In the kitchen, Seo-yeon was busy making some food while Ma-ri just sat down in the living room, looking engrossed about something on her laptop which no one knew about.
"Come on Ma-ri. You can't just sit down there doing nothing. Get your ass up and start helping me cook. You had Ae-cha leave the kitchen for the reasons best known to you." Seo-yeon frowned, putting her gloved hands on her hips.
"Come on Seo-yeon. I would never allow her to cook for me or even touch the food I'm gonna eat. Her job is to wash dishes, clean the whole house, do the laundry and others but do not go near my food." Ma-ri smirked, picking a piece of chopped meat on the plate next to her.
"What are you doing exactly?" Seo-yeon curiously walked to her side and looked at the screen of the laptop. "Looking for a job for me. Seriously Ma-ri? In a dance school?" She asked, wondering if her friend had gone crazy.
"You wanted a job that pays a lot and they pay twenty five thousand won per hour so what do you expect? You're expected to work for four hours, that's how much? Isn't it nice." She smiled at herself, showing her white teeth.
"I said I'm done with dancing and art. I don't want anything to do with it." Seo-yeon sighed before facing the food she was making.
"Oh come on, Seo-yeon." Ma-ri dropped the laptop and stood next to her peeking at the meat in the frying pan over Seo-yeon's shoulders.
"This is for Ji-hoon, not for you." Seo-yeon immediately informed her nosy friend, knowing what her next attempt might be. " About the job, I know I'm doing this for Ji-hoon, but I don't think I would ever be able to…."
"Did you think I just told Eun-ji you would be back for her without knowing what I'm saying? You can do it, Seo-yeon. You can get back what she got from you." Ma-ri tried to convince, wanting her friend to see the bright side of her situation but unfortunately, she was tough to break.
"I don't have plans for that. All I want to do is make a living for myself and my son. Teach him to be a better man and know how to treat women in future. I want to know how it turned out that he isn't Do-yun's son. Not go around dancing like I'm jobless." Seo-yeon mumbled thoughtfully and Ma-ri sighed deeply.
"You will never listen would you? But I submitted your CV already and you're going there next week for an interview and tests." Ma-ri smiled guiltily, making Seo-yeon stop whatever she was doing to look at her friend in disbelief.
"How dare you. You want me to throw you in this pan and fry you up right? You did that behind my back. Ma-ri I'm gonna beat you up today." Seo-yeon frowned and Ma-ri shrugged like someone who just ironically got praised.
"You're welcome." She ignored the angry stare of her friend and pulled her apron on.
"So what should I do?"
"Just slice the tomatoes. Don't be useless." Seo-yeon sighed.
"I agreed to help you already, woman. Watch how you talk to me. I'm older than you are, you know." Ma-ri frowned and Seo-yeon looked at her with a raised brow.
"With a month? Just shut the hell up, focus on those tomatoes and slice them for me. And if you like, eat them all up while slicing."
Seo-yeon hissed and Ma-ri grumbled before walking to the tomatoes to slice them.
"What exactly are you cooking uhn? It looks like you're cooking the whole house. There's tomatoes, ginger and garlic, rice, meats, fishes…."
"You said rice and saw rice. Are you that dumb to pick up that it's going to be rice?"
Seo-yeon shook her head helplessly while Ma-ri was starting to get tired of her friends nagging and pointed the knife at Seo-yeon.
"Hey woman. Be careful if you don't want me to chop you in that pan." Ma-ri threatened and Seo-yeon rolled her eyes without saying a word, pulling the pan away from the cooker.
"Ohh. Looks yummy. Can I get a taste?"
Seo-yeon pulled up the spatula in the hot oil and pointed it at Ma-ri as if telling her that if she came anywhere closer she was going to pour hot oil on her.
"Fine. Whatever." Ma-ri retreated and continued slicing the tomatoes.
Seo-yeon and Ma-ri spent an hour and half in the kitchen just because they were making food. Ji-hoon who sat quietly looked up when he saw them bring food into the dining room.
"Momma. Food is ready?" He asked and she nodded, gesturing to him to come over. He happily got out of his seat and eagerly walked to the dining room. He sat quietly as Seo-yeon served him the food.
"Thank you momma. Ji-hoon appreciates it."
"You should start using pronouns like I. Not always Ji-hoon." Ma-ri sat opposite the boy with her large plate filled with food.
"Shut up and leave the little boy alone." Seo-yeon shot her a deadly glare making her laugh gently before she started digging in. "Should momma feed you sweetheart?"
"No. I would eat myself. You too should eat okay?" Ji-hoon smiled and she nodded, giving him a quick peck on the cheeks before sitting next to him.
"Who said you needed a man when you have your boy here. Oh he's so cute. I would have chosen him over Ge-un if he was old enough." Ma-ri sighed and Seo-yeon just rolled her eyes.
"Ji-hoon, your mom is getting a job next week. In a dance school."
"Really momma?" Ji-hoon looked up at his mother who glared at Ma-ri before looking at her son.
"I'm not sure yet but your godmother here helped me apply so I have no choice but to go." Seo-yeon replied and he nodded gently.
"You'll hit the gym tomorrow morning at four and end the session at six." Ma-ri said, chewing her food slowly. "No objections. And you'll eat healthy."
"Why do I need to eat healthy when I already eat healthy?" Seo-yeon raised a brow and Ma-ri giggled.
"You know what I mean okay so don't start right now." Ma-ri chuckled and Seo-yeon just rolled her eyes.
"Eat well sweetheart okay? You should have enough food before your surgery in a few weeks. You need it. And you must promise momma that you'll be good and come out well after your surgery okay? If you do so I will buy you anything you want." Seo-yeon said to her little cutie.
"I don't want anything momma. As long as you're smiling happily I'm okay with it." He genuinely smiled and Seo-yeon bit her lips to hold back tears.
"I love you sweetheart."
