Edith stared at the priest.
“What?” she asked breathlessly.
James tilted his head and repeated his question calmly.
“How long have you been involved with Caden Byrne? You must know he is a vampire by now.”
Edith froze, watching the man in front of her for any sign of what was to come next.
James waited. He stopped leaning on the stone arch of the doorway and took a slight step towards her.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t know something…” he pointed at the cathedral behind him. “I have run into Caden before, and I’ve heard the rumors. You also left a book open to the Castrel Ruins, so I know you’ve been doing your research too.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Edith whispered.
Rain started to fall again.
“Why don’t I make some tea, and we can sit in the library and have a chat? As Caden said, you shouldn’t be out tonight.”
Edith blinked, “You… heard our conversation?”
