Chapter 39: Ch 54: A human's Heart
Kai was in the gathering room. Where he faced the large square frame window, viewing one of the side gardens. With his arms crossed behind his back.
He heard footsteps coming up from behind. Following that was the voice of his father, Mr. Collin. "I'm proud of you, my son," he praised.
"Why's that?" Kai scarcely whispered while he still gazed out the window.
A smile formed on Mr. Collin's lips when he said. "I'm proud to see you were able to help Victoria during her seizure without feeding on her because of her bloody nose. I'd say you are ready to marry her." Mr. Collin paused for a second as Kai turned to confront him. For the time, Kai didn't wear his dark shades. His eyes showed his agate color was clear from being blood-red.
"You're getting control over your predator side," Mr. Collin added.
"I am only doing it for Victoria," Kai implored in a softer depressed tone.
Mr. Collin knew his son was still upset about yesterday's incident with Victoria finding Orlando cheating on her.
"You made the right decision by allowing Victoria to catch Orlando in the act of sexually cheating on her."
Without holding back, Kai's eyes began to turn into that captivating blood-red color. A mixture of pain and greater anger consumed him.
"All that did was cause her pain!" Kai officially snapped. "And she still loves Orlando even after finding him in bed with another female!"
"Kai!" An elegant voice echoed. Along with the feminine voice, a pair of heels was heard walking into the room. The defined beauty with bright fiery red hair came walking in like a supermodel, wearing a sexy red cocktail dress. Her red hair was curled in big bouncy bleach waves. The lipstick on her full lips was bright red. Then her eyeshadow was a darker nude brown on her oval-shaped dreamy color eyes. And her long eyelashes were boldened in thick mascara and eyeliner. She had a cute straight small nose that matched her heart-shaped face. Kai looked at the elegant woman that he loves dearly. After all, she is his mother.
"What is it, Mother," Kai addressed Mrs.
Collin, taking a stance by her husband.
Mrs. Collin smiled gently at her youngest grown-up offspring. "You must understand that a human heart is different from ours. With Victoria being a human girl, she'll carry more emotions in her heart. Her heart is like that of a tree, during the hibernating seasons. Trees will fall into hibernation in separate time frames. Each leaf on every tree discolors at its own pace before it withers off the branch. Then once all the leaves are rotting into the ground will enrich the soils that feed the tree's roots beneath the earth. The tree will look cold and dead until it regrows."
Kai nods as he listens intently to his mother's wise words as she continues.
"New leaves will sprout from the bare branches and then blossoms will bloom into flowers. However, that process can take time, and that is what you need to give Victoria, is time. Let the leaves she had for Orlando, first die. Then she'll be dead inside for however long it takes for her to heal. That is where you come in, and help her sprout the first leaf with you and before too long your love together will blossom."
Kai was flustered, he understood his mother's wise metaphor but he wasn't sure he had that kinda patience. Kai was heartless and his mate being human was a challenge for him. Since he failed to raise her from infancy.
That mistake Kai made drove him to madness. So mad that he ended up biting the inside of his mouth.
'This is all my fault for my selfishness,' thought Kai. As he grows more aggravated with himself. 'I did this to my mate,' Kai pitifully admitted to himself. Her heart is bleeding because of what I'd done, not Orlando.'
His mind wouldn't shut up, and kept taking him down into a deeper depression. That depression only triggered his anger and he was swallowed up by his grief for Victoria.
"Thank you, mother," Kai bite the tip of his tongue to say this with a phony smile. "I will be patient with her."
Kai tamed his red eyes back to his dreamy agate color. Then he took his shades that were clipped to the tiny pocket on the vest he wore over his black dressy shirt. Today Kai was dressed in gothic punk style. He even had a chain going down his black dress pants.
"I'm glad to hear it," said Mrs. Collin as Kai put his shades back on. "I'll be leaving now with Victoria to pick out a wedding dress."
She kissed her husband and then turned her heel, leaving. Kai finally took a breath of relief to see his mother gone her way. He hated lying to his mother. The truth was Kai wasn't sure if he had meant what he said. That possessive side of Kai's ego wasn't going to tolerate Victoria loving Orlando. Even if he had to further break Victoria's heart, then he most certainly will, he reckoned.
'No, I will be reasonable,'Kai mentally fights his thoughts.
His love for Victoria was strong like his controlling ego.
"I'll be out with my friends," Kai said as he began to leave.
"If you hunt, do remember to clean up your mess!" Mr. Collin made that loud and clear. Kai turned around with a snicker on his lip before he disappeared in front of his father's eyes.
"Darn you, Kai!" Mr. Collin grumbled, taking his phone out to text the sheriff and other high authorities to inform them that his son will likely be making messy kills. He sighed at how foolish he was for thinking Kai will change.
Just when he thought Kai was making progress to control his hungry predator inside himself. It turns out Kai is only swindling everyone. Although he should've known the progress Kai's made had only been with Victoria. 'Well, it's a start,' thought Mr. Collin.
