Shani didn’t remember fainting, but she surmised that she did when she woke to complete unfamiliarity…again.
It took her a moment for sensation to return, her senses getting their bearings. There was the sound of trickling water and distant voices; the feel of rhythmic hands on her face and neck, and a strong body holding her in the current of the water.
Questions drew her quickly into consciousness. And several realizations: she was naked, halfway submerged in water, and being held by an equally naked female.
Shani blinked awake and found her vision filled with a beautiful face warped with beautiful dislike. She thrashed, heel slipping on a film of algae on the rock beneath them. “Oh f—”
She was the Lovell she-wolf who helped her, and she saved her again now, steadying her into sitting. “You’re safe. I’m just washing the blood off you. I’m Mingan Weylyn.”
“I didn’t know Alarik had a daughter,” was the first thing Shani could think to stupidly say.
