Chapter 2: Battle of Dan Kurh

Bog, high chief of the Gork confederation and chieftain of the Mahk tribe, together with the other chieftains stood atop their mounts as they surveyed the vast army of the Terkits that stood before them a few kilometers away.

"They numbered in the hundreds of thousands!" Tulka, chief of the Prekta clan, gaped in open mouthed fear and awe.

Bog, Irritated at the cowardly reaction of the large hunching green-skinned figure besides him, spat on the ground before opening his mouth up to speak.

"Pah, that is just numbers, we the Gorks have the strength and courage enough to destroy that pitiful mob of shameless Terkits who dared to call themselves warriors?!" Bog mockingly said as he reigned his mount forward and stared at the chiefteins before him.

"Warriors, although they outnumber us two to one, don't forget that we have Kasharu's blessings and strength, together we will prevail and triumph over them!" Bog said as he raised his battle axe high on the sky for everyone to see.

Tulka, obviously ashamed of his previous actions, hung his head low as the rest of the chiefteins cheered wildly.

"It is settled then, the gork will fight today!" Amako, chieftain of the Zoga clan, excitingly said as he turned his back against the cheiftains and stared at their own Gorkan army which numbered a hundred thousand.

The gorks, are a proud race of orcs consisting of hundreds of clans and tribes that inhabits the Gorkatak mountains, their own small realm inside the vast continent of Eglesia.

South of the Gorkatak mountains lies the Gray valley, the territory and home of the Terkits, another race of orcs albeit much more savage and primitive than their rivals, the Gorkans.

The Gorkans were eventually surprised and shocked at the unexpected united invasion by the Terkits as they were known to be always savage and incapable of doing great feats such as unifactions or any grand scale invasion.

Although the Gorkans weren't also united and clans and tribes often fought each other for petty reasons, they were more civilized and often engaged in temporary alliance and trade agreements with each other whenever an oppurtunity came such as this great confederation that was formed after the massive inavsion launched by the Terkits on their territory.

A similar thing also happened in the past when the Mescaya in the north, another race of orcs, started launching raids on their northern territory which prompted the northern clans and tribes to form an alliance with the united goal of destroying any Mescayan raiders that dared to cross their lands.

But right now the threat to the south was too great that all of the Gorkan clans and tribes was forced to put aside their petty differences and disputes to form a united confederation against the Terkits, a first time in their history of over a thousand years were they ever united such as right now.

'Something's wrong with them.' Bog thought as he stared at the silent warriors in the Terkit's ranks.

'It seems something is driving them towards here, what could that be I do not know.' Bog clenched his fist that was holding the horse reins and faced the hundred thousand Gorkan warriors assembled before him.

He could feel their nervousness but at the same time, an eagerness to prove their worth and strength.

Their formations was divided into three groups, the center which numbered forty thousand, the right with thirty thousand and the left with the same numbers as the right.

Their ranks were 15 orcs deep, enough to halt and stop a frontal charge if it ever came to that.

Not only that, the front ranks of the center formation were all composed of cavalry, which numbered eight thousand riders.

Bog was suddenly filled with pride as he examined his tribe's finest cavalry, the Mahk tribe was the only tribe in the entire Gorkatak mountains to specialize in cavalries and has the most number of them than any other clans and tribes combined could have.

When suddenly trumpets and horns started to blow from the Terkit's side, indicating that the battle has finally begun.

The first row of Terkit footwarriors started to surged forward, the beatings of war drums audible from the distance as tens and thousands of Terkit footwarriors stretching in an entire two kilometers marched towards the Gorkan front.

'It has now begun.' Bog thought excitedly as he reined in his horse hard, started to turn and head towards the front of the Mahk cavalries.

He spotted the rest of the chieftains still gathered amongst each other, talking with themselves.

"What are you all doing?! return to your designated clan or tribe's troops and prepare for combat!" Bog yelled towards the chieftains, startling some of them and causing them to scatter and head towards their own tribe or clan's positions within the army.

Turning his mount around, he began to pace towards the rows of cavalries that lined up in front of him.

Looking them straight in the eye, Bog can see each warrior's determination and pride.

