Chapter 38: Worth the Risk?

Hudson’s POV

I'm out in Emma's yard, the brisk air biting at my skin as I stack wood with a purpose. The rhythmic thud of logs against logs provides a momentary respite from the complexities of pack dynamics. That's when I notice Vesper, the Gamma, striding towards me, his footsteps heavy with an air of anger that's impossible to ignore.

"Vesper, what's wrong?" I ask, setting down a log and wiping my hands on my pants. I attempt to defuse the situation before it spirals out of control.

Vesper stops a few feet in front of me and he meets my gaze, frustration etched across his features. It is hard not to notice the vein pulsing in his forehead. He is a formidable man, and even more formidable when he is shifted. There is a reason that the Alpha put him in charge of the pack’s defenses. 

"The problem is your fiancée, Hudson. She's putting everyone at risk," Vesper declares, his words cutting through the air with an accusatory edge.
