and would not want to think of him as a grandson anymore. Even though his grandfather died, he could still feel his presence from the blood on his wrist.
"Alright, then let my subordinates take you."
"A-ahh no need, sir. You just need to mention where the post is, I'll walk there right now." said Roderick quickly. He did not want if he was actually secured at the post.
However, Roderick's request was flatly rejected, he would still be delivered to the post safely. Roderick was forced to follow what the person said, but along the way he looked for ways to escape from his surveillance.