"Warriors! the day has finally come to soak your blades with the enemies blood!" Bog started, causing some of the warriors bang their wooden shields using the pommels of their blades.

"Ride with your chief, as what your ancestors did for a thousand years!" some started to chant war verses while more joined in with the banging of shields.

"Fight! for it is our way, kill! for it is our way, Win! for it is our way, and die! for it is our way!" Bog raised his battle axe high in the air and began waving it.

"Raagh!" a warrior screamed, followed by another, then another, until the whole area started to shake with the tremor of a thousand warriors screaming their battle cries.

"Cavalry!" Bog said before pointing his axe towards the advancing Terkit warriors.

"Charge!"

And just like that, eight thousand riders surged forward like a wave towards the advancing Terkit footwarriors.

The Terkits, seeing the giant cloud of dust kicked up by eight thousand horses along with riders heading towards them, stopped their advance and started forming up a defensive shield wall.

Pikes and spears made up of stone, flint, and copper were all lowered at the same time, all of it pointing towards the direction of the incoming Gork cavalry.

"Yaagh!" Riders screaming from the top of their lungs raised their blades towards the line of Terkit shields in front of them which seems to get bigger and bigger at the passing of each seconds.

"Faster warriors, faster!" Bog, who was at the front and personally leading the charge, urged the riders behind him.

It was only a few hundred meters before they can finally reach the enemy.

Now a hundred meters.

Fifty meters.

Ten meters.

Bog, who was at the very forefront of the charge was the first to collide against the wall of spears and shields, followed by the wave of riders screaming hysterically behind him.

A loud booming crashing sound erupted afterwards as Bog, along with his warriors swatted away the spears and shields of the Terkits like it was nothing.

Orcs flew high above as the Gorkan charge continued to penetrate the solid wall of the Terkits like hot knife against butter.

Meanwhile, the cheering Gork warriors who witnessed their cavalry charge plowing through the Terkit ranks also began to surge forward, led by their tribe and clan chieftains.

"What are you fools doing?! your orders are to charge the enemy once our entire cavalry was surrounded!" Amako of the Zoga clan scolded the chieftains that were leading the infantry charge.

Tulka of the Prekta however, scoffed at him and continued to lead his clan's warriors towards the raging battle a kilometer in front of them.

"That arrogant Bog can't just have the glory all for himself, can he?" Tulka said, still with his back turned towards Amako.

Amako can only just watch in frustration as tens and thousands of their own warriors charged towards the Terkits.

"C-Chieftain?" a Zoga warrior next to him asked in confusion, torn between whether to stay with Amako or join the charge along with most of their warriors.

He stared at the warrior besides him before turning his gaze back at the ensuing battle in the distance.

He then took a deep breath before raising his right arm for everyone to see then clench his fist.

Meanwhile, the battle in the distance was now turning into a one-sided slaughter.

Terkit warriors were slain left and right, unable to fight back as the Mahk cavalry mowed them down without mercy.

Particularly Bog, who was now grinning like a maniac, enjoying the dance of battle as he chopped every Terkit that he came in contact with.

Just as he was about to charge again deep in the enemy lines, a Gork rider suddenly called out to him.

"High chieftain, I bring bad news!" this was already enough to catch Bog's attention.

"What?!" he suddenly turned towards the nervous rider and spat on his face, annoyed at being disturbed in the middle of the battle, but was forced to listen due to the urgency.

"There, our footwarriors!" the rider pointed to a certain direction.

Following the direction, Bog couldn't help but spat out a curse as he observed the new change happening in the battlefield.

In the distance on their left, most of their footwarriors assigned on the center and left flank were charging towards the Terkit's right flank, unaware of another host of Terkit cavalry moving towards their flank to intercept them.

'Curse these fools!' Bog clenched his fist so hard to the point of it now bleeding.

"Also there, my high chief" the rider nervously pointed his finger towards their right.

Following the finger's direction, Bog couldn't help but scream in rage as he saw his footwarriors assigned on the right flank who was minutes ago was charging towards the Terkit's left flank, now a mob of panicked fleeing orcs as Terkit cavalry sweeped through their ranks, decimating large numbers of his warriors in a matter of seconds.

"May Kasharu protect us all." The rider next to Bog suddenly muttered a silent prayer.
