As night fell, Ciaran, Lux, and Delia made their way to the bedroom, only to find there were only two beds available.
"GIRLS GET THEIR PRIVACY!!" Delia declared, shooing the boys away.
Ciaran and Lux exchanged a glance, Ciaran looked away while Lux seemed disappointed. Lux went off to find extra sheets for himself.
"Are you blushing, brother? Are you thinking about something?" Delia teased with a mischievous smile.
Ciaran stumbled over his words, attempting to deflect her question.
"Yea, you like him, don't you?" Delia prodded.
Ciaran turned towards his sister before letting a sigh. "I don't know anymore. He's a nice guy but somehow giving me butterflies but I like woman!" Ciaran blurted out in frustration.
"Like who?" Lux returned with the sheets, unaware of the conversation.
"Nothing, just talking about… uhh dogs! We like dogs!" Delia quickly improvised.
As they settled in to sleep, Delia couldn't shake the need to understand her brother's feelings. She dragged him out of bed to the library for a heart-to-heart.
"Is it true? Do you like him?" Delia asked earnestly.
Ciaran's cheeks flushed red once again as he struggled to articulate his feelings.
"I don't know either. Maybe it's because he's kind, brave, an explorer, and a little cute…" Ciaran confessed, gazing up at the ceiling.
But Delia reminded him of their royal duties and the expectations placed upon them.
"Maybe you did grow a little bit, just by looking at your attitude," Ciaran mused, smiling and tousling Delia's hair.
Then, Ciaran proposed a radical idea: for Delia to be Queen while he lived as a normal village boy.
Silence fell over them as Delia processed his words, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Without me, you wouldn't be bossed around by me. You can just be queen," Ciaran reassured her.
But Delia couldn't contain her emotions, expressing her fear of being without her brother.
"Hey, hey, look at me. You're 13 already and soon to be 14. In another 4 more years, you're gonna be an adult already. So stop crying," Ciaran comforted her gently.
Delia wiped away her tears and managed a smile, reassured by her brother's words.
