Chapter 17: Harsh decision

Chapter seventeen

"Where did she say she's at?" Madam asks. Jake looks at her, at her reddish and swollen face.

He sighs," she hung up on me but she's safe"

"For now. We need to get her," she suggested.

" I will, I promise, "Jake picks up his phone and dial Gauis' number. He picks up immediately, "Hi Gaius".

"Are you ok? How is Jessica?"

"She's very fine. What about you and the others?"

" We were in the laboratory when it happened and we are still here"

" Stay there. We will meet you there soon," he hung up the call and looked over at the men staring at him," Get the guns. We are leaving Roderwall"

"Yes sir," they chorus and disperse.

Jake bend beside Jenny, "I promise to find Jessica but we have to get out of Roderwall"

Jenny nods once," Alright," then she cries more.

Since madam Jenny is the wife of a retired soldier. She's accorded the respect that's given to her husband, William. These two used to have a house full of bodyguards. Jessica used to have some too until the day she escaped them and fled to Jake's house. William called his guards back that day because he knew Jake would protect her like his own life. He expected Jessica and Jake to get married. They both look compatible but Jessica would not think to that extent. And Jake doesn't want to risk their relationship, so he didn't bother trying.

The men walk back in with guns. Jake took one from them. He looks at the men and headcounts them. They are fourteen. Some have been killed while protecting William. Jake followed Jessica to Roderwall because she wouldn't pick up his call. Jessica is one stubborn girl but he does know how to calm her down. So, he rode in his car to Roderwall but he met something else.

Men with weird looks and cannibal desires were running around and feeding on human beings. Jake took to his race towards the boss's house. The undead were many here, in fact, they had bitten William while he was busy preventing them from getting to his wife. Jake got there in time and assisted them. Well, Jenny would have been dead by now if Jake had gotten there a minute late.

He took Jenny and the rest of the guard to the weapon room. William didn't follow, he knew his fate in minutes. He only looked at his wife while she was forced away. That was the end! He knew he was never going to see her again.

"The four of you," Jake says and gestures at the four men by his side, "Will follow me out to get to the bus. We will pave the way for you and Madam. The moment we have secured the bus, I will call you," he points at Mathias," And you are to bring Madam to the bus. We will also join you. Understand?"

" Yes, sir," they all chorus. Jake looks at Jenny again. By now, she had stopped sobbing. But she still looks as though she's half-dead to the world. Who would have been? She lost the first person she loved most in her life and she doesn't even know where the second person is, "Let's go"

Jake and four men move to the door. Jake looks back briefly at the rest of the men, "Close the door and prevent the undead from entering the moment we are out"

"Alright sir," Mathias replied and moved forward with ten more soldiers.

Jake opens the door and stretches his neck out. Everywhere seems clear, which looks very strange. Nevertheless, he walks out with others, "Ready to aim to structure everyone," he says, alarming the rest.

One undead walks out in front of them. The men shot it down and continued to walk forward.

Jake sees a white bus afar. It looks spacious and great for traveling. At least people could rest their backs while they drive, "There, that's where we are going," he says but didn't move," Wait," he turns his head slowly just in time for dozens of undead to run out behind them," Move now!" he screams and runs forward with the men. Getting to the bus, Jake starts to shoot the undead with the rest of the men, "One of you should get in and check inside!" He says quickly and continues to shoot them.

If Jessica hadn't told him about her dream, it might have been difficult to kill them. When he got here and met William and others shooting the undead. They kept shooting them everywhere and this undead kept standing and moving nearer. They were not dying because they were already dead. What an irony of life.

Jake cocks his gun and shoots one that was aiming for Jenny on his head. The sound made everyone look at him briefly, "Shoot them in the head or heart," he screamed and everyone had to take turns following his instruction. If they had known, maybe William would still be alive. If Jessica hadn't told Jake, maybe Jake would be dead by now.

"Free sir. The tank is full!" The man screams back.

Jake manages to take his phone from his pocket and stretch it back, "Call Mathias. They should come out now," he says and continues to shoot.

Within minutes, he sights the men walking towards them, with Madam Jenny in the middle of them. Out of the Walton, Jenny is the only one that can't fight or shoot. Jenny used to be a journalist.

"Protect the Madam!"Jake screams aloud, moves two steps forward, and kicks one of the undead. He manages to shoot one beside him before he shoots the one he had kicked earlier. The other men stay behind and continue to shoot the undead.

Jake succeeded in getting to the men. Fortunately for them, none of them have been bitten. Jake stays and continues to kill the undead with three more men while the others keep escorting Jenny to the bus. After Jenny was in, eight more entered and started to shoot at the undead through the window.

"Get in everyone!" Jake screams and starts to walk back with the rest of the men. Before he got to the bus, the four he left behind were in. One was already at the driver's seat, "Get in," he told the rest of the men. That means we're still shooting through the window and that prevented the undead from moving closer to him. When he enters, he shuts the door immediately.

Eew! That was close!

"Drive," he commands and David guns the bus, "We are heading to Saint Michael hospital"

Within minutes, they arrive at the hospital but it wasn't what they expected as there are lots of undead around.

Mathias looks over at Jake, "How do we get past that door?"

Jake sighs, "We have to do it. It's the only way to save the scientist. Without him, we wouldn't be able to make an antivirus. I need seven of you to follow me. The others should stay on the bus. We must get in no matter what," he says authoritatively. He picks up two rifles and keeps them safe in his jean pockets. He then picks an Ak-47 and looks over at the rest of him, "Come out immediately and the others should lock the door"

"Yes sir," they all chorus.

Jake looks over at Jenny again. She has been quiet all this while. A behavior that is unlike her.

Jake opens the door and rushes out. Seven others follow and they start shooting. Hearing the sound, the undead starts running towards the great multitude. Jake unlocks the ring of a bomb with him and throws it at them.

They all dodge the bomb blast and split dozens of the undead into pieces.

"Let's move," Jake orders and rushes forward. Others follow swiftly. They walk into the receptionist and there's another dozen undead waiting for them, "Fire!" He commands and shoots the undead on the head. Everyone complied.

Within minutes, they all lay on the ground, unmoving. They all sigh and move to the elevator. Noise blares out from behind them. They look back at thousands of undead running towards them. Their mouths drop open in shock.

Jake hurries to the elevator and opens it. He enters and looks at the others, "Enter!" He screams and they all run in

The elevator closes slowly, giving the undead the chase to squeeze themselves in. Jude stares, his eyes getting wider in his head.

"Shoot at them!" He tries to kick them back. Anything to buy time before the elevator closes.
