Chapter 8: A Runaway Experiment

Katherine rushed towards the door after he children had arrived looking beaten up and uncared for.

"What's going on here?" She asked while helping Eddie drop Jade down on the couch. She had used the last of her energy to teleport them and had passed out immediately they appeared.

"Vampire problems" Eddie replied while helping his mother lower the unconscious girl down on the couch.

"Are you guys okay?" She asked looking around for injuries but didn't find any.

"You should have seen the other guys" Eddie bragged unfolding his sleeves. His wounds had completely healed up and he kinda pitied Jade for not having regenerative abilities like he did.

She was already powerful enough to defend herself so wounding her was almost next to impossible. Only higher vampires could stand a chance against taking her down. She was a child prodigy from birth and Kathrine had made sure to see that she utilized her potentials to the fullest. And just at the age of seventeen now, she could easily take on twenty nightwalkers without breaking a sweat.

She was trained not only by Katherine but also by the coven's higher ups. She had already been declared as the successor of the coven due to her sheer display of talent and easy mastery of spells.

He on the other hand had only managed to learn simple spells whenever Katherine taught her. Posing as a wolf in these period was suicidal and he'd rather stay hidden under the cover of a witch, his display of magic easily convinces anyone who dared to doubt the fact that he was a witch.

Katherine placed her hand over Jade's temple and began muttering some incantations just before a green glow appeared beneath her palm. She was healing her.

Jade's eyes soon swung open and she rose quickly, not expecting her mother to be home yet but she had remembered they wasted time on their way home with the stupid bullies.

She sat up and smiled at her mother who looked at her with unhappy eyes. It seemed her daughter didn't know her limits and was too careless with her powers.

Eddie on the other hand had raced up to his room to get changed. His uniform was torn and stained by both his blood and Stewie's.

He reached the bathroom and proceeded to wash his face in the sink only looking up at the mirror and noticing his eyes were red, almost vampire like. He ignored it, it probably was the water that got into his eyes or maybe it was an injury from Stewie and it would probably heal soon.

Katherine laid on her bed unable to rest, it seemed everything in her life was running down the hill, she had just learnt that one of the successful breeds had managed to escape and since it was still unstable, it could be out there doing damage and risking exposure of the supernatural world to the humans. She had been told to task Eddie with recovering this creature but she couldn't even look him in the eyes and speak to him not to speak of sending him after an unstable creature that had gotten through four witches killing one of them even. She wasn't going to send her son on a suicide mission, not now, not ever.

She had decided that she would find this creature by herself and the higher ups hadn't stopped her. They couldn't really care less, what they wanted was their pet and they wanted it back at all cost.

She waited until it was night fall when the kids were asleep, she had woken and began a tracking spell with the goo that the creature had littered around during it's escape.

She began her tracking incantations and finally managed to pinpoint the creature in a forest just at the outskirt of Bayview and it still seemed to be moving. Without wasting any more time, she teleported herself to the where she had pinpointed the creature and immediately she arrived, she had casted a dome around the area sealing every path of escape.

This also meant no escape for her too. She was well aware of how strong this creature was, yet she had sealed herself in with it. She could be killed, but she won't let this beast escape and harm others.

Katherine walked round the area, searching for trails of the creature and she had found it's slimy discharge. She immediately followed the trail to where it ended only to meet a man at its end, naked and smiling.

"You must be the one who put up the veil" The man said turning round to face her not minding that he wasn't clothed. From the crescent moon tattoo on his neck side, she could easily make out that he was a wolf before the witches decided to experiment on him.

"Don't be scared, I won't harm you" The man promised only managing to keep his outgrowing fang in control.

He felt disgusted by himself, he looked like something that had crawled out of a dead carcass, he reeked of decay and he could barely keep his wolf inside. The experiment had done serious damage to him. He had always watched from the tank of green liquid he was suspended in and he knew this witch had a good heart.

Katherine's hand came alive with flames the second the man took a step closer to her. She had been informed It was still unstable and could be dangerous and the constant struggle to keep himself in his human form attested to that fact.

From his looks, he was either In his mid forties or late thirties but the unkept hair made him appear much more older and dangerous.

"I just want to leave this place and go to a safer town to live the rest of my life, I don't want to get caught up in whatever the witches are scheming" The man explained trying to calm Katherine down. If he was only a wolf, then she stood a chance at stopping him, but with the surge of power inside him, snapping her neck wouldn't be too difficult for him.

He didn't know what the witches did to him, but whatever it was that they did, it had made him more powerful than he could remember that he was when he was captured.

He didn't want to hurt anyone all he wanted was to get away from this place and the only thing standing in between him and his freedom was this woman but he knew she was one of the good ones. He has been watching her ever since he'd been captured.

"I can't let you go" Katherine managed to say, the flames in her palm gradually getting bigger and fiercer. "They'll take my son from me, I can't let them take him" Katherine explained.

That explained why she looked so depressed and out of shape. From what he had seen and heard about her, she would have normally left him to escape but this time, her son's life was on the line and he could totally understand a mother's love. He had managed to finally keep his wolf under control and for once, he felt whole again. He felt the war inside him between the two sides but finally, it seemed they were now in sync with each other.

He watched the tears in her ears and could easily smell her sadness. He didn't have anyone else to live for and life wouldn't be that graceful to him with almost all his clan members dead. He had decided to make the ultimate sacrifice, he'd give himself in for the sake of this woman's son. He didn't want another person suffering what he had suffered for full twelve years.

He folded his hands together in front of him before falling to his knees. "Take me back to them"
