Chapter 66: Monster hunting expedition (1)

2 weeks had flown by and I still had nothing better to do than train. I had placed my theory under test and it had wielded results. I was able to manipulate lava more easily. My theory was simple. It was in regards to the vase training. I had wondered what would happen if I moved the vase. I tried it and my heart stopped beating but after a while I felt it beat again. I found out this is the reason why cougar sensei told me not to do it.

Moving the vase to a different place in my body led to different results. I had taken advantage of these results and had created something called modes. So far I had 5 of them but they were far from perfected. The proficiency I had in them was low due to the fact that I did not have a lot of experience with it. I had tested it out on several creatures completely annihilating them but it was hard to control. No matter which mode I used.

"These tremors are getting more powerful by the day." one my teammate said. He was a healer with gray hair and an apathetic face. This was how most healers looked. Either stressed out to the max or apathetic. Seeing a healer who was actually cheery was more rare than diamond.

"I wonder what's causing them." A hunter said. He said several hunting daggers on his body and a small knife in his hand. He was ripped like a swimmer and had short hair.

"Don't focus on that too much. It's been like that for 2 weeks" an archer said. He had a quiver on his back and a giant bow in his hand. He had orange hair, orange eyebrows, a spotless face that had no scars of any kind as if it had gone through face treatments for its entire life. He was the leader of the group. It was a small group consisting of those three and me.

I was the baggage handler and bait. I didn't find any problem with this as my tentacles carried the heavy bags. The heavy bags was filled with food, camping equipments and potions. I had joined them since they were heading into monster territory and needed someone to act as bait.

They hadn't even questioned. All they asked me was whether I could take care of myself which I had answered yes to. After that we left. I immediately regretted joining them as they were so broke that they could not even afford to rent out a car. I could have left them but didn't as there was no other group that needed bait. Most of them already had someone acting as bait, besides even if I did leave and tried joing another team they was no guarantee the process would be as smooth as with these guys.

My main purpose of joining them was to find out what monsters would be like. I had wondered just how strong they were and what a fight with them was like. I wanted some experience as well.

They had told me that the expedition would take at least 3 days since they did not have a car. I had made a few calls and cleared my schedule for the next few days.

This had turned into a wuxia novel as we had spent hours running at speeds of 50 kilometers per hour. Although that was their average speed I was able to keep up despite carrying all the luggage that weighed 300 kilograms with relative ease.

"What do you think Jason? What do you think is causing these tremors" The hunter asked me. I had given them a fake name. This was in case I decided along the way to betray them in case something interesting came the way.

"Probably tectonic plate shifts or some shit like that." I replied.

My answer was met with laughter from the hunter and the archer. The healer didn't really care. He just focused ahead and kept his eyes on the road he was running on.

"Your funny Jason. Isn't that right Jason?" the archer asked the hunter. Coincidentally the hunter seemed to have the same name as the fake one I had picked. Out of all the names in the world his parents decided to pick the one I had chosen.

"Yeah, STOP!" Jason stopped and so did the others. I continued for a while before finally coming to a standstill. I walked back to the others. Jason was kneeling on the floor and staring at a footprint.

It was the footprint of a human. From the looks of it a big person with giant feet.

"This is a human footprint. From someone big with giant feet by the looks of it." Jason said. Stop saying what I just said genius.

"So what?" the archer said.

Jason pointed his finger at another footprint. I hadn't even noticed it. It was the footprint of an animal of some kind. But the strange thing was that their was another human footprint next to it.

"Whatever it is, we can conclude it has one human leg and one animal leg." Jason said as he removed a dagger from his pocket that was on his calf. "Mark, Peter... get ready..." Jason said.

"For what?" Mark the archer asked. "Just because we saw some weird footprints doesn't mean that we are in danger. We can just keep moving."

"Look at those footprints carefully you idiot. If those were normal footprints they would not be so perfectly placed into the ground so that we could see it. Whatever made these footprints was moving backwards slowly while making sure it's footprints were firmly placed into the ground."

Mark removed an arrow from his quiver and knocked his bow up. Peter reached into his pants and pulled out a large steel pipe.

The thing that I wanted to know was how was he able to run with that thing in his pants?
