Chapter 19: Eighteen: Namjoon

As I buckled up, she grew silent. I put the car in to drive and pulled out of the space. I don't want to take her home just yet. I'm enjoying our time together. If I could take her home with me, I'll do so, but it's still a little bit too early to introduce her to the hyungs. "Would you like to accompany me to the fireworks spectacular?" I have to try my luck. If we're sharing this mutual feeling, she wouldn't oblige. She stared at me, a broad smile upon her lips, "I will love to." Her answer made my insides flutter. On our way there we fell into the afternoon traffic. People going to work or returning home after a long tiring day. Teenagers heading out to some illegal hangouts. In the half hour that we've been trapped in the traffic, we engaged in some small talk. Somewhere along the line, our hands locked. I noticed as I shifted the gear stick. When we reached our destination, the parkinglod were almost completely full. After a descend search, I spotted an open space and used it.

Together we made our way towards a grassy slope and I sat down on its soft, evergreen surface. To my surprise she sat down in front of me and leaned slightly back. She snaked her fingers through mine. My heart pounds uncontrollably. If I didn't know any better, I could have sworn that it's climbing out a make believe staircase and readying itself to escape through my throat. How foolish? A dark diamond filled cloak covered the heavens as far as the eye can see. The Summer night is cool out tonight. She shivered lightly under her touch. I pulled off my jacket and draped it over her shoulders. She looked at me from over her left shoulder. A slight blush tinted her features. I bowed my head, levelling my lips to hers. Just as I was about to lean in even closer, an enthusiastic outburst pulled me away from her.

It's a harmonious night time extravaganza. Pastels change the night sky into an enchantment. It feels like a spellbinding journey that takes me beyond the ordinary towards a land of magical possibilities. I pull my attention away from the light show and looked down at her. She smiled up at the sky in awe. I mentally kicked myself, as the thought of realization crept up. I could have kissed her. Why had I chickened out? She must be very disappointed in me. I wanted too. Am I just a damn coward?
