Luna was discharged and we managed to convince her mom to let her stay in my house. This is to hide the fact that Luna's face had healed.
Since she had just been attacked, her mother had sympathy for her and agreed to it.
The plan was to keep her in my house for a month and the. reveal that the burns healed naturally without leaving scars.
Although it was a dumb plan, it was the only thing we could think of at that point and it could work, as these doctors said that she might heal. If anyone gets too suspicious, we can always say she went for a plastic surgery.
Luna slept with me in my room and she surprisingly changed a lot after we returned from hospital. She always hugged my arm telling that she felt good while doing it, she became kind, but also scary in some situations.
Just her glare was enough to send shivers down my spine. I wasn't even afraid of a dead body, but her glare managed to scare me.
As for my body, it had also changed ever since that incident. I wanted to ask my mom about it, but later decided not to.
My mom isn't a doctor, so she would take me to one if I told her. And after the doctor checks me and finds something strange, I would become a lab rat like they show in books, shows and movies.
As for the changes in my body, I tested it out for a week when Luna and I were admitted in the hospital. The first thing is that, I felt energized when I was near the mortuary.
That was similar to the first time I felt that feeling, which was when I found a dead body near the cafe.
So, I concluded that death has something to do with my strength and decided to call it death energy.
Next, I needed to know what the effects of this death energy were. So, I tested it in my house with Luna and the results were shocking.
Since I felt full of strength, I thought my strength improved. So, I tested my physical strength and it was amazing. I was faster, stronger and smarter than any normal 7 year old kid.
Luna also had improved strength, but not as much as me. This I predicted that was because I shared some of my death energy to her for healing her.
Now that I knew that death of someone would help me get stronger, I decided what I will do in the future.
5 years passed by and we all loved happily. Luna and I kissed almost everyday, cuddle while sleeping and also take baths together. I almost felt like a married man. Luna fought with her mom and somehow managed to convince her to let Luna stay with us.
During these five years, I would occasionally visit all hospitals and graves to collect the death energy and I had enough energy that at the age of 12, I was already stronger than most grownups.
It was a normal morning. I woke up due to the sunlight that fell on my eyes. I slowly opened my eyes and found a beautiful bright face in front of me.
She was still sleeping, so I just slowly placed my palm on her cheeks. Even this touch was enough to wake her up.
Luna slowly opened her eyes and smiled at me. That smile was enough to keep me happy the whole day. She came close and we kissed for a while and moved back when we ran out of air.
We then heard a voice say "You two look like a married couple. You are going to make your single mom jealous."
This was something normal, so we decided to ignore her and continued to kiss. This made her shout in a playful tone "You both really want me to feel jealous right. Fine, do what you want and come for breakfast after you are done." and she left the room.
We then showered together and got ready to go to school. We walked to the dining table and mom was watching the news.
We were having our breakfast when the beautiful news reporter lady announced "Phantom lady has stolen another precious gem last night. Police have also received information that it was sold in the black market the same day. Many rich collectors, who collect rare stones, are furious as to why the police still couldn't catch her."
Then it changed to a screen where a policeman with brown hair and black moustache had a mic before him.
A man asked "Sir, Phantom lady has appeared in New York 7 years ago and we still don't even know how she looks. What do you have to say about this?"
The police officer had an angry look, but he still controlled his anger and said "I regret saying this, but we don't even know what her age is. She appears out of nowhere and takes the jewel without alerting anyone.
But remember this, she isn't just a normal thief. She has killed some bodyguards that were guarding the safe, so she is a murderer and we will make sure she is punished for that."
The news reporter continued with other news. Mom looked at the news and asked me "Itsuki, what would you do if Phantom lady was someone you knew and is close to you?"
I didn't understand why she was asking me this, but I could already think of some possible reasons. But I still answered honestly "I don't care even if they are serial killers. If I love them, I will do everything I can to save them."
This seemed to brighten her mood. Mom said in her usual playful tone "Wow, you are a smooth talker. Luna, you have to be careful. With his looks and playful nature, you might have a lot of competition in the future."
Luna replied "All day, I just defend him from other bitches of our school." and I replied "You also have a lot of people after you. And besides, who in the whole school looks better than you."
She smile at my comment and immediately changed back to her angry look. She said "Don't think I didn't notice how you and that junior Minerva Glass have been flirting."
"She is just a good friend" I replied and our argument went on till we reached school. While at breakfast, mom just looked at me with loving eyes.
The school was normal and boring. I somehow managed to understand all academic books, even the ones that were on a university level.
Luna also showed similar ability, but just little more than normal students while mine was way past that. So, I concluded that the death energy also made us smarter.
Luna and I returned home from school and were watching Titanic while cuddling each other. It was already dark outside as we had to go the store to rent the movie.
As we were watching the movie, we heard some noises from our rooms. We both looked at each other and I slowly moved to our room, with a broom stick in my hand. It was the only weapon I found nearby.
I asked Luna to stay behind me as I slowly opened the door and held the broom tightly. I couldn't see anything, but I spotted a figure near my bed, breathing heavily and kneeling on the floor.
"Who are you? Are you here to steal something?" I asked as I turned on the lights and was shocked. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
My mom, kneeling beside my bed in a black skin tight dress, with bandages wrapped around her hands and waist.
There were bandages and a wig beside her. She was dressed exactly like Phantom lady, whose pics were released to the media.
That wasn't the shocking part, as I already had doubts about this today morning. The bandages wrapped around her waist were red.
I immediately dropped the broom and rushed to her. I helped her stand and laid her on the bed.
As I looked at her properly, she had multiple wounds, which I believe were due to a bullet.
Luna also entered the room, with her hand near her mouth, shocked to see mom with blood. She also was least bothered about her dress.
I immediately removed her dress and found three bullet wounds. I immediately started cleaning the wounds.
Mom caught my hand while I was cleaning her wound and said "Itsuki, although I am a thief, I only stole from rich bastards that cheat people to make money."
"You don't have to explain yourself. Now just stay awake for me." I said and wiped the wounds clean with cotton.
I needed the wound to be clean before I heal it, or else the wound would get worse in the future.
Mom caught my hand again and said "Itsuki, the police followed me here. I don't want to get you involved in this. Leave me here and run."
I shouted "Just shut up and stay still. I need to concentrate for this." and finished cleaning the wounds and removed the bullets.
While I was doing this, Luna took mom's Phantom lady clothes and burnt then in the fire place. Since they need time to burn, she threw some firewood to cover them.
I placed my hand on her chest, where the wound was too close to the heart, and started to send the death energy into her.
