Chapter 9: The Prince

I stood there in a panic. As the guard had said, no one cared if the prisoner lived or died. It was apparent that someone had poisoned my dinner. It would have been me on the floor if it hadn't been for the rats. So who was behind this? Could it have been Ian?

As my mind was racing, I heard footsteps outside the cell again. I clutched my skirt nervously. Two guards came. They opened the cell door and took me away. I didn't dare ask where they were taking me along the way. They didn't put the prisoner's chain on me. The guards even kept their distance. I hope they weren't taking me to the execution ground.

I was taken to the palace where I had been during the day. This time I didn't go through the long corridors. Instead, I climbed up the narrow stairs and through the hidden doors. Finally, I was taken to a small room. When I opened the door, two servants were waiting for me inside.
