Chapter 103: SURNAME
Lola walks out with her daughter Kim and ignores her husband or whatever conversation her family seems to be having and sits on the couch.
Ella looks at her mom and turn her gaze on her dad. "What is wrong with your wife?" She asks whispering.
"We had an argument today, I think she is still mad at me." Malik replies whispering too.
"Go talk to her."
Malik looks at his wife observing if it is really good for him to talk to her at the moment or not. "Alright, wish me luck."
"Good luck father! You can do this." Ella says loudly.
"Put down your voice." Malik cautions. "Take the kids upstairs so they won't disturb us."
"Yes sir." Ella says teasing her dad.
"Stop laughing at me! I hope you don't become your mom when you marry, talking back at her husband." Malik says.
"Go and meet your wife father." Ella whispers and laughs loudly.
Malik clears his throat and walk close to his wife. "Hi sweetheart."
Lola ignores him and picks up the television remote tuning it on.
"Sweetheart, I am talking to you." Malik whispers and sits close to her.
"Let me be please." Lola says raising her hand to halt him from all he was trying to do to to her. "Go and call your place of work sweetheart."
"I know you are mad at me, I am so sorry." Malik apologizes.
"I wonder when you will start making out time for us. Now Ella is following your foot steps." Lola nags.
"Following my foot steps? How ?" Malik asks.
"She is obsessed with work alone, she doesn't go out on dates, parties or whatever. All these are happening because of what you are doing."
"It's no big deal if she doesn't want to do those things, you kn-" Malik was forced to stop with the look on his wife's face, clearly she wasn't having any of it. "It is such a terrible thing, I agree with you." He quickly changes his perspective.
"Better." Lola looks at Ella. "Ella!"
"Yes mom!" Ella answers. "Check what I am cooking for me, and be careful with Kim. She always wants to touch the hot pot."
"Okay mom." Ella enters the kitchen with her younger siblings.
"Sweetheart, I am sorry." Malik apologizes again.
"Let me be please. Do you even know where Shamim is?" Lola asks.
"His sister told me he went on a date with someone."
"With that girl Cassandra! Again!" Lola exclaims loudly at he took of her voice.
Malik almost got scared with her voice, but somehow he didn't. "If you don't like the idea of him going out with that girl, you should have told him."
"Even Ella of all people could not stop him, so how would I do that?" Lola asks loudly.
"Honey, stop talking at the top of your voice." Malik tries his best to put shouting in a very appropriate manner.
"What is that suppose to mean? I am shouting isn't it?"
"I never said that." Malik tries to defend himself.
"Then what does stop talking at the top of your voice means?" Lola asks again.
Malik tries to think of what to say but thankfully Ella walks out of the kitchen with her sisters.
"Is everything okay?" Kylie asks.
"Yes my baby girl." Malik says with a smile and faces Kim. "Did you miss papa?"
"Yes, Kim misses Papa!" Kim replies happily.
"That's my girl." Malik raises her and put her gently on his laps.
"Mom, the food is ready." Ella says facing Lola.
"Must I tell you before you know that you are meant to serve it?" Lola asks with rage transferring the entire aggression on Ella.
"Alright." Ella walks back to the kitchen in order to avoid troubles.
"I wonder why Shamim is so late!" She says burning up.
"My love, you are acting like a witch at the moment ." Malik whispers really prepared for how his wife might clap back at him.
"Really?" Lola asks.
"Yes." Malik nods. "Why are you getting mad at everyone?"
"That is because you all don't do what I want, you do what will make me sad on purpose." Lola says almost crying.
"We are so sorry my love." Malik kisses her on her forehead.
"Thank you." Lola says trying to conceal her smile but it wasn't successful.
Shamim enters looking very tired but still managed to carry his baby Kim, when she runs to him. "What's up mom." Shamim says and walks to his parents. "Hi dad."
"Where are you coming from?" Lola asks.
"Mom, you know I went on a date with Cassandra."
"Cassandra again?! That witch girl?" Malik asks.
"Dad, she is not a witch." Shamim tries to justify.
"She is just an uncultured brat." Ella cuts in as she drops some plates full of food on the dining table, Kylie is helping her too.
"Ella, please don't do this." Shamim frowns. "You are supposed to take sides with me not them." He says pointing at his parents.
"We all don't like that girl, why can't you just leave her and date someone else." She pauses from setting the dining table and looks at him, then continues. "Maybe Asma, would be okay."
"I don't like her sis." Shamim sits on the chair. "By the way Ella, why is your surname Smith? Can you believe I have never thought of it before? Cassandra just called my attention to it today. If you are my sister, then you should bear my father's name."
"Cassandra that witch." Lola curses beneath her breath.
"Actually, I once had a foster father and his surname was Smith, since I had no father then I decided to take up the name as my surname." Ella lies not looking at her brother's face.
"Oh wow, that's good. It is going to be difficult for you to change it when we finally united. Isn't it?" Malik asks.
"Yes." Ella nods and smiles at her brother.
"Thank God." Malik sighs of relief.
