Chapter 36: Chapter 36: An Eternal Devotion

Edith didn’t sleep well.

She pondered over Judith’s words, tossing and turning all night long. Finally, in the early hours of the morning when it was still dark, Edith got out of the bed and went back to the chairs before the fire. The smell of fresh paint and wood still lingered in the air.

Just as she settled in to her chair, the floor creaked suspiciously in the corner of the room. Edith turned her head sharply as Miles formed from the darkness.

“You came inside,” she noticed quietly.

Miles smiled, “You are still awake.”

“I’ve been tossing and turning for hours,” Edith admitted. “Judith is my dearest friend, but she said some things that just made me feel uneasy.”

Frowning Miles pointed to the empty chair beside Edith’s. She nodded, and the vampire silently sat down.

“May I ask what was said?” Miles asked.

Edith sighed deeply, “She knows about Caden and I…”

Miles blinked.

The young woman halted in her story at the expression on the vampire’s face.
