Chaenath felt it almost to be an order. "What do you mean that we can't leave? Are we prisoners here?" she stepped down the stairs.

"Don't act so high and mighty just because you're an elf," Richard replied coldly. "Without your bow, you are nothing."

"Aren't you supposed to be the caretaker of this place? The caretaker for Callaway? What's with that attitude of yours?"

"I don't have to hide my face to you," he smirked. "My master only told me to take care of the girl – or boy, whatever way you like it. Master Connely hired me here to keep her from reaching his place, and shaming his name."

"You are lying to her face," she shouted.

"What are you going to do about it?" he smirked. "Now, if you have nothing else to say, go back up and behave like a good little bird." He went away.

She hated it, but he was right. She couldn't do anything without her bow. She walked up with her face down, defeated.
