Chapter 14: Chapter 13 Willow pov

I sat on my bed, staring at my phone. It practically burned in my hands as I contemplated the call I needed to make. Sloan. One name. With so many possibilities tied to it. I didn't know what to say if he answered. Much less if he didn't. I wanted so badly to accept him. But I was still so hurt. I think only time could heal that wound. Although only time could answer that. And it was time I felt like I didn't have to offer. I didn't want to stay and wait just to feel that hurt of rejection again. Sasha agreed in my mind. Howling at me to just drop the burning phone and go back to bed. He could wait another day. It wouldn't hurt anyone. Though, what if that day made all the difference. Finally without thinking too hard, I pressed call. I immediately felt my breathing stop. Pretty sure my heart stopped too. Every ring felt like a decade. After an eternity, it picked up.

"Willow? Are you okay?" came the familiar voice that made my stomach drop. Now I was hyperventilating. I choked trying to speak and tears ran down my face. I didn't even know what to tell him. Sloan knew me already though as his voice rang out again, "stay there, I will be to you in twenty minutes." And he hung up.

Sloan walked in to find me still shaking and crying on my bedroom floor, unmoved. Phone still pressed against my ear. His strong arms wrapped around me and lifted me to my bed. He didn't speak, just laid there and held me as though it was the most natural thing between us. It felt like it was. Like I belonged in his arms, inhaling his strong cypress scent. I nuzzled against his chest and Sasha, the betrayer that she is, began to purr. Finally his laughter broke the silence. A deep, throaty laugh. So wonderful. How had I never took the time to notice these things about him? Then I felt irritable. Why was Sloan laughing at me? Was my pain so amusing?

Cursing under my breath, I moved away from him in a jerky motion. But his arms just tightened. "I am not laughing at you dear. Your wolf just amuses me. So much strength and such a volatile nature from you, meanwhile your wolf purrs at my nearness. It is endearing indeed."

"oh, yeah she can be a bit of a tart," I reply softly, "I am sorry for this mess today. I just needed to speak with you so we can try to move forward and yet I could not even speak when you answered. I was so overwhelmed with worry and fear."

"You should never fear me, Willow, I mean you no harm. I know our past meetings have been tense and uncomfortable but I do adore you. You are my mate and I would give you the world if you asked for it."

Finally, finally. He accepted me in his words. No buts. No ifs. Just acceptance that I am his mate. And as if on cue, Sasha purrs even louder. Bringing another rumbling laugh from the chest I lay against.
