Chapter 15: Could It Be?

Castelia explains, "Joshua's father died when he was ten and he was cared for by his uncle from the age of sixteen."

That was all Castelia knew. There was never a word about Joshua's mother. Joshua was never happy when discussing it, therefore Castelia did not dare to bring up the topic. However, whether or not Maddie didn't want to know. Joshua, the bastard, never caught her attention let alone intrigued her.

"Tsk!" Maddie smiled lightly, a disdainful expression on her face before commenting, "No wonder that bastard is so arrogant and has no manners." It might be too harsh to say but it's a fact, Joshua is the most asshole man Maddie has ever known in her life.

Even just looking at Joshua brought anger. Seeing him living so comfortably, quietly and having it all was the biggest injustice Maddie had to face. 'Where's the karma?' Maddie thought. Was there no retaliation after Joshua hurt Castelia so badly and acted like he was so big?

"I hate to see it," Maddie commented irritably. "I really hate to see him so calm and comfortable. He wears a new suit and shoes every day while we have to work hard without being able to be like him."

Maybe getting rich isn't something Maddie wants. What Maddie wants easy is to live in peace without running out of money but seeing Joshua changes her mind. What Maddie wants is to flick Joshua and make him feel bad so he understands what it's like to be mistreated.

"I haven't forgiven yesterday's insults," Maddie added, recalling Joshua's sharp mouth at the bar, on the first day they met.

No one knows what's going through Castelia's head. Has she even heard Maddie's ramblings? Castelia chose one of the seats not far from where Melody and Joshua were sitting, Maddie followed her and sat in front of her.

"What should I do with him?" asked Maddie who then thought of something to reply to Joshua and wipe the smug look off his face.

"Don't do anything," replied Castelia. "We didn't come for that."

"You are right." Maddie agreed but it didn't feel right to sit back and lurk behind the menu book. "But still, it sucks to see them so happy." Hence, Maddie couldn't stop thinking of something to do but what was it?

If only she had known they would be so easy to reach, Maddie would have come with a dozen rats from the start so she could make a mess.

"Maybe they're not really happy," Castelia muttered. "If they are happy, Melody won't come to us." Maybe Castelia wasn't wrong but the topic stopped when their target made a move.

"She's standing." Castelia's voice snapped Maddie from deep thought, she blinked and saw Melody rise from her seat. "Looks like the toilet," she guessed and Maddie nodded in response.

"Should we go after her?" Maddie asked and Castelia nodded in agreement.

"Wait here, I'll go over there," Castelia replied and Maddie nodded.

As Castelia entered the toilet, she saw Melody standing in front of the mirror and washing her hands. The woman reflexively turned around when she realized someone's arrival and her facial expression changed to anger when she realized who it was.

It happened that the toilet was empty, so Melody felt free to talk. "You really think you can just appear in front of me even though you've paid off your debts?" She alluded to it.

Castelia didn't answer but also didn't understand the meaning of Melody's words. Let alone paying off debt, they didn't even have a ten percent share to pay.

After drying her hands, Melody stood in front of Castelia. Her eyes sharply pierced hers before saying, "Never will I forgive you for messing with me, really you should feel lucky that I didn't torture you badly."

Satisfied with babbling, Melody shoved Castelia's shoulder and walked away but Castelia's voice stopped her before she could open the toilet door. "What do you mean by paying?"

Castelia asked because she didn't understand but somehow the question entered Melody's ears differently. The girl turned around and smiled disdainfully before saying, "You're mocking me? Do you think I forgive you because you paid me way more than promised?"

Melody is just so angry that it seems impossible not to kill Castelia and Maddie, which is why she chooses to remain silent so as not to make a mistake that will complicate her life. Melody doesn't want her time to run out on two human corpses that can't change what happened.

"Get out of my sight!" expelled Melody before she left the toilet and Castelia in her position.

Castelia didn't move for two minutes but looked like she was starting to understand what had happened. 'Maddie and I don't have that kind of money to pay Melody but Melody says we did even more than we promised.'

Slowly everything became clear. Maybe just a suspicion but perhaps not wrong. Castelia thought, 'Our target is Joshua, a man who has always been known to be conscientious and clever or maybe you could call him cunning.'

"No …." Castelia muttered doubtfully, worried that her guess might be correct. Castelia hoped not, she didn't want Joshua to know about himself being behind his wife's orders.

However, all of that is just conjecture. Castelia didn't want to worry, she decided to get out of the toilet and go back to Maddie's. When Maddie saw Castelia, Melody's table was already filled with food.

Maddie asked, "You talked to Melody?" Maddie wondered what they were talking about in there but Castelia shook her head.

"I tried to talk to her but she just kept quiet and walked away." Castelia lied because she was still worried about what was going on in her mind. Whether it was true that Joshua knew the truth and that he was the one who paid all the money to Melody or not, Castelia thought not to say anything much less so Maddie won't find out.

For some reason, Castelia didn't want Maddie to know because it felt like the truth would infuriate her by humiliating and scratching her pride. Maddie will be furious when she finds out Joshua may have been toying with them and Castelia doesn't want to hear any slurs from Maddie's mouth for Joshua.

"That's really weird," Maddie commented irritably, snorting in disgust as she turned her gaze to Melody.

Castelia stared silently, slightly relieved that Maddie had trusted her so quickly. However, the curiosity to know grew in Castelia's mind, making her think of a way to talk to Joshua and confirm her guess.

What would Joshua say, even what was on his mind if it turned out that he really knew it all? Castelia wanted to know. 'Could it be because he knows, that's why he doesn't contact me anymore?' she guessed.
