Chapter 4: 4. Trouble behind

In the relatively busy town of Gent in the valley right by the snowy mountains, a male orc stood outside a weathered down stone building. He had beside him a giant hammer, lying on the floor on its head blocking the entrance into the building. Many outside glanced in curiosity but wouldn't dare approach, after all the orc had a menacing aura about him.

Inside though it wasn't all calm, bodies strewn about whether they were unconscious or out right dead it was hard to tell. They had a withered look about them, sunken cheeks, dried up skin and a very pale complexion. The only one left still standing looked on in horror, barely containing his shivering as he was held up against the wall by his collar. The one holding him up had a wry smile strewn across his face. In his other hand he held a knife bringing it to his mouth and giving it a lick before letting out an unnerving chuckle.

"I hope you're ready to talk while you still can. I've yet to have my fun yet so I'm hoping you actually play stubborn for a bit," the hafling, a mix of human and a wolfkin smiled even more sadistically.

"If that coward refuses to speak let me deal with him," a chilling voice came from behind the two. A woman raised from her chair, slowly moved towards the two. The man being restrained gulped on his saliva. He feared the lady more than the man holding him especially after what she did to his colleagues.

They literally had their life drained away from them, nothing more than husks at this point and the lady licked her lips once she was done, as if savouring a delicious meal. Her appearance as well added an element of fear. Dressed in all black, including her dress, heels and wide brimmed hat she looked like she was preparing to attend a funeral. Her eyes were black, not just the irises, all of it like staring in to the void and her skin gave her a look as if she were one of the undead but no, she was very much alive.

"As if witch. You've already had your share of fun. This one's mine," As if being fought over by your potential murderers wasn't scary enough.

"Look, if you want to walk out of here alive you better tell us where those pointy eared bastards went or me and my knife here are gonna have a bit of fun slicing you up piece...by... piece," the halfling skillfully flipped his blade in between his fingers then brought to the man's neck, pushing it so it drew just a bit of blood.

"My goodness Roa, stop with the theatrics and get to the matter already. We have no time to waste." the witch spoke feeling very impatient at the moment.

"Alright Tessa, I know you can't wait to get back to your lover and get your quota of head pats," Roa smirked as he managed to rile a hiss from Tessa.

"Okay mister, you heard the lady. Spill it, we know your companions are in tow with the elves. We just want to know where they went," Roa let go off the man's neck, dropping him to the floor.

"Please...I don't know. Gus said the elves asked to keep the information confidential. Only Gus and his crew know where the elves were going to. I'm telling you we didn't know," The man pleaded but only earn a sigh from Roa.

"Maybe a stab or two will help refresh your memory," Roa moved suddenly, punching the man grabbing his hand and pinning his palm to the wall with the knife.

The man screamed in pain but his other arm was restrained by Roa, he couldn't try to remove the knife if he wanted.

"I hope you're ready to talk now," Roa ignored the man's snivelling and the tears rolling down his face.

"I really don't know. But...but if I had to guess...they went through the mountains--argh!!" The man groaned as Roa removed the knife and let him go. He plopped down t the ground, sweat running down his face wetting the collar of his shirt.

"Well then, continue..." Roa stepped back, giving him some room.

"The elves...they seemed to be in a hurry. I wager they were looking for the shortest way to the other side of the mountain and that would be through it...but at this time of the year it's too dangerous," the man clutched at his bleeding hand as the pain intensified, "Only Gus would be crazy enough to go on such a suicidal journey, if they're still alive they would have probably made camp at the adventurer town."

"Is that so?" This time Tessa spoke. A huge smile crawled across her face, creepy enough to spook both the man and Roa.

"You have to stop doing that," Roa sighed, "and you, if what you say is true then you have my gratitude. As a reward, how about I make your death painless. I promise you won't feel a thing," Roa chuckled, inching closer to his prey while he dangled his knife menacingly.

The man was absolutely terrified, he was just short of soiling himself as he accepted his impending fate, until the door suddenly burst open and the orc stepped in.

He ran his eyes all over the scene, the corpses laying all about eliciting a click from him.

"Quite barbaric. The two of you simply have no decency," he spoke in a deep, gruff yet gentle voice.

"Hey, it wasn't me," Roa raised up his hands in innocence while Tessa simple couldn't care.

"Good news though, we know where the elves are. This man was kind enough to direct us on our way," he pointed at the trembling figure still sat on the floor, " I was thinking of giving him a nice reward." The way Roa said it gave the orc an impression of what he wanted to do. The orc could only sigh.

"Leave him be, you've caused enough deaths today. Besides, we need to be on the move."

"You're no fun Jazz," Roa sighed, giving up on killing the man and going towards the door but not before whispering something ,"Wouldn't it be better if you just give in to your desires though rather than being so... pretentious, it's disgusting," he chuckled as he passed Jazz and exited the building.

Jazz turned to look at Tessa who ignored him and just left as well. Then it was just him and the man.

"No need to be scared, sorry about your friends. We'll be on our way," Jazz tried his best impression of a warm smile. Of course with his huge tusk like cannines jutting from his mouth he could do nothing but look menacing.

However the man did respond, nodding his head in response while silently sobbing. He slowly stood up to try and find something to stop the bleeding till Jazz called out to him.

"Just one more thing, would you also say sorry to your friends for me," Jazz said, his smile still plastered across his face.

The man was puzzled by this, after all, his friends were already dead. But the feeling, didn't last long as his was suddenly overshadowed by the large orc. Dread filled his body and before he could even let out a scream, everything turned dark.

Jazz clapped his hands together with the man's head right in-between his meaty palms. With enough force to crush a boulder the man's head exploded instantly. Flesh, blood and bone splattered everywhere and a good bunch of it went all over Jazz. However in the moment it didn't matter, the smile on his face was now even wider and the look in his eyes more intense.

The thrill of squashing the man like a bug filled his whole being and he lost himself to it. Though it only lasted a minute as he took in one deep breath the ripped of the headless corpse shirt and wiped of all the brain matter from himself.

And as he stepped out his composure regained, Roa could only stare at him before spitting on the ground. Jazz didn't mind it though. Tessa, well, couldn't careless. He picked up his hammer and slung it over his shoulder, his eyes fixed on the next part of their chase, the treacherous mountains.

"Well then, let's get moving."
