Chapter 2: The Interview

<Aurora>

Sitting with a group of interviewees, all I could do was pray with all my heart for this interview to go well. My previous interviews were not very much of a pleasant memory for me but I hoped that this time maybe I could make it. Though I'm not nervous or unsure about my abilities, in fact, I'm really confident but my past experience always raised a doubt in me somewhere deep inside.

"I'm so nervous" a girl sitting next to me mumbled to herself which was audible enough for me to hear. I turned towards the girl and asked, "Why so?", the girl first blankly looked at me but eventually opened up.

"Actually, this is my first ever job interview and I'm not very experienced as well so I doubt I will get this job" she explained her worry. I smiled at her before speaking,

"Don't be. If you have the talent, you'll get this job. This company is known for its honest recruitment. And you know what? I'll tell you my secret" I gestured to the girl to come closer and she hesitantly did.

"Look the interviewer in the eye, nod when he's asking a question, answer confidently even if you doubt your answer, praise their competence, and lastly, believe...in yourself and your fate. Just leave it to your destiny. If that job is meant for you, you'll get it no matter what. And if not? You will not get it no matter how excellently you performed" I said. The girl wondered for a bit before smiling widely.

"Thank you. That helped a lot!" she exclaimed, causing me to smile. I nodded as we both reverted our focus to the surroundings.

A group of interviewees came out of the room and another group went inside. I was preparing myself for this final face-off and soon last night's events flashed in my head. I remembered Hernan's heart delivered through Abigail and soon a smile appeared on my face, "Silly", I said.

"Interviewee number 206, 215, 221, and 227, Now is your turn. Please follow me" a lady in formal clothing announced. I stood up and got prepared as it was now my turn since 227 is my number. The girl sitting beside me mouthed 'Good luck' to me to which I mouthed a 'Thank you' and went inside.

"So, Aurora Gray?" the interviewer spoke to which I replied, "Yes".

"I can see that you are fluent in English, Arabic, and French but, your past jobs raise a doubt for me" the interviewer showed his concern. "May I ask what type of doubt?" I asked.

"Hmm, you worked at multiple convenience stores, and cafes, and your last job was...an accountant at a local clothing store. Why do you think you are eligible for this position?" the interviewer asked. I took a long deep breath and cleared my mind before answering,

"You are correct. I may not be that eligible in your opinion but I am more than confident in my experience and skill set. I am excellent with management and communication, which is the biggest advantage I have. And I am well aware of the local trends and what attracts customers due to these customer service job experiences. And I am confident that you might also be aware of the fact that my experience and knowledge will help you in various ways in the future" I replied confidently.

I could feel the wide intense gazes of other interviewees sitting beside me, they were obviously shocked at my comeback, and I as I could see, so were the interviewers. The interviewer who looked a little old was silent from the very beginning but after hearing my response, he let out a laugh, confusing everyone, including me.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Please continue" he said and again sat back quietly. The interview continued and after a few questions, the interview ended.

"Why did I do that~?!" I cried as I gripped the roots of my hair, "I've gone mad. This is bad. I'm not gonna get the job!! Ahh!" I let out my frustration, not caring about my surroundings. The people were just looking at me as if I was some mad person. Well, I wouldn't blame them. They are not aware of the mess I created.

Soon the bus arrived and everyone got on it. I also somehow managed to unsteadily get on it. The whole ride went by me being a depressed mess.

"I'm home," I said in an almost lifeless tone.

"Sis!"

"Rora!"

Two familiar voices echoed in my ears as I closed my eyes, "I'm not ready for this," I said as I took off my shoes and headed inside where I encountered two overly excited humans.

One was no other than my younger sister, Abigail and the other was a raven-haired, handsome young guy, who was called Hernan Howard by birth but was mostly known to be Abigail's sweet little boyfriend.

"What happened?!" both the younger ones exclaimed together, startling me. Their excitement only made me more anxious than I already was.

"It was...good~," I spoke, averting my eyes while the other two's shoulders drooped. 'Puppies' was the only thought that came to my mind when I looked at the two sulking.

"So, it wasn't as good as it should be" Abigail pouted. "It was not that bad~," I said, slipping through between them. "But your expression says otherwise" Hernan also sulked.

"Look, as I always say. If it's meant for me, it will be mine. If not, then no matter how hard I try it won't ever be mine" I said while I washed my hands and took out ingredients from the fridge.

"I still find it hard to believe that you started believing in fate. I mean, there was a time that you thought that destiny-type things don't even exist" Abigail said as she sat on the kitchen counter.

"It is true that you write your own destiny but there are still some things that are just not in your hands. Things that have already been decided. And I started believing in it because of the two of you. Get off the counter" I slapped Abigail's arm as she whined.

"Because of us?" Hernan got confused. "Abi didn't tell you? That's odd." I side-eyed Abigail and started to cut the veggies, then I continued,

"I started believing in fate because after you entered Abigail's life, things took a different turn. She started to smile more, laugh out loud, threw silly jokes, and got clumsy," a giggle left my mouth, "She changed. And your birthdays! You were born in the same year, in the same month only two days apart. We never knew you existed but when you entered our life, I'm glad you existed"

The atmosphere went silent and a moment later, I heard sniffles. My eyes widened as I looked up only to see Hernan's watery eyes, "-sniffle- Rora~," Hernan started to cry dramatically. "Don't cry, baby. Or else I'm gonna start to cry as well" Abigail also joined the dramatic act.

"Here they go again," I rolled my eyes and placed the veggies in the pan. I was used to their dramatic asses by now. But every time this act happens I would be lying if I said I didn't feel entertained. Does that make me a villain?

"I -sniffle- didn't know you -sniffle- loved me so dearly? Oh~" Hernan said as he blew his nose on the tissue. I sighed, "Dinner will be ready in a while. I'll go freshen up till then. Set up the table when you're done with your dramatic asses" I said and walked passed them.

"Oh, Rora -sniffle-"

"Sis -sniffle-"

"We love you!!" I heard both shout when I entered the room and I couldn't help but helplessly shake my head while smiling like an idiot.
