Chapter 5: I still blame myself

Seo-yeon strided out of Ge-un's office with a defeated expression crossing her grief stricken face.

The doctor's words repeatedly played in her head; she couldn't help but clasp her hands to the side of her head in an attempt to make them all go away.

And just when she was starting to think things wouldn't get worse, this happened!

Feeling really dizzy from the whole trauma, her vision became blurry and the next thing, she had fallen next to Ma-ri who immediately supported her friend before she could fall to the ground.

"Get a hold of yourself Seo-yeon." She hissed out while leading her towards the chair and helping her sit on it.

"Oh Ma-ri. Why am I being punished?" She finally said something while staring into space, "what did I do wrong? He has been diagnosed with Pneumonia. What did I do wrong to deserve this? What did Ji-hoon do to deserve all this pain?"

Her cheeks were damp already, her tears flowing without any attempt of stopping. Despite the crying image, one could still see the beauty in the broken lady.

"It's okay Seo-yeon, everything happens for a reason and remember there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. It's okay, keep the fate." Ma-ri tried to console her but her friend was too depressed to listen to her words.

"If this is a test from the heavens, then I want it to be over right this second! I worked, prayed and cried everyday, hoping to finally come across that light at the end of the tunnel but no, It never came. I'm tired Ma-ri, I'm fed up!"

Ma-ri watched her yell at herself and cry for a whole hour, she didn't bother to stop her this time around and maybe that was what she needed, to let it all out and relieve herself from the ache and suffering.

After an hour of constantly watching her friend, Seo-yeon finally quiet while staring at the ceiling above.

"Feeling any better?" Ma-ri softly asked after giving her friend some few minutes to calm down.

Seo-yeon nodded affirmatively before getting up to her two feet and walking into Ji-hoon's ward without uttering a word.

It hurt Ma-ri a lot to see her best friend like that, she knew she couldn't help her with more than the amount of money with her.

Ma-ri being an independent lady right from highschool always made sure her parents stopped giving her large sum of money as her monthly allowance and right now she was old enough to make her own money, they hardly give her money.

She would have to pay them back if she collects any money from them.

After a few seconds of gathering her own breath, she walked into Ji-hoon's ward and helped Seo-yeon serve dinner. Although it was past ten pm already she mustn't let her go without eating.

Seo-yeon collected the food gratefully and just kept staring at her son's sleeping face.

Ma-ri distracted herself by turning on the TV to watch what was going on in the city and once again, the familiar report was being displayed on the screen again.

"Empress of the music industry, Eun-ji releases her latest music Gasoline. The music hits seven million downloads in just five hours which broke the record of the Han music industry. Eun-ji appreciated those who downloaded the music that night. Stellar industry would be holding a live performance for the song...."

Ma-ri instantly switched off the television, throwing the remote control angrily. "What a backstabber. After a whole ten years of our friends together she dares do that to you and shows her face to the public…."

"That was in the past Ma-ri." Seo-yeon softly enunciated, "Eun-ji would pay for everything she has done sooner or later."

She had been angry about the whole thing before and nothing changed every time she looked at that backstabber who took everything away from her, she pretended to be her friend right from highschool just to stab her in the back and she succeeded greatly.

"You can't really mean that Seo-yeon. She took Do-yun's love from you and Ji-hoon." Ma-ri gasped but Seo-yeon shook her head in disapproval, still watching her sleeping son.

"No she didn't, Do-yun never loved us, I was the fool…. I was the one who believed all his lies and gave up what I wanted most in this world. What my family wanted most in this life, I forgot all about that and blindly gave up on my one talent. Why? All because of a man and where is the man now? He left me for my friend. One of my two friends whom I can tell everything to."

She chuckled bitterly as she recalled the moment in her head, "she just slept with my husband once and all his love for me vanished like they never existed, he tried to pull up his acting for six good years and I stupidly fell for it. I'm the fool in this story, a big one." Seo-yeon smiled sadly.

"It's not your fault Seo-yeon. How were you supposed to know? You truly loved him to the point of giving up on your childhood dream just to be his wife." Ma-ri explained to her friend, "Come on girl, I don't want to hear you blaming yourself ever again."

Ma-ri frowned. "You did what you thought was right even though it turned out to be wrong."

"Thanks Ma-ri but I still blame myself." Seo-yeon groaned. "You can turn the TV on."

Ma-ri looked at her friend for better approval before turning the TV back on and thankfully they weren't talking about Eun-ji anymore.

Very early the following morning, the sun peeked into the ward and Seo-yeon fell asleep next to her son's bed. Her head was resting on the bed while she sat on the chair.

She woke up from her slumbers when someone kept patting her hair gently and lovingly.

As soon as she felt the little hand patting her hair, a smile worked its way up to her lips. She opened her eyes and saw her son looking at her with a bright smile.

"Good morning momma."

"Morning Ji-hoon." She smiled and the boy beamed happily, looking at his mother who gave his head a gentle pat. "How was your night? Have you said your morning prayers?"

He nodded, "Ji-hoon's night was fine momma. I said my morning prayers already." He smiled. "And how was momma's night? Did she have a nice sleep?"

"Yes I did. Thank you so much sweetheart." Seo-yeon pecked his cheeks and he giggled happily.

"Oh my goodness. Ji-hoon is awake!"

Ma-ri happily chimed in with two bags in her hands. She had changed her clothes into some nice white joggers and a tank top.

She quickly dropped the bags on the empty seat close to Ji-hoon's bedside and hugged the little boy who was eagerly waiting for her embrace.

"Good morning to you aunt Ma-ri." He said and she patted his hair gently.

"And good morning to you too sweetheart, I hope you had a nice sleep?" Ma-ri asked and the little boy nodded.

"Good. I brought you breakfast, I'm sure the nurses have given you a good bath so it's the perfect time to have your breakfast."

"Thank you aunt Ma-ri." Ji-hoon smiled warmly, watching his aunt Ma-ri serve him breakfast. Seo-yeon smiled gently as she watched both of them interact.

"Go take your bath Seo-yeon. I brought some clothes for you. Ge-un drove me home last night so I brought some of my new clothes for you since you couldn't go back to your place." Ma-ri handed her the second bag and Seo-yeon nodded with an appreciative smile before walking to the bathroom to have her bath.
