Chapter 39: 39 - Siren

Her laugh answered his words. Getting further away, the more she ran away from him before going utterly silent.

"Ari?"

"ARI! Where are you?"

Only the crackle of crickets answered back, not even the sound of crunching leaves or the sound of running feet.

He wasn't scared of the folktales the elders exchanged around the fire, but one story sprang into his head.

The Siren of the Forest.

Advil's uncle, the Alpha of the Storm Riders clan Galan, always laughed away such tales, calling it just the thirst of the forest hunters playing with their imagination and that no such siren exists or had ever even existed in the first place.

Aris' shrill scream ripped through the trees, launching Advil to transform into his wolf and follow her scent through the forest.

Cursing at himself for not doing so instantly and rather standing like a fool amidst the forest. Slashing through the trees, he sprinted towards Ari, finding her kneeling on the forest floor with her back to him.
