I decide not to join Mariano to work today—not because I'm preparing for our dinner date tonight, but because my period just started and I'm feeling like a bitch and a sloth at the same time. And I don't want to snap at him if I become suddenly unreasonably bitchy because—hormones.

So he picks me up at six in the evening. He's gone inside his room to change his clothes. When he comes out, he's swapped his dress shirt and suit with a black turtleneck and dinner jacket. He looks a lot more casual and handsome. I quite like Mariano's fashion sense despite the lack of colors in them—the variety of texture in some of his outfits more than makeup for it.

The way his gaze rakes over my body that's hugged in a simple black form-fitting slip dress and three-inch glitter-gold heels makes my heart race as I descend the stairs and join him at the foyer.

"I love that color on you." He kisses my cheek with a hint of smile in his eyes. "You look incredible."
