Chapter 8: The Lost One

Ray enters the massive library and begins to browse around, looking through a variety of sections on history and magic, checking out a plethora of books.

Ray begins to read a book on the various gods and their pantheon, named the Eanis religion.

'I recognize all of the Primus arts they have here, or the main gods, but apparently there are 63 higher gods, and all of which look somewhat familiar,

so it is safe to assume everyone moved here after, but why did it take me so long to get here?' Ray thinks, as he notices a prophecy under the war god, Contal's section.

'In the beginning there were 63 High gods of the pantheon of Eanis, but there was one god who was lost, and has never been found.

But when he is discovered, there will be a revolution amongst the deities of this world, between The lost one, and the pantheon which will reshape the world itself.'

'What? Is he talking about me? I mean I am the only one not accounted for amongst them, so I guess that makes sense,

but why does he think I will cause destruction, and why do none of the other gods support this prophecy?' Ray ponders as he is confused by the stories told by these mortals turned to gods.

'Ok, so as far as I can tell they have been around for at least three thousand years, at least that was the first reference to them that I could find,

for whatever reason they also changed their names to sound more mythical, and good god why did they have so many children?!

I see at least three hundred references to demi-gods and minor gods!' Ray thinks as he switches books to one based on the theorem of magic.

******

After a couple of hours of reading, Ray finishes the book on magical theorem,

'Alright, so magic is pretty much just natural energy, and that is all these people have discovered after generations of research?! There has to be more to it than that… Shit, I have to get to class!'

Ray dashes off to class, barely making it on time and takes a seat.

Geril walks in and begins class,

"Alright, you all have made it to the first circle, but next to none of you know any spells,

so I will be teaching you two basic spells this week, the first of which being the spell,

Arcane Shield, so what you will need to do is…" Geril continues as he explains more about the spell.

*****

[New Spell Gained!]

[Arcane Shield!]

[Effect: Shield yourself to a degree dependent on how much mana you put in to it]

[Divine Spell Gained!]

[Shield of the Divine!]

[Effect: A vastly stronger version of Arcane shield, that not only defends more, it also can be used to absorb the mana from an attack]

'Two spells for the price of one? Perfect!' Ray smiles as he creates an arcane shield.

"Oh, looks like one of you is actually talented! Good job." Geril says as he continues to instruct the others.

******

The class ends and as Ray is about to walk out, Geril stops him and says.

"Hey, you managed to pick up a spell in less than an hour. You may actually be able to do better here,

but you will have to find an Alumni to take you under their wing, but you are a commoner, so they aren't going to be looking for you. If you want to stand out, join the Arena."

"The arena? What the hell is that?" Ray asks.

"It is pretty much a gladiator match of mages, but you need a teacher to be your sponsor, which I will sponsor you, but you can't lose because if you do I will lose credibility." Geril Responds.

"Deal, well anyway I have to go, see you tomorrow teach." Ray says as he walks away

"Wait, one last thing, don't call me a prick again." Geril calls out as he starts doing some paperwork.

******

Ray walks up to his cliff, and when he does he sees two earthen buildings, one of which is larger than the other.

"Oh! You have returned!" Seirai says, as she drags a couple of dead rabbits, and baskets of plants he had foraged.

"Yes I have, and it appears you guys have been busy, and are effective. Good job." Ray says as he walks into his home. He then channels his Wind Affinity.

After a couple of hours he finishes and breaks through into the first circle. As he does he hears a knock on his doorway.

"Hm? What do you need?" Ray calls out as he walks over. And sees Modri.

"Uhm… I was wondering, what are we supposed to call you?" Modri says nervously.

"Kaine, or lord, I care not what you choose." Ray responds.

"Mr. Kaine, are you really a god..?" Modri asks.

"Yes, I may not be well known, but I am in fact a god. Can you keep a secret, young one?" Ray responds with a small grin.

"Yes!" Modri responds with excitement.

"Have you ever read the prophecy of the lost one?" Ray asks.

"I have, it states that there is a lost god who will fight the pantheon! He is supposedly as old as the primus!" Modri says.

"Well, they are half right, while I am as old as them, I have no intention of fighting them, simply to live my life freely." Ray says.

'Best way to build followers, add a hint of mystery.'

"You are the lost one!" Modri shouts in fear as he shifts away slightly.

"Calm down, if I were going to harm you, I would have done so already, as I already said, I just want to live my life and gain enough power to do so freely." Ray smiles as he walks away.

Modri walks back to his family with a conflicted expression on his face and goes to sleep.

'Time to channel Time affinity' Ray thinks as he begins to channel for the rest of the night.
