Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Ryuchi Cave
After around 5 days of non-stop traveling, Catherine was able to come across a cave that was covered with mist, one she could only assume was Ryuchi Cave.
When she flew down towards the cave, the mist dissipated to reveal a large open cavern. As she touched the ground, multiple snakes came out of the cave and menacingly hissed in front of her.
Catherine simply smiled at the snakes, not showing an ounce of fear, though she was still cautious as she was prepared to cast a spell at a moment's notice.
"How may we help you misssss?" asked a large white snake that seemed to be leading the group of snakes.
"I'm here to speak with the person in charge of Ryuchi Cave. Would I be able to do that?" Catherine asked politely.
One of the red snakes in the group seemed angered by that response though as they screamed "How dare a mere human ask to speak to The Great Black Snake!! I'll kill you, you insolent vermin!!"
The snake was about to run directly at Catherine, however, it was stopped by the white snake hitting him with her tail as she thought grimly 'If it was any other human, I would absolutely agree and probably eat them as well, however, there is something about this human that makes her feel dangerous to me. I only feel like this when dealing with the Great Black Snake.'
The red snake seemed shocked that the white one had hit him "What did you attack me for. If you wanted to eat her then all you had to do is say that. Just save me a few bites before you eat all of her, it'll be a good snack." he said while his tongue hissed in anticipation at the chance of devouring Catherine.
However the white snake, contrary to his expectations, simply hit him again before looking at him as if he was a fool and saying "How could you attack a guest of Ryuchi Cave, we are always welcoming to humans and would never eat them!" she yelled in fake anger before turning towards Catherine, who simply stood amused at the situation.
She knew of the wickedness that existed inside Ryuichi Cave thanks to the anime, and would never believe them to be welcoming to humans. From Manda requesting to have sacrifices whenever he was summoned and threatening to even devour his summoner, to the White Snake Sage devouring anyone who is unable to withstand her forceful infusion of Nature Energy.
However, she was surprised to hear that the White Snake Sage wasn't the one who was currently in power, with it instead being headed by the Black Snake Sage.
The white snake then spoke to her "I'll take you to meet the Black Snake Sage. Follow me Ms.?" she asked the last part as a question.
"Yao is fine." Catherine said with a smile as she followed the white serpent into the cave.
The cave itself was quite damp in the atmosphere, with it carrying an eerie silence where the only slithering of snakes could be heard.
Catherine decided to create small talk as she asked "What is the Black Snake Sage like?"
The white snake responded cheerfully "He is a great and powerful snake. And while my father doesn't like humans that much, he should find you to be unique."
Catherine was stunned at the revelation before all the pieces started to come together in her mind 'So this is the White Snake Sage. She just hasn't become the leader of Ryuchi Cave.' she thought.
The two then continued the rest of the walk in silence, until they made it to the room of the Great Black Snake.
"This is the furthest that I can take you, but know that I wish you luck. I'll stay here to wait for you." the white snake said.
"Thanks." Catherine said, before entering into the room to meet the leader of Ryuchi Cave.
