Machado reclined in his chair and gave Vice and accessing look. "Your client is very well informed."

Vice looked around with an expression of confusion. "It's a very leaky building, a very leaky everything around Paraisópolis. It can't come as a surprise to you that some of your people would maybe...leak too."

The woman with the head-wrap pointed her gun over the top of Machado's chair, aiming right at Vice's head. "You know what really leaks? A bullet hole."

Vice chuckled, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Come now, I'm just kidding. I have no idea how my client got his information, and as you can imagine I didn't ask. I'm just an intermediary."

"What if I want to talk with him?"

Vice frowned in exaggerated disappointment. "Then I'm afraid we'll have no deal. You do understand the point of an intermediary, right? If my client didn't care about his privacy he would have come himself."
