Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Need for Change

“I can’t do this anymore,” Mila moaned as she dragged her feet into the west wing kitchenette. Her hand reached for the freezer. She sighed as she pulled out a Death by Chocolate tub of ice cream and sat on the floor with the spoon she’d grabbed on her way there.

Josiah quietly observed her body relax as she ate the ice cream. He had been wondering how it was going with Sloane, and although Mila had insisted it was fine, he was pretty sure it wasn’t.

“Great day at work, huh?” Josiah asked softly.

Startled, Mila squeaked in surprise, choking on the spoonful of ice cream she had just put in her mouth. She sputtered the ice cream out as she coughed.

The sheepish look on her face was enough to convey that she hadn’t been truthful. She pasted on a quick fake smile. “Hey, Beta. How was your day?”

Josiah frowned. They might not be lovers, but she was his to take care of, and he took the job seriously. Mila had been miserable when she arrived but cautiously hopeful.
