Chapter 94: Strange Promises

George and Cynthia spent the night in the hospital, the cafeteria was open 24/7 and so they camped out there. He ached to take her to a nearby hotel but she wouldn't hear of it, exhausted, she kept nodding off with her elbow on the table or her face tilting left and right. George tried to subtly place her head on his shoulder but each time she understood what he was doing her eyes would snap wide open.

She refused to sleep.

It was the darkest hour right before dawn when George received a call from the surgeon who saved Henry's life. Cynthia placed a hand over her frantically beating heart, she braced herself for the worst news possible, her ex had gone through long hours of surgery and as the doctor said before, these hours were critical. This might be the call she had been dreading.
